Get mESSYGet Messy is a section designed for your child to engage in sensory play. Sensory play allows learners to make sense of the world around them by taking in as much information as possible from an experience by using as many intake receptors as possible on their bodies. It allows information to absorb better and with more meaning.
ACTIVITY Let’s enjoy some water play! Grab some utensils from the kitchen to explore in water. You could try measuring cups, wooden spoons, plastic containers or a strainer.

ACTIVITY Try creating a batch of summer molding dough. Ask your child if he or she would like to create Big Foot prints in the molding dough. Other family members can participate too. Compare the Big Foot prints and see who has the biggest foot in the house.
Recipe for molding dough:• 2 cups plain flour • 1 cup salt · 1 tablespoon oil • 1 cup cold water • 2 drops food coloring – your choice
Mix all ingredients together.

ACTIVITY Ask your child if he or she would like to create a simple origami paper boat. It’s always important to name your boat. Try to think of some creative names. Write the name along the side of the boat.
Ask your child if he or she thinks his or her boat will float. Try it out in the bathtub, pool, lake or a simple bucket of water.

ACTIVITY Let’s explore with seeds! As you are eating fruits and vegetables during the week, save a couple of seeds from each one. Compare the seeds you collected each day. Ask your child which seeds are the biggest and smallest. Can he or she sort them and put them in order from smallest to largest? Some examples are strawberries, watermelons, avocados, apples, zucchini, squash, oranges, lemons and beans. As an extension activity, try planting the seeds in soil to begin your own garden.

ACTIVITY Let’s try some intentional breathing and stretching exercises. Start simple. Encourage your child to take a deep breath, watching his or her belly go out and in with each inhale and exhale. Try to hold the inhale for three seconds and the exhale for five seconds. While completing the breathing technique, have your child stretch his or her arms high above his or her head and stand on tippy toes to extend the body as tall as possible. Relax and repeat three times.
