Driver Information Center

Your vehicle’s Driver Information Center(DIC) provides vehicle information, vehicle feature personalization and vehicle warning messages. To operatethe DIC, the ignition switch must be inthe Run position.The DIC is controlled through two buttons located on the steering wheel.The DIC messages will be shown onyour instrument panel cluster display.

INFO (Information): Press this button toscroll through the vehicle informationmode displays.

(Reset/Set): Press this button toselect a mode option or to acknowledgea warning message.Press both buttons for one second toenter the Menu mode.

Vehicle InformationPress the INFO (Information) button toscroll through the following vehicle information:• Trip A• Trip B• Fuel Range (until empty)• Average Fuel Economy • Average Speed• Engine Oil Life• Engine Coolant Temperature• Outside Temperature/OdometerPress and hold the (Reset/Set) button to reset the information while it isdisplayed. Vehicle Feature PersonalizationA variety of your vehicle’s features canbe personalized to your preference. Topersonalize features:1. Press and hold both the INFO button

and button for one second toenter the Menu mode.

2. Press the INFO button to scrollthrough the available personalizationfeatures.

3. Press the button to togglebetween the available options foreach feature.

Warnings and MessagesIf a problem is sensed in one of yourvehicle’s systems, a warning or mes-sage will appear in the DIC display. (Seeyour Owner Manual for a complete list ofpossible warnings and messages.)After a warning or message appears,press the button to clear the displayscreen for further use. Remember,pressing the button only makes themessage disappear; it does not resolvethe problem.

If your vehicle is equipped with OnStarand your Check Engine light or anyother warning message appears, youcan press the OnStar button and speakto an OnStar Advisor. In many vehicles,OnStar Advisors can access certaindiagnostic information and tell you howserious the problem is and what youshould do about it.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Your vehicle’s warnings and mes-sages provide critical information thatcan prevent damage to your vehicle.Review your Owner Manual to becomefamiliar with the information displayedand the action required.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Remote Keyless Entry (if equipped)

(Remote Start) (if equipped): If yourvehicle has this feature, it can be usedto start the engine. (See Remote VehicleStart.)

(Lock): Press this button when alldoors are closed to immediately lockthem. The interior lamps will also turnoff. If enabled through the DriverInformation Center (DIC), the parkinglamps will flash once and/or the horn willchirp to indicate locking has occurred.If the Lock button is pressed while anydoor is open and the Delayed Lock fea-ture is enabled, the doors will not lock.Instead, a chime will sound. Once alldoors are closed, the doors will lock. Tocancel this delay, press the Lock buttona second time within five seconds orpress the power door lock switch.

(Unlock): Press this button to unlockthe driver’s door. Press it again withinfive seconds to unlock all remainingdoors. (This is the default DIC setting forVehicle Unlocking.) The interior lampswill illuminate and remain on for 20 seconds or until the ignition is turned on.If enabled through the DIC, the parkinglamps will flash twice and the horn willchirp twice to indicate unlocking hasoccurred.

Note: To arm or disarm the content theft-deterrent alarm system, use the RKEtransmitter. The alarm system will not bearmed or disarmed if the doors are lockedor unlocked with a key, the manual doorlock or the power door lock switch.

(Trunk Release): Press and holdthis button for approximately one secondto unlatch the trunk. The trunk can beunlatched with the transmitter when thevehicle is stationary.The trunk may also be opened usingthe Trunk Release button located in the storage bin on the left side of theinstrument panel.

(Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm):Press and hold this button for approxi-mately one second to locate your vehi-cle. The horn will sound three times andthe parking lamps will flash three times.To sound the panic alarm, press andhold the button for three seconds. Thehorn will sound and the parking lampswill flash for 30 seconds. Press the button again or turn the ignition key toany position to cancel the panic alarm.

Note: The vehicle must be turned offto use the vehicle locator/panic alarm.

Automatic Door Locks (if equipped)

For your safety, all doors will automatical-ly lock when the shift lever is moved outof Park with an automatic transmission, orwhen the vehicle speed is greater than 5mph (8 km/h) with a manual transmission. This feature cannot be disabled; however,you can personalize the unlock featuresby using the Driver Information Center.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Theft-Deterrent System

Your Cobalt is equipped with the PASS-Key® III theft-deterrent system,which prevents vehicle theft if the igni-tion lock cylinder is forced to rotate with-out the correct key. If someone attemptsto start the vehicle without authorizationfrom the PASS-Key® III system, the vehicle’s fuel system or starter will bedisabled.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

OnStar®

Your vehicle may feature the OnStarSafe & Sound Plan or the uplevelOnStar Directions & Connections Plan,with one year of OnStar service from thedate you purchased your new vehicle.OnStar offers a variety of capabilities,such as Remote Door Unlock, AutomaticNotification of Airbag Deployment, andHands-Free Calling. In addition, mostvehicles can get driving directions usingTurn-by-Turn Navigation. Press theOnStar button to ask an OnStar Advisorabout the service plan you have or toupgrade your plan.

Passenger Airbag StatusIndicator (if equipped)

Your vehicle may be equipped with aPassenger Sensing System located inthe front passenger seat for the front airbag. There is also a passenger airbagstatus indicator located on the instru-ment panel center stack.

See Sections 1 and 3 of your Owner Manual.

Note: It is recommended that childrennot be placed in the front passengerseat, even with the Passenger SensingSystem. All children should be securedin a rear seat, including an infant ridingin a rear-facing infant seat, a child ridingin a forward-facing child seat or an olderchild riding in a booster seat.

Child Restraints (LATCH)

Your vehicle is equipped with LATCHanchors, and may have top tethers foruse with a LATCH-compatible childrestraint. If your child restraint is notcompatible with the LATCH system, you may still use it by installing the childrestraint with the safety belt system.Choose a child restraint that is appropriate for the child’s age and size(weight and height).See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Emergency Trunk Release

The trunk lid can beopened from insidethe trunk by pulling onthe emergency trunkrelease handle located on the centerof the trunk.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Shoulder Belt Height Adjustment (Sedan only)

To move the shoulder belt heightadjuster down, push the release button(A) down using your thumb or finger andslide the adjuster to the desired position.To move the adjuster up, push up on theD-ring (B) from the bottom and slide theadjuster to the desired position.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Adjustable Front Head Restraints

The head restraints on the front seatsare adjustable. Press the button on theside of the post to adjust the headrestraint. Slide the head restraint up or down.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Seat Adjustments

Forward or Rearward AdjusterTo move the front seats forward or rearward, lift and hold the bar under thefront of each seat (A) and manually slidethe seat. Release the bar to lock theseat in place. Try to move the seat toensure it is locked in place.Height AdjusterTo raise the driver’s seat, lift and releasethe front lever (B) on the left side of theseat. Each time you raise the lever, theseat will move up. Repeat until the seatis at the desired height.To lower the driver’s seat, push downand release the lever. Repeat until theseat is at the desired height. ReclinerTo recline the front seats, lift the reclinelever (C) to release the seatback; thenmove the seatback to where you want it.Release the lever to lock the seatback inplace. Press rearward on the seatbackto ensure it is locked in place.Lumbar Adjuster (if equipped)To adjust the driver’s seat lumbar support, use the knob located on thefront-right side of the driver’s seat cushion. Turn the knob until the desiredlumbar support is reached.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Tilt Steering Wheel

To adjust the steering wheel:1. Pull down the lever located on the left

side of the steering column. 2. Adjust the wheel to a comfortable

position. The wheel can be moved upor down.

3. Push the lever all the way up to lockthe wheel in place.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Easy Entry Seat (Coupe only)

The easy entry seat makes it easier toenter or exit the rear seat. To use thisfeature, push down the easy entry seatlever, located on the lower rear-outboardside of the front seatback, to release theseatback and move the seat forward.After entering or exiting the rear seat,move the seat and seatback rearwarduntil they lock in place.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Climate Controls

The climate control system includes thefollowing features:

(Fan): Turn the fan knob (A) toincrease or decrease fan speed.

(Off): Turn the fan knob to the Offposition to turn the system off. Only theheated seats and the rear defogger willfunction when the fan knob is off.Temperature: Turn the temperatureknob (B) to raise or lower the tempera-ture setting.

(Air Conditioning): Press this button to turn the air conditioningsystem on or off.

(Recirculation): Press this buttonto recirculate inside air throughout thevehicle. This mode keeps outside airfrom entering the vehicle.Airflow ModesTurn the airflow control knob (C) to oneof the following modes to change thedirection of the airflow:

(Vent): This mode directs air to theinstrument panel outlets.

(Bi-Level): This mode directs air tothe instrument panel outlets and flooroutlets.

(Floor): This mode directs most ofthe air to the floor outlets and some air tothe side window outlets and windshield.

Preventing Window Fogging

To keep the vehicle glass fog-free, turnthe airflow control knob to the Defog ( ) mode or the Defrost ( ) mode.Recirculation will not function in thesemodes, allowing outside air into thevehicle to help reduce moisture.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Heated Seats (if equipped)

There is one heated seat control buttonfor each front seat located on the instrument panel center stack belowthe audio system.

I (Low): Press the switch to this position to turn the system on low.

II (High): Press the switch to this position to turn the system on high.Press the button again to the centerposition to turn off the heated seat.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

(Defog): This mode directs air to thewindshield, side window outlets and flooroutlets. Recirculation will not function inthis mode.

(Defrost): This mode directs mostof the air to the windshield and some airto the side window outlets. Recirculationwill not function in this mode.

(Rear Window Defogger): Pressthis button to activate the rear windowdefogger. The defogger will shut offautomatically after about 20 minutes.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

ENTERTAINMENT

Audio System Features

While most of the features on your radiowill look familiar, following are some thatmay be new:

(Power/Volume): Press this knob toturn the system on or off. Turn the knobto adjust the volume.

(Information): Press this button totoggle the radio display between stationfrequency and time. If equipped, it willalso display additional text informationrelated to the current FM-RDS or XMstation, or MP3 song.

(Tune): Turn this knob to select radiostations or, when a CD is playing, toselect a track or MP3 file. Press the knob to display the tonecontrol (bass/treble) or speaker control(balance/fade) setting. Press the push-button under the desired label on thedisplay. Turn the knob to adjust thesetting.

BAND: Press this button to switch toAM, FM, or XM (if equipped). With aCD loaded or a portable audio playerconnected, press this button to switch toradio operation.

(Seek/Scan): Press the right orleft arrow button to go to the next orprevious radio station or, when a CD isplaying, to the next track or MP3 file,or to the start of the current track orMP3 file.To enter the scan mode, press and holdeither arrow button for a few seconds(a beep will sound). Radio stations will bescanned. Press either arrow button againto stop scanning.

(Reverse): Press and hold this button to reverse playback quickly withina track or MP3 file.

(Forward): Press and hold this buttonto advance playback quickly within atrack or MP3 file.CD/AUX: Press this button to play a CDinstead of the radio. Press again and thesystem will automatically search for aportable audio player connected to theauxiliary input jack.EQ (Equalization): Press this button toselect preset equalization settings.CAT (Category) (if equipped): Pressthis button to find XM stations within adesired category.

Setting Favorite StationsBefore setting your favorite stations,shift the vehicle into Park (automatictransmission) or into Neutral and set theparking brake (manual transmission).

Press the FAV (Favorite) button to gothrough up to six pages of any combi-nation (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped) offavorite radio stations. On each page, upto six stations are available by using thesix pushbuttons below the radio stationfrequency labels on the radio display.To set the number of favorite stationpages:1. Press the MENU button to display the

radio setup menu.2. Press the pushbutton located below

the FAV 1–6 label on the radio display.

3. Select the desired number of favoritestation pages.

4. Press the FAV button. You may nowbegin storing your favorite stations forthe chosen number of pages.

Note: Engaging in extended searchingfor specific audio stations or songs byusing buttons and knobs — or givingextended attention to entertainment tasks— can lead you to look away from theroad frequently or for prolonged periods,which may cause you to miss seeingthings on the road that you need to see.Avoid engaging in extended searching forspecific items while driving.

To store favorite stations:1. Tune in the desired radio station.2. Press the FAV button to display the

page where the station is to bestored.

3. Press and hold one of the six push-buttons until a beep sounds to storethe station.

4. Repeat the steps for each pushbuttonon each page.

Setting the Speed CompensatedVolumeWith Speed Compensated Volume, theradio automatically adjusts the volumeto compensate for road noise as vehiclespeed changes.To set Speed Compensated Volume:1. Adjust the radio volume to the

desired level.2. Press the MENU button to display the

radio setup menu.3. Press the pushbutton below the auto

volume label on the radio display.4. Press the pushbutton under the

desired setting label (Off, Low,Medium or High).

5. The compensation will be setonce the display times out.

Setting the TimeTo set the time:1. Turn on the radio.2. Press the (Clock) button. Or,

if equipped, press the MENU buttonuntil the clock option is displayed;and then press the pushbuttonlocated under the clock option label.The HR, MIN, MM, DD, YYYY labelswill appear on the display.

3. Press the pushbutton under any ofthe labels to be changed.

4. Press the pushbutton again or theFWD button to increase the numbers.Press the REV button to decreasethe numbers. Rotating the (Tune)knob also will increase or decreasethe numbers of the selected label.

5. Press the Clock or MENU buttonagain to set the currently displayedtime and date.

Portable Audio PlayerA portable audio player (iPod®, Palm®,MP3 player or other portable-type player) can be connected to theauxiliary input jack located on theradio. When connected, the systemautomatically begins playing audiofrom the portable player over thevehicle speakers. Starting The VehicleTo remote-start the vehicle:1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehi-

cle. (Remote Vehicle Start transmitterrange is within approximately 200 feetof the vehicle.)

2. Press and release the (Lock)button on the transmitter.

3. Immediately press and hold the (Remote Vehicle Start) button forabout four seconds. When the vehiclestarts, the parking lamps will light andremain on while the engine is run-ning. The engine will continue runningfor 10 minutes.

4. Repeat these steps for a 10-minutetime extension. Only two consecutiveremote starts are allowed.

When you enter the vehicle after aremote start, the key must be inserted inthe ignition and turned to the On posi-tion before driving.

Canceling a Remote Start To turn off the engine instead of drivingafter a remote start:• Press and hold the button until the

parking lamps turn off.• Press the Hazard Warning Flashers

button inside the vehicle. Press thebutton again to turn off the flashers.

• Turn the key in the ignition switch onand then off.

Note: The Remote Vehicle Start featurewill not operate if the key is in the igni-tion, the hood is open, or the CheckEngine light is illuminated.

Automatic Headlamp SystemYour Cobalt is equipped with anAutomatic Headlamp System, whichturns on the headlamps and other exte-rior lamps at night or when necessary.The exterior lamps also can be operatedmanually.The Automatic Headlamp System’s lightsensor is located on top of the instru-ment panel. To ensure proper systemoperation, avoid placing any objects onor near the sensor.Exterior Lamp Control SwitchThe exterior lamp control switch, used to manually operate the exterior lamps,is located on the lever to the left of thesteering column. The switch can berotated to the following positions:AUTO (Automatic Headlamp System):Automatically turns on Daytime RunningLamps in the daytime, and headlamps,parking lamps and taillamps at night.

(Off/On): When operating in theAUTO position, a momentary turn of thelamp control switch to this position willturn off the Automatic Headlamp Systemand all of the exterior lights. The DriverInformation Center will display an AUTOLIGHTS OFF message.

To activate the Automatic HeadlampSystem, turn the switch to this positionagain. An AUTO LIGHTS ON messagewill be displayed. The AutomaticHeadlamp System is always turned onwhen the vehicle is started.

(Parking Lamps): Turns on park-ing lamps and taillamps only.

(Headlamps): Turns on the head-lamps, parking lamps and taillamps.

Interior Lamps

Dome LampThe domelamp switch(if equipped),located on thedome lamp,can be set toone of the following positions:

(Off): This position turns off the lampat all times, even when a door is open.

(Door): This position enables thelamp to turn on when a door is open.

(On): This position turns on thelamp.Instrument Panel BrightnessTo adjust the instrument panel lamps,turn the (Instrument PanelBrightness) knob on the left side of theinstrument panel.Map Lights (if equipped)The map light switches are locatedunder the rearview mirror.

Cruise Control (if equipped)

The following cruise control buttons arelocated on the steering wheel:

(On/Off): Press this button to turnthe cruise control system on or off. SET– (Set): Press this button to set aspeed, or to decrease the speed if thesystem is set. When the cruise control isset, the CRUISE ENGAGED messagewill appear on the DIC.RES+ (Resume): Press this button toresume a set speed, or to increase thespeed if the system is set.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Retained Accessory Power

Sunroof (if equipped)

The control switch for the sunroof islocated on the headliner between thesun visors. It will operate only while theignition is on.

Split-Folding Rear Seatbacks

The 60/40 split-folding rear seatbackscan be lowered to increase the cargoarea.To fold the seatback(s):1. Open the trunk and pull one or both

of the small handles located in thecenter of the trunk.

2. Push the seatback forward from thetrunk area or lower the seatback frominside the vehicle.

To raise either seatback:1. Rotate the seatback up and rearward

until you hear a click.2. Push and pull on the seatback to be

sure it is locked into place.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Windshield Wipers

The following windshield wiper controlsare located on the lever on the right sideof the steering column:

(Mist): Move the lever down to thisposition to turn on the wipers for onewipe.

(Off): Move the lever to this positionto turn off the wipers.

(Intermittent): Move the lever up tothis position for a delay between wipes.Rotate the adjustment band to adjustthe delay. The wipers activate moreoften as the band is rotated upward.

(Low Speed): Move the lever upto this position for steady, low-speedwipes.

(High Speed): Move the lever upto this position for rapid, high-speedwipes.

(Washer): Push the button on theend of the lever to spray washer fluid onthe windshield.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Cupholders

Cupholders are conveniently located atthe front and rear of the center console.The front cupholders have a rubber linerthat can be removed for cleaning or toaccommodate larger cup sizes.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Parking Brake

The parking brake lever is locatedbetween the driver’s and front passen-ger’s seats. If your vehicle is equippedwith the folding armrest between theseats, it is necessary to lift the armrestto set the parking brake.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Vent Position: Open the sunshademanually. Press the rear part of theswitch.Open Position: Open the sunshademanually. Press and hold the rear part ofthe switch until the sunroof opens to thedesired position.Closed Position: Press and hold thefront part of the switch until the sunroofcloses. Close the sunshade manually.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Electric Power Steering

The speed-sensitive electric powersteering system offers variable-effortsteering assistance based on vehiclespeed, providing more assistance atlower speeds and less assistance athigher speeds.If you turn the steering wheel in eitherdirection several times until it stops,or hold the steering wheel in thestopped position for an extended time,you may notice a reduced amount ofpower steering assistance. The normalamount of power steering assistanceshould return shortly after a few typicalsteering movements.See Section 4 of your Owner Manual.

PERFORMANCE & MAINTENANCE

Traction Control (if equipped)

The traction control system activatesevery time you start your vehicle. Whenone or more of the drive wheels begin tospin from traction loss, the traction con-trol system will illuminate a light on theinstrument panel cluster, reduce enginepower and apply the front brakes untiltraction is regained. If your vehiclebecomes stuck and rocking the vehicleis required, the system should beturned off.To deactivate the traction control system, press the (Traction Control)button on the instrument panel.See Section 4 of your Owner Manual.

Tire Pressure Monitor

The Tire Pressure Monitor alerts youwhen a significant reduction in pressureoccurs in one or more of your vehicle’stires by illuminating the (Low TirePressure) warning light on the instru-ment panel cluster. The low tire pressurewarning light will remain on until youcorrect the tire pressure.A CHECK TIRE PRESSURE messagemay also appear on the DriverInformation Center (DIC) (if equipped). Correcting the Tire PressureWhen the low tire pressure warning lightilluminates, you must inflate the tire tothe proper tire pressure (just as youmust refuel the vehicle when the lowfuel warning light illuminates). The Tireand Loading Information label shows thecorrect tire pressure for the tires whenthey’re cold. “Cold” means your vehiclehas been sitting for at least three hoursor driven no more than one mile.

Battery Location

The battery is located in the spare tirewell, under the load floor in the trunk.Should it be necessary to jump-start yourvehicle, use the remote positive terminalin the engine compartment. The nega-tive cable can be connected to a heavy,unpainted metal part of the vehicle.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Parking Your Vehicle

Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic shift lock release system.Automatic TransmissionWhen parking your vehicle, the systemprevents the ignition key from beingremoved unless the shift lever is in Parkwith the shift lever button fully released.When shifting into Park, press down thebrake pedal. Then move the shift leverinto Park by pressing the button on theshift lever and pushing the lever all theway forward. With the vehicle in Park,turn the ignition key to Lock and removethe key.Your vehicle is equipped with an electricBTSI (Brake Transmission ShiftInterlock). The shift lever cannot bemoved out of Park position without firstpressing the brake. To shift out of Park,press down the brake pedal before shifting. Then press the button on theshift lever and move the lever to thedesired gear position. The shift lever willnot move from the Park position if thebutton is pressed before the brake. Theshift lever also will not shift out of Parkif the ignition is in the Lock position.Manual TransmissionTo park your vehicle, press down theclutch pedal. Then move the shift leverinto Reverse and apply the parkingbrake. Turn the ignition key to Lock andremove the key.To start your vehicle, hold down theclutch pedal and shift into Neutral. Yourvehicle will not start if the clutch pedal isnot all the way down.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Securing the Fuel Cap

If the Check Gas Cap message is dis-played on the Driver Information Centerwhen the engine is running, check thatyour fuel cap is securely fastened. If thecap is not secure, turn it clockwise untila clicking sound is heard, indicating thatit is properly installed.The Check Gas Cap message will turnoff after a few driving trips with the capproperly installed.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

You can temporarily clear the DIC mes-sage by acknowledging it with your DICcontrols. However, at the next vehiclestart-up, the DIC message will reappear ifthe tire pressure has not been corrected.During cooler conditions, the low tirepressure warning light may appearwhen the vehicle is first started and thenturn off as you start to drive. This couldbe an early indicator that your tire pres-sures are getting low and the tires needto be inflated to the proper pressure.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Using non-GM-approved liquidsealants can damage the tire valvesand tire pressure monitor sensors inyour tires. This damage would not becovered by warranty.

Note: The Tire Pressure Monitor canalert you about low tire pressure, but itdoesn’t replace normal monthly tiremaintenance.

Resetting the Oil Life System

The Oil Life System calculates engine oillife based on vehicle use and displaysCHANGE OIL SOON in the DriverInformation Center (DIC) when it’snecessary to change your oil and filter.The Oil Life System should be reset to100% only following an oil change.To reset the Oil Life System:1. Press the INFO (Information) button

until the DIC displays OIL LIFERESET.

2. Press and hold the (Reset/Set)button for at least one second.

3. An ACKNOWLEDGED message willdisplay when the system resets.

Tire Inflator Kit

Your vehicle may be equipped with a tiresealant and inflator kit instead of a jackand spare tire. The inflator kit uses aliquid tire sealant to temporarily seal upto a 1/4-inch puncture in the tread areaof the tire. After using the inflator kit,it is recommended to take the tire toan authorized dealer for inspection andrepair as soon as possible but at leastwithin 100 miles of driving. The tiresealant cannot seal and inflate sidewalldamage, punctures larger than 1/4 inch,or a tire that has unseated from thewheel. The sealant can only be usedone time on one tire before its expirationdate.

The inflator kit is located in the trunk.Refer to the inflator kit instructions forcomplete operating information.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.
