Proclamation of 1763

-King George III created a border along the Appalachian Mountain Range to separate Colonists and Native Americans.

-The border was to stop colonists from migrating West and improve Native American relations.

-Britain supplied 10,000 troops to North America to enforce the Proclamation.

-Colonists were angry because they believed they had a right to migrate West.

What does migration mean?

A group of people moving from one place to another.

The British needed the money back or else they will face an economic breakdown that would destroy their government.

First 3 British Acts

The Quartering Act (1763)- All Colonists must quarter (house) British soldiers and feed them.

The Sugar Act (1764)- Was the first tax on an import to North America.

The Stamp Act (1765)- required that all colonists buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products and activities.

The Stamps had to be placed on newspapers, wills, licenses, insurance policies, land titles, contracts and other documents.

-Tea was grown India by the East India Company then shipped to the Colonists.

-Even though the price was cheap, colonists were angry because the East India Company had a monopoly over tea.
