GETTING PARENTS STARTED WITH TEAMS This presentation is intended to help parents learn how to navigate Microsoft Teams. As Teams is the digital platform utilized by Onslow County Schools, this will provide parents the opportunity to see the actions students are being asked to perform for their classes. An interactive module is available for student use and you are encouraged to move it with your students as needed.

TEAMSThis presentation is intended to help parents learn how to navigate Microsoft Teams. As Teams is the digital platform utilized by Onslow County Schools, this will provide parents

the opportunity to see the actions students are being asked to perform for their classes.

An interactive module is available for student use and you are encouraged to move it with your students as needed.

Signing into Teams

To access Teams, students will begin by opening Office 365:

• Using the desktop shortcut

• Or using the direct link https://portal.office.com• In Google Chrome

• Or in Microsoft Edge

Signing into TeamsSign into the Microsoft Office Homepage

• Student’s username is their [email protected]

• Student’s password is their computer password

From your student’s Microsoft Office 365 Homepage, Teams can be accessed by clicking the purple and white Teams Tile.

Managing Visibility

If your student has old Teams (like last year's classes), hide them from view so that the focus can be on the Teams needed this year:

• Click the 3 dots by a Team

• Click Hide

Similarly, if your student knows they are in a team but cannot see it, they may need to check the Hidden Teams Section.

Navigating Your Student's Class Team

The differentChannelsin a Team can be found on the left, under the Team Name.

A Teams Announcementis identified by a colored and/or illustrated banner. This is typically the sign of an important message from your student’s teacher.

Sometimes a Teams Announcementor post is too long to display the entire message. When you see the "See more" option, click it to read the entire message.

Posting in the Team

To reply to this teacher's announcement your student will click the word "Reply" at the bottom of the announcement.

To type a new comment or question in this Team, your student will click where it says "Start a new conversation."

To specifically see a new Assignment, your student can click to it directly from the Posts Tab.

To see all of your student’s Assignmentsfor this particular class, your student will click the Assignments Tab near the top center.

To see all of your student’s Assignmentsfor every class, your student will click the Assignments Icon on the far left menu.

The assignment's Due Date can be found right under the assignment's title.

The assignment's Instructionscan be found underneath the title and due date.

The assignment's Reference Resources can be found under the "Reference materials" heading. This is a link or file your student’s teacher wants him/her to view.

The assignment's WorkResource can be found under the heading "My work". This is the file your student’s teacher wants him/her to work on.

Navigating Your Student's AssignmentsIf your student has been given a document to work on, click the 3 dots and click Open in Teams, Open in Word or Open in Word Online. This will allow for easy editing and will auto-save the work. Choosing to Download the file, will break the sync with Teams and will take extra steps to save and upload the file. Downloading is not recommended.

Navigating Your Student's Assignments

If your student does need to add their own files to an assignment he/she will need to click "Add work" to upload a file or paste a link to a OneDrive file.

When your student is ready to submit the assignment click the Turn inbutton in the top right corner.

Your student can find specific Files for this Team by clicking the Files Tab at the top.

Your student can find Files for all Teams by clicking the Files Icon on the left handmenu.

Read-only documents your student’s teacher shares, like the class syllabus are likely to be found in the Class Materials folder of the Files Section.

If your student’s teacher asks your student to put a file in the Files Section, he/she will click Upload, click File, and select which file needs to be added.

Your student will find the OneNote Class Notebook for this Team in the Class Notebook Tab at the top.

Teams Calls for Live Class & Office Hours

To join the Live Call (or Office Hours) for this class, your student will click "Join" in the appropriate Teams channel.

To turn the camera on and off click the video icon at the bottom of the call screen.

To share the screen click the box and arrow share icon at the bottom of the call screen.

If your student needs to raise their hand click the hand icon at the bottom of the call screen.

To access the chatduring the call click the chat icon at the bottom of the call screen.

Things students post in the chat should be class-related.

When it is time to hang upat the end of class click the red hang up icon at the bottom of the call screen.
