calendar! Here, you will find activities designed for your young learner over the next four weeks. This calendar will focus on Summer Fun with Fitness! Try all of the activities or pick those that work best for your family.

● With your child, talk about ways to stay healthy and safe while at home and in public. Keep the conversation positive. Focus on healthy habits, like handwashing, covering coughs with the elbow, or the importance of personal space.
Morning Connection: I am Healthy and Safe
MATERIALS: Large Numeral 7● Use the large 7 or write your own.● Show the seven. Say, This is the number
7. Across, slant down. Have your child say the number.
● Ask your child, What number is this? If your child has trouble, say, This is 7. Say, 7.
● See how many 7’s you can find together throughout the day!
● Don’t worry if your child needs more time to learn 7.

MATERIALS: paper, crayons, optional - Staying Healthy● With your child, talk about ways to stay healthy,
like hand washing, drinking plenty of water, rest, and exercise.
● Have your child independently write and draw about staying healthy.
● Later, ask, How do you stay healthy? What is your favorite way to exercise?
Independent Learning:Staying Healthy
● Practice stomping syllables. Say, Syllables are the beats in words. Let’s stomp the syllables in the word “ball”. Say the word and stomp once. There is one syllable in ball.
● Stomp the syllables in other words like base-ball, sports, bas-ket-ball, gym-nas-tics.
MATERIALS: Our Trip to the Farmers’ Market book● Together, read Our Trip to the Farmers’ Market.● After reading, compare and contrast the farmers’ market to the grocery store.
Ask, How is the farmers’ market the same as our grocery store? How are they different?

MATERIALS Emergencies Sheet● With your child, talk about emergencies. Say, An
emergency is when something happens, and we have to take care of it right away.
● Together, brainstorm some emergencies that might occur during the day. Come up with a plan of what your child should do in case of an emergency. What will you do if there is a fire? What if someone is hurt?

MATERIALS: paper, glue or tape, scissors● Cut the paper into strips. Create one loop using a
paper strip and tape.● Show your child your one loop. Say, Let’s make
more loops to create a chain. Together, make loops.
● Before you add a loop, count how many are in the chain. Add to the chain and count again.
● Repeat until your chain reaches at least 10 loops.
Math Talk: Number Chains
MATERIALS: paper, pencil, crayons, Numeral 7● Have your child independently trace the 7’s. Use the
provided sheets or make your own!● Your child can color the 7 and the balls.● Later, ask, What number is this? Can you show me
how to write a 7?

● Say, Syllables are the beats in words. Let’s clap and count the syllables in the word “run.” Say the word and clap once. Ask, How many syllables are in the word run?
● Clap and count the syllables in other words like goal, soc-cer, ex-er-cise.
MATERIALS: paper, crayons, optional - sidewalk chalk● With your child, draw an outline of the human body. You can also go outside and trace
your child using chalk.● Point to your eyes and ask, What part of the body is this? Help your child draw and
label the eyes on the body outline. Repeat for nose, ears, mouth, fingers, and toes.

Morning Connection: Emergencies
● Together, review the emergency plan you created yesterday. You might have your child practice calling a family member, saying their name and address, or thinking of other safe places near your home.
● Young children can be very curious! This can also be a time to talk about rules in your home that keep your child safe. Examples might include, not touching things on the stovetop even if doesn’t appear hot, not opening the door without a grown-up, or other things you feel will keep your child safe this summer!
MATERIALS: small items, like buttons, optional - 10 Frame
● Print or draw the image.● Place 7 items on the 10 Frame with one item
per box. Point to each item as you count. Then, have your child point and count the items.
● Count different amounts of items 1-10.

MATERIALS: paper, crayons, optional - My Bedtime● Have your child independently write and draw about
their bedtime routine.● Later, ask, What do you do to get ready for bedtime?

importance of eating foods, like fruits and vegetables.● Ask, What is your favorite fruit? What is your favorite vegetable?

MATERIALS: Stranger Safety● Together, talk about strangers. Provide examples of
people who are strangers and those who are not.● Review what your child should do if a stranger talks to
them and they feel uncomfortable. Consider: ○ Say, No!○ Run away.○ Yell loudly.○ Tell a trusted adult. A doctor is picture but you
may find it helpful to talk about other adults like a neighbor or family member.

MATERIALS: paper plate, crayons or other small items ● Together, practice creating sets. Say, I will say a number. You put the set,
or group of things, on the plate. ● Put three crayons on the paper plate. Here is a set of three! Let’s count
them. 1, 2, 3!● Your turn! Make a set of five! ● Have your child make sets up to eight and count the objects together.

MATERIALS: crayons, Stranger Safety● Print or draw the images.● Have your child independently color the pictures.● Later, cut out the cards and have your child put them in order. Your
child can explain what to do if approached by a stranger to another family member.

● Print or draw the images.● With your child, talk about the five food groups.● Together, look through grocery store flyers,
magazines, etc. for pictures of food.● Then, cut out the food pictures and sort them into
the five food groups. Ask, Where does the __(food)__go? Is it a vegetable or protein?

● With your child, talk about summer safety, like bike or pedestrian safety.
● As a family, create a list of safety expectations, like holding an adult's hand when crossing the street or wearing a helmet while riding a bike.
● With the family, review the expectations as needed.

MATERIALS: paper plate, crayons or other small items ● Together, practice creating sets. Say, I will say a number. You put
the set, or group of things, on the plate. ● Put six crayons on the paper plate. Here is a set of six! Let’s
count them. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!● Your turn! Make a set of eight! ● Have your child make sets up to ten and count the objects
together.
Math Talk: Sets Practice
MATERIALS: paper, crayons● With your child, talk about why it’s important to stay safe and ways to stay safe. You could
talk about things like not talking to strangers, pedestrian safety, or wearing sunscreen.● Have your child independently write and draw safety posters. ● Later, ask, What safety rule did you write and draw about? What would you tell others
about being safe?

MATERIALS: big and small items from around the home ● Show your child the items. Talk about what it means to be big and small.● Together, look at an object and describe it as big or small. Encourage your child to say, The
__(item)__ looks __(big/small)__.

MATERIALS: Our Trip to the Farmers’ Market book, optional - T-chart● Together, read Our Trip to the Farmers’ Market.● After reading, make a list of items at the farmers’ market that you
can eat and a list of things you cannot. Flip through the book to help your child remember the items at the market.
