WHAT’S THIS ABOUT??

It’s official… Windows 10 was released 29th July which has given our technicians more than enough time to test, fix and maintain a variety of laptops/desktops running the new operating system.

Read on to find out how to get it some of it’s new features!

TOP TIPS FOR SECURING YOUR IT INFRASTRUCTURE:How do I get Windows 10?• Microsoft are providing Windows 10 as a free upgrade for all

Windows 7 & Windows 8 users as long as they meet the needed hardware specifications, are running a genuine licensed version of Windows and that all Windows updates installed and up to date. Once done you should see a small gear icon in the bottom right of your screen which will allow you to reserve your copy and eventually upgrade to Windows 10.

• Done all of the above but still not seeing the icon? It may be that you don’t have enough free hard drive space, or your computer is joined a domain. If you’re attempting to upgrade on a work computer the likelihood is that is part of a domain and you will not be able to upgrade. Please consult your own internal IT department if that is the case.

New Features: New & Improved Start MenuIncorporating the tile style from Windows 8

the new Windows 10 start menu is now suitable for both standard and touch enabled users.

Microsoft has also thrown some nice customisation tools into the mix! You now have the ability to resize the start menu, making it as big or small as you want, couple that with the Windows 8 style ‘pinned’ tiles and you can really make it your own. However if you really did enjoy using the windows 8 tile menu, you can enable it within settings (Settings – Personalisation – Start – Use Start full screen).

New Features: Tablet Mode & Super Search• Microsoft is determined to make Windows 10 suitable for all devices, and one

feature that has risen from this is the tablet mode.

• This makes your device act like a tablet: maximising icons, removing the task bar and only showing necessary notifications - not to mention the full screen tile menu.

• The all new search tool within the start menu can be used for a wide range of searching activities. Simply open the start menu (shortcut - press the windows key) and start typing what you’re looking for. You will see a list of different items that match your search not only from your PC, but also directly from the web making it extremely easy to navigate to your favourite website.

to spend extra time opening the new Windows 10 calculator

New Features: Action Centre

If you have ever used a smartphone you’ll be used to a section showing all current notifications ranging from unread text messages to software updates.

Microsoft has incorporated this aspect into Windows 10, replacing Charms from Windows 8 to the sleek Action Centre. You are able to customise what notifications will be shown and you also have various setting buttons placed at the bottom for quick access.
