Student Council’s
3K Run / Walk Event
Thursday, May 9th
THANK YOU!
We would like to thank the following donors for their
generosity in supporting our annual 3K
event: Bayer’s Plumbing, Cook Orthodontics, Dr.
Gill, Dr. Hazelrigg, Just for Kids Dentistry, Myo-
fascial Therapy & Wellness, Talley Eye Institute,
the Winsett family, Los Bravos, Dr. Enlow, Mr.
Welch's homeroom, and Mrs. Short's homeroom
and an anonymous donor.
This event will take place on May 9, but it cannot take
place without the support of our families and communi-
ty. In addition, we also are in need of donations for water,
fruit pops, door prizes, and awards. Please help us
with these! We greatly appreciate donations of any kind! If
you would be willing to offer any assistance, please con-
tact Mrs. Fussner ([email protected]) or Ms.
Killebrew ([email protected]).
I got my Creed Card in my 2nd period Language Arts
class. I received the card because I did well on a
test. I gave my card to a member of the other team
who is my friend. He was not doing well in Lan-
guage Arts, so I gave it to him to cheer him up a bit.
He chose to sit at the CREED table which is a nice
table. There are only four seats at the CREED table,
so my friend had to choose who sat with him.

CNMS 6th Grade Field Trip to USI
Students had the rare opportunity to bring history to life after reading excerpts from It Worked for Me: In
Life and Leadership by Colin Powell and Colin Powell: Military Leader by Warren Brown. On Thursday,
April 4, 2019, fifty CNMS 6th graders and ten chaperones went to USI to hear General Colin Pow-
ell. General Powell answered questions presented by USI President, Dr. Ronald S. Rochon. The discus-
sion covered topics about compromise and working together; the importance of education and choosing a
job that you love; and Powell’s experiences as Secretary of State during the George W. Bush Administra-
tion. Students learned that true success cannot happen without failures. Adults and students walked
away inspired to find a sense of purpose and be ready to give what is needed.
Some memorable moments:
Anthony Copanski: General Powell stated, “We can’t afford to lose a child because of what will hap-
pen in our future.” Every child has a place in our future.
Ash Lavu recalled his deep love for his family as his reason for never running for President of the
United States.
Evangelene McCrary agreed that “all immigrants are not criminals”.
Evan Shagryn learned the reasons that Russia needs to be our friend.
Kaleb Dilley remembered that Colin Powell ’s mediocre performance in school did not mean failure in
life.
Colin Powell’s importance in our history does not mean that he is a human being who is more important
than others. Instead General Powell stated, “I am second. We all need to be aware of others and their
needs. When we all seek to help others first, our world will be a better place.”
