A Report on International Yoga Day
21st June, 2020
Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It reflects the union of individual
consciousness with that of universal consciousness, a perfect harmony between mind &
body, man & nature; a holistic approach to health & well-being. Yoga reflects harmony and
peace for humanity, which is also the essence of Yoga.
For the first time since June 21, 2015, Yoga Day is being celebrated digitally. This
year's theme is 'Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family'. On December 11, 2014, the United
Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga', months after
PM Modi had proposed the idea.
International Yoga Day was celebrated virtually by the students with great enthusiasm.
Students demonstrated various "Asanas." Warm up exercises were taken and all the students
performed sitting and standing Asanas. Our Principal encouraged students to practice regular
yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji
The pioneer of Sidhwan Institutions, Bhai Narain Singh Ji was
born and brought up at Village Sidhwan Khurd of Ludhiana. He
was a great philanthropist, visionary and an undaunted social
reformer. He was a down to Earth man, a progressive farmer and
an expert in the Ayurvedic system of medicine who treated people
in his spare time. In the tragic death of his only son, instead of
going into remorse he resolved to transcend his personal tragedy
and to dedicate his whole life to the noble cause of dispelling the
darkness of ignorance and illiteracy amongst the girls of his region. He
took up the challenge of female education at a time when sending girls to school was a taboo,
His daughter Padamshree Bibi Harparkash Kaur was among the four students of the school
started by him in 1909 under a "Peepal tree" at his place. As people of surrounding areas
were encouraged by his effort, the school was upgraded as a High school. At the fag end of
his life Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji constituted Sri Guru HarGobind Ujagar Hari Trust
and bequeathed his entire property to this Trust Later on his daughter became a torch bearer
to carry forward his ideals and vision. By dint of her hard work she founded Khalsa College
for Women in 1950. She was awarded "Padamshree" for her contribution to Women
Education. At present Sri Guru HarGobind Ujagar Hari Trust is successfully running five
educational institutions of excellence. Bhai Sahib was honoured by British Government with
Khitab of 'Sardar Sahib.'
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The Planet Earth is the only home and environment we have where we can live at present. It
provides us with air (Oxygen), water, food, fiber, and energy resources. It provides us with
self-sustained environment that help us to clear normal pollution. Though Earth is a living
entity, yet it demands our care to keep itself worth living. During the last two centuries man's
over indulgence has created environmental pollution and this degradation is now threatening
man's own existence. Some of the current environmental issues require urgent attention.
Important environmental issues facing Mother Earth are population explosion, climate
change, loss of biodiversity, depletion of natural resources, deforestation, ozone layer
depletion, pollution, oceans acidification, over fishing and phosphorus and nitrogen cycle etc.
These environmental problems are undisputedly endangering our current existence on Earth.
All over the world, people are facing number of unforeseen environmental problems. Our
planet, in fact, is poised the brink of a severe environmental crisis. These problems make
humanity vulnerable to present and future disaster. Humanity is in a state of planetary
emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us. Unless we address these,
we may be heading to our extinction.
20
Despite the damage man has caused to the environment, most of it is reversible. This is
heartening. We can restore habitats and return species to them. Clean rivers, replenish the
topsoil and replant forests. Above all we can formulate healthy habits, which can go a long
way in improving the environment. Most of these problems are global and can be best
addressed globally. International Mother Earth Day is celebrated on 22nd April every year
since 1970 to highlight environmental Issues.
At the individual level attitudes and perceptions regarding conservation of environment should
change. Everyone needs to be involved in this effort. We should make a solemn promise to our
Mother Earth to nurture and preserve it.
Considering the importance and urgency of the attention needed SGHG Ujagar Hari Trust
decided to provide a forum to the students by organizing an annual seminar in the memory
of Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji, founder of the Trust, a philanthropist and visionary
