INTRODUCTION
• Gi - Fi or Gigabit Wireless is the world’s first transceiver integrated on single chip that operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.
• It will allow wireless transfer of audio and video data up to 5 gigabits per second.
HISTORY
The NICTA Gi - Fi research team has succeeded in taking complex 60GHz transmission technology and where it can be built on a single silicon chip.
It can have a span of 10 meters.
WHY GI – FI ?
–Slow Rate.–High Power Consumption. –Low Range of Frequency Operation.
NETWORK EVOLUTION
Comparision with other networks
Wi-Fi Wi-Max Gi-Fi
COMPARISION BETWEEN BLUETOOTH AND WI - FI
SPECIFICATION BLUETOOTH WI-FI GI-FI

DISADVANTAGES OF BLUETOOTH AND WI - FI
1. Bit Rate
2. Power consumptions
3. Frequency of operation
ARCHITECTURE OF GI - FI
• The core component of GI – FI is the subscriber station.
• It supports standard of IEEE 802.15.3C.• An 802.15.3C based system uses small antenna at
subscriber station.• It supports line of sight operation.
FEATURES OF GI - FI
• High speed of data transfer - 5 gigabits per second• Low power consumption - 2 watt power• High security• Cost effective – 10$ per chip• Small size - 5mm per side• Easily Installed • Highly portable
APPLICATIONS
1. Household Appliances
2. Office Appliances
3. Video Information Transfer
4. Inter vehicle communication
TECHNOLOGY CONSIDERATIONS
• Due to less cost of chip so many companies are looking forward to launch with lower cost.
• The Gi - Fi integrated transceiver chip is may be launched by starting of next year by NICTA, Australia will be first .
CONCLUSION
• Within five years, we expect Gi - Fi to be the dominant technology for wireless networking.
• If success of Wi - Fi and the imminent wide usage of Wi MAX is any indication, Gi - Fi potentially can bring broadband to the enterprise in an entirely new way.
