WHAT IS A SUCCESSFUL SCENARIO?
What IS a SUCCESSFUL SCENARIO?
A Unique Enrichment Opportunity for Focused, Independent Study by Gifted Students
Any possible Scenario will…
1…be based on an area of student strength and/or interest
2…involve an enriching challenge or “stretch” through
activities not available within the regular curriculum
3…involve a series of steps/goals which will be planned &
implemented by the student
4…result in a creative, original student product
WEEKLY WORK SESSIONS OFFERED FOR SCENARIO (INDEPENDENT STUDY PROJECT)
Every Wednesday during the “Purpose Enrichment Class” semester is a scenario work session. No pull-out is necessary during this semester, as class time is given for independent study and project production with direct teacher guidance.
During the opposite semester, wherein the student is in Health class, “Pull-out Sessions” are offered on a flexible, rotating schedule so that students will not miss the same class more than once in a given month. Students will schedule with the Purpose Support Teacher weekly.
The 5-W’s ofScenario Selection
A way of creatively determining your best choice for an engaging, exciting, fun, and educational independent project topic
The 5 W’s are?
WHAT do you want to… …know?
…learn?
…figure out?
…create?
…discover?
…prove? …explore?
WHEN will you do all this work?
In general, every Wednesday is a Scenario Work Session day during the semester-long, 5-day-a-week Purpose Enrichment class.
During the opposite semester (when you will attend Health class 5 days a week,) you will schedule a once-a-week “Pull-out” with your Gifted Support teacher. That “Pull-out” time will serve as your Scenario Session.
It is usually not necessary (and it is not required) for you to work at home on your Scenario/Independent Project.
WHERE will Scenar io work be done? Your P urpose classroom , com puter lab 131, the library, and other locations
The nature and topic of your scenar io will u ltim ately determ ine where your research, production, exper im entation, and/or creation will be done.
WHY is a “ Scenar io” Independent
P roject a valuable pursuit for Gifted Students? (Actually, it would be a positive pursuit for
ANY student!)
Well? What do YOU th ink? Goal setting, organization, research sk ills, creativity, discovery, determ ination, perseverance, tr ial & error , ingenuity, independence, determ ination, and?
HOW will students accomplish this task? (Your teachers and your parents can guide you.)
1.Choose a compelling topic which will engage and involve you for at least 6 months.
2.Determine WHAT you want to accomplish.
3.Set a series of connected, reachable goals (One should logically lead into the next.)
4.WORK toward your goals through research, problem solving, experimentation, trial & error, writing, organizing, etc.
5.ORGANIZE your information, make connections & determine conclusions, finalize your creation, product, etc.
WHO? Is going to do the scenar io planning, research, work , organization, production , and presentation?
