Parent Opinion Survey
This week the Parent Opinion Survey went home to 40 families randomly
generated from Cases 21 (the Department management program). Please complete the survey for the
child named on the back of the envelope and return to school by THIS FRIDAY. Your opinions and feedback
are very important and help us make our school the best it can be. As a thank you for your time in
completing the survey, all returned surveys will go in the draw for a $50 gift voucher for dinner at the Golf
Club. This survey is one of the key data sets which the Department collects each year.
Framework for Improving Student Outcomes FISO – Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Yesterday the leadership team and I, assisted by Mrs Driscoll, had a day at school focusing on the FISO
which as it is the Education Departments Framework for improving student outcomes. The FISO has four
key elements as part of this. This week we’re focusing on Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and
Curriculum Planning and Assessment in particular. Our work involved looking at the Victorian Curriculum,
refining it into Essential Learning standards and further developing our guaranteed and viable curriculum.
A tool to assist this work, is the use of proficiency scales which are a structural tool, which play an
important role in driving student learning goals and will inform our new live reporting structures.
Developing these proficiency scales is important learning, and will allow our team leaders to carry this
work through into their own teams as they build teachers understanding and knowledge in these im-
portant assessment and learning tools. I look forward to sharing more around this work with you in the
near future.
Case Study into Evidence Based Practice
This week our school will be part of a case study by the Evidence For Learning Network and the
Commonwealth Bank. They will be looking at how we are using research from the Teaching and Learning
Toolkit to help change our practice.
Curriculum Day August 2nd
A reminder that August the 2nd will be a curriculum day at Clifton Springs Primary School so students will
not be required to attend. If you need care for students please book in with our OSHC program who will be
running a full day service on that day.
Compass Parent evening August 2nd
Compass is our Student Management Tool. We are holding two parent information sessions on Tuesday
August 2nd 6pm and Wednesday August 3rd 8am, to introduce you to Compass, explain how you will be
able to access your child’s account and the benefits of being able to do this including;
Live reporting of student work. Each learning task will be uploaded with a description, marks and
comments together with a photo or video of their work.
Parents will be able to see their own child’s work and assessment and track how their children are
going throughout the term rather than having to wait until a report at the end of semester.
Parents will log on to their child’s page and they will be able to see their child’s attendance and
approve any absences.
Car Park Upgrade feedback
I wanted to say thankyou so much for the very positive feedback about the car park upgrade. I will be sure
to pass this feedback onto the Environment committee. We have more work coming in the near future so
make sure you watch this space.
Year 5/6 Camp
Yr 5/6 camp is coming in just 6 weeks. Permission forms together with other information about transport
for your child should have been returned by last Friday . Medical, Code of Conduct forms and a clothing list
will be sent home shortly. Please see your teachers if have any concerns or questions.
Swimming program
1/2K and 1/2M have been swimming up a storm at the Bellarine Aquatics centre despite the wild and
woolly weather conditions and feedback from staff and students has been positive. This Thursday will be
the last day of their 8 day program.
School Council Meeting
We have a School council meeting scheduled for next Tuesday evening at 7pm and I look forward to
seeing school councillors in attendance.
Until next week I wish everyone a wonderful week and remind all families that maximising attendance is a
critical factor in your child achieving their potential so, remember it’s not OK to be away unless you’re sick!

Assembly presentation this
week by 12R
1/2R, 1/2B and 1/2P had a great
time exploring the new playground
on Jetty Rd after the official
opening on Friday!
The new playground has a big flying fox which was pretty cool! I went way up in the air when I reached the end! Kayden
The park was awesome! It had a bouncy bridge and
lots of us jumped on it to make it go up and down.
Some of us swung and jumped off it too! Tahlia V.??
You have to go to the new playground on Jetty Road
because it’s fun and there’s two swings! My mum came too
and she pushed me really high. We also had a sausage
sizzle and it was really yummy. Millie

If your child will be away for any reason,
please phone the school on 5251 3581,

ARE YOU OVER—PARENTING? Continuing on from last week's 'Are You Over-Parenting?
So let's discuss another way to find balance in your parenting.
Do you regularly do for your child, the things he or she can reasonably do for
themselves?
It’s an irony of modern life that the busier parents get the more we tend to do for kids. In
the race to get things done we dress young children; prepare children’s snacks and
accompany them on trips outside the house even when they are old enough to do these
activities themselves.
If your child is not becoming more independent the older he becomes, then it’s time to
reassess your parenting.
Point to remember: Never do regularly for a child the things they can do for themselves.

GIRLS FOOTBALL Last Friday, the Year 5/6 girls represented Clifton
Springs PS at the District Girl’s Football Competition.
We were going with the expectation of improving
from last year where we only scored 2 points. We
were drawn in Pool A against Bellaire P.S. and Leopold
Primary.
Our first game was against Bellaire. We had the wind
in the first quarter and scored 3 goals and 4 points to
Bellaire’s one goal. We knew we would have to defend
well in the second half, which we did, keeping them
to 1 goal and 4 points meaning we WON by 6 points. Everybody was extremely happy with
winning a game.
Our second game was against Leopold Primary. They went in as favourites but we played
extremely well, leading at halftime by a point and going down by 2 goals at the siren. We were
all happy with how we played. They then ranked us in a ladder form, to decide the following
games. We were in 7th place out of 12 schools and were placed to play Drysdale and Bellbrae.
Unfortunately, the weather came across and the day was cancelled.
Overall it was a fantastic experience and we’d like to thank Mrs Tolley for organising it,
Mr Hanson for taking us and parents for coming to cheer and wash our uniforms!
WALK ON WEDNESDAY
Wednesday July 27th
Has your grade won the
Golden Sneaker Award yet?
Try and walk or ride at least part of the way
to school to be counted for your grade.
STAYING HEALTHY Please encourage your children to remember
basic hygiene to prevent the spread of
infections or illnesses. We find many children
get colds from each other.
THE COMMON COLD
Colds are caused by viruses and get better on
their own. Antibiotics work only on infections
caused by bacteria and have NO effect on
viruses.
Rest may help fight the virus and help you feel
better. Drink something soothing-keep fluids
up. Some medicines can help relieve symptoms
but check with the Pharmacist first.
BELLARINE DENTAL ARE BACK! The same students who received a dental
check—up earlier this year, will once again be
seen by a dentist from Bellarine Dental for
their 6 monthly check—up!
These will start on August 10th and
will continue over several days.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT POLICY 1. RATIONALE
1.1 Through the implementation of appropriate strategies, programs and policies, Clifton Springs
Primary School encourages a proactive approach to behaviour management.
1.2 Behaviour management is an integral part of student welfare and is underpinned by our school
values and student rights.
1.3 Behaviours that are acceptable / unacceptable in the school community are clearly defined.
1.4 The procedures and consequences that will follow from unacceptable behaviour are clearly
stated.
2. AIMS
2.1 To promote and demonstrate the School Values of Respect, Responsibility, Excellence,
Empathy & Innovation through positive reinforcement.
2.2 To make it clear that every student has a right to be safe at school and a right to learn.
2.2 To promote positive behaviour so that all students can expect to be safe and secure, have the
opportunity to learn, and experience mutual respect.
2.3 To enhance the development of self-discipline in students through the development of self-
esteem, the recognition and promotion of positive behaviour, demonstration of the school
values and the fostering of social skills.
2.4 This policy will be accessible to students and parents via our school website and at the front
office of the school and they will be notified of any changes.
*Please Note: This policy explicitly prohibits any form of corporal punishment as a form of discipline. 3. IMPLEMENTATION
3.1 Behaviour management strategies, demonstrating School Values and Restorative Practices, are a whole school commitment and staff are trained to utilise this approach.
3.2 Classroom expectations are led by a whole school approach and are negotiated between the teacher and the students at the beginning of each year.
3.3 Incentive systems are used to identify and encourage significant positive behaviour.
3.4 School Values and the Kids Matter approach will be promoted across the school to develop positive qualities in our students and to further integrate the school values.
3.6 The right to feel safe: - play is restricted to the north side of the school.
- students are to remain outside the school buildings at all non instructional times except under supervision.
- the toilets are not an area for playing games

- bike shed/front fence/gate areas are only to be used when arriving or leaving school.
3.7 The right to learn: - to strive for our personal best
- to be successful
- to develop strong work habits
- to pursue interests and talent areas
3.8 Consequences of unacceptable behaviour
Severe misbehaviour either in the classroom or playground will be dealt with immediately (use of red card to Administration) by the Principal / Assistant Principal, and may result in an ‘in school’ suspension, where the student will continue learning tasks away from other students and have a chance to discuss behaviours with the Principal / Assistant Principal. Attendance at outside school activities, for example, camp, excursions and sports days is dependent upon recent consistently acceptable and safe school behaviour. Documentation will be kept by the team leader. A new record will begin each term.
4. EVALUATION
4.1 The outcomes of effective behaviour management will be reflected on regularly to ensure a positive school environment. 4.2 The numbers of incidents recorded in yard duty books and frequency by individual students will be monitored.
