SELF-KNOWLEDGE II

WHICH IS MY PERSONALITY?It is quite useful to deepen in this topic in order for you to know in depth and be able to decide, as clearly and coherently as possible, your professional-academic option.

For this reason, we are going to use the Professional-Personal Typology defined by professor and psychologist Holland, which divides the personalities into 6 different subtypes. Read through it carefully and think which one you fit in best.

1. REALISTIC TYPE / OCCUPATION scene

Personality Traits: Stable, sincere, frank, robust, practical, confident, materialistic.

These are people who show interest in practical, mechanical, often demanding physical activities, or

activities that involve contact with nature (preparing crops, taking care of animals, etc.).

They prefer to work with tools and objects instead of working with words and people. They want to

build things and see practical results of their work. Normally, they do not seek social contact and

avoid being noticed. Typical occupations in this category include: agriculture, carpentry, mechanics,

driving, etc.

 2. INTELLECTUAL TYPE / SCIENTIFIC scene

Personality Traits: Independent, analytical, intellectual, precise, curious, reflective, critical, studious,

etc.

They like to observe and experience to understand the phenomena that surround them. They enjoy

solving problems using ideas and language. They highly value mathematics and scientific work. They

often like working alone and enjoy solving difficult and abstract problems.

They feel attracted by chemistry, architecture, biology, medicine, and research degrees in general.

3. ARTISTIC TYPE / ART scene

Personality Traits: Imaginative, idealistic, intuitive, expressive, artistic, bohemian, in a way willing to

withdraw from others or to do things individually.

They connect very well to the physical and social environment using their feelings, intuition and

imagination, showing interest in creative activities; they love innovation. They often prefer an

unconventional lifestyle and value independence. They actively seek opportunities for self-

expression and tend to be introspective. They do not like the rules or structured patterns. They enjoy

contacting people.

Among the occupations of these people are the writer, designer, musician, actor, etc.

4. SOCIAL TYPE / SOCIAL scene

Personality Traits: Understanding, cooperation, willingness to help, sociable, diplomatic, tactful and

delicate, with a strong sense of ethics and morality.

They are people who care about the welfare of others and show willingness to help; generally

relating well to all kinds of people, they have good interpersonal communication skills. They are

caring, generous and sensitive to the problems of others. Not at all do they like working with tools,

objects, machinery, etc.

They look for opportunities to express their interest through social welfare occupations, nursing,

education, etc.

Page 4: Givet autoevaluation questionnaire

5. ENTREPRENEURIAL TYPE / BUSINESS MANAGEMENT scene

Personality traits: Persuasive, energetic, dominant, ambitious, fashion followers, etc.

They face the world showing a bold, dominant, energetic and “aggressive” attitude. They are

dynamic, organizing, and confident. They feel attracted by activities that provide them opportunities

to lead, persuade and influence their thinking or convince others to buy their products. They like

leading, controlling, and supervising people, always in order to get a benefit (economic or for

progress) from their job. They value the money, power, and status. They do not like intellectual jobs

or those requiring much concentration.

Occupations of these people may be: executive managers, public officers, entrepreneurs, vendors,

etc.

6. CONVENTIONAL TYPE / OFFICE WORK scene

Personality Traits: Neat, thorough, perfectionist, effective, systematic, persistent, conformist, very

rigid with themselves, or people who strictly fulfill their activities and schedules.

They adopt patterns of conduct and standards sanctioned by society. They prefer occupations with

clearly defined duties: routines and verbal or numerical activities typical of office jobs. They dislike

everything that is not tidy and systematized.

Occupational fields most suitable for this type of personality are: accounting, files, etc..

You have to choose what kind of personality you belong to. You can choose three types: first of all, the one you think that defines you best, and then the other two that also fit to you, but not as much as the first:

1.

2.

3.

Most people do not belong to a single type. They are usually a combination of several types.

WHAT ARE MY SKILLS?When we speak of a person’s aptitudes, we are referring to their qualities and skills. They can inherit them from their parents and family or acquire them by learning and striving.

Being able to drive, to swim, having an ear for music, being quick in mental calculation, having facility for reading and writing, being good with hands, ……..are all skills. Each person has the skills or abilities that characterize and differentiate him/her from others. And, logically, a painter, a secretary, a teacher..... do not need the same skills.

It is very important to know the skills you have and the skills you lack, before choosing a degree to study or a profession. SOME SKILLS

One could go on naming skills, but we have chosen these usual ones; however, bear in mind that there are more. There are different ways to reflect on our own abilities: an appropriate way of doing it could be done through our school subjects. Marks tend to reflect our preferences, dedication and abilities. (Nevertheless, you know that many other aspects have influence in our marks (interest, effort ...) and not only our ability).

SELF-KNOWLEDGE III

Now, you have to analyze your performance in the last two years (in secondary education), to do so you must complete the following table

WHAT ARE MY MARKS?

After carefully analyzing your academic experience in each of the areas, assessing important aspects, it is time to reflect on our own qualifications and the opportunities we have:

You must indicate the option that comes closest to your current situation with an X

My marks in Secondary Education are good in all subjects:

If you’re thinking about studying Bachillerato (equivalent to A-Level qualification)

Note that, except for the Humanities field, in all of the modalities you should have

studied in the last year of secondary education “Mathematics”.

If you want to do later an engineering degree or a technical VET training

(advanced cycle), you have to take subjects related to technology and physics.

If you want to do later something related to health sciences, you have to take

subjects related to Biology.

If you plan to do VET training ( intermediate cycle ) :

Find out about the modules (subjects) you must take and assess whether they

relate to the areas you have studied in the last year of secondary education.

My marks in Secondary Education are good, but better in the areas of

Science than in Arts:

If you plan to do Bachillerato (equivalent to A-Level qualification):

Note that the common subjects for Bachillerato include Spanish, History and

English.

In the Humanities Bachillerato, are also studied Latin and Greek, and it is

recommended to do French.

If you plan to do VET training :

Get information about the modules (subjects) that are taught in each cycle.

My marks in Secondary Education are good, but better in the areas of Arts

than in Sciences:

If you plan to do Bachillerato (equivalent to A-Level qualification):

Note that in the Social Sciences and Arts Bachilleratos, one of the subjects is

Mathematics.

If you plan to do VET training :

Page 10: Givet autoevaluation questionnaire

Get information about the modules (subjects) that are taught in each cycle.

My marks in Secondary Education are regular in all areas (I have been

approving scraping)

If you plan to do Bachillerato (equivalent to A-Level qualification):

Seriously ask yourself if you can overcome it.

If you plan to do VET training :

Get information about the modules (subjects) that are taught in each cycle and

value if they relate to the subjects you were good at in Secondary Education.
