The Grand Paris Express is the new metro of the capital region. It is of unparalleled size, creating new momentum and human opportunities throughout Grand Paris and beyond. The Grand Paris Express project is already underway, involving the building of 200 km of additional automatic metro lines and 68 new stations. The Grand Paris Express is set to link Paris’ three airports, as well as business districts and scientific clusters. By connecting the various areas of Metropolitan Paris with each other and the center, and enabling all residents to commute to business districts and clusters, the new Metro is a growth driver for the capital region and France as a whole. The Grand Paris Express boosts the attractiveness and competitiveness of Europe's leading economic region. The long-term impact is estimated at 100 billion euros of additionnal GDP, in complement to the natural growth in the region and at least 115,000 new jobs. For all innovators and investors, this project is an opportunity to invent the mobility services of tomorrow and imagine a model for the 21st-century city.
The Grand Paris Express, a catalyst for the development
N°1global touristic destination
960,000companies established in Île-de-France
€ 100 billion additional GDP for the capital region
A digital highwayThe Grand Paris Express provides an opportunity to create new synergies between digital technology and transport that are essential to the attractiveness of the region. Traversed by a pipeline of optic fibers and equipped with data centers and cutting-edge Wi-Fi and mobile networks, the Grand Paris Express is aiming to be the most digitally advanced metro in the world. Thanks to this digital highway, users, companies and local authorities will have access to a plethora of new collaborative and customized open-data services.
Boosting land development The Grand Paris Express is paving the way for a substantial increase in housing stock in Île-de-France. An analysis looking forward to the year 2040 shows that the creation of the metro, combined with a pro-active urban densification policy, will generate the building of between 10,000 and 15,000 housing units per year within 800 m of future stations. This volume represents between 14 % and 21 % of the 70,000 housing units to be built each year to meet current demand in the region. In total, the Grand Paris Express will contribute to the creation of 250,000 to 400,000 housing units.
Transforming the urban landscapeThe construction of Grand Paris Express stations is accelerating the urban renovation process and highlighting the industrial zones around Paris. The presence of new stations is set to give added value to land that is currently underused, due to isolation and a lack of public transport. Landowners have already released land along the route of the future metro to enable the Société du Grand Paris, private developers and public housing authorities to start land development programs. Improved housing and the release of land in isolated areas provide incentives for developers and promoters to come to build the future of the capital region.

Close to Paris, the Stade de France office complexes and the future Olympic village, Saint-Denis Pleyel station is the main connecting node of the Grand Paris Express.
2.
Paris-Orly airport located in southern part of Île-de-France is getting ready for a complete overhaul. Its passenger capacity will increase by 2019 thanks to a series of building projects naturally revolving around the future Grand Paris Express station as lines 14 and 18 will terminate here.
3.
New schools and educational establishments are due to be built on the Paris-Saclay campus, gradually attracting some 50,000 new students. University residences will be built to accommodate them.
4.
Paris awarded the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic village, set up in Île Saint- Denis and in La Plaine Saint-Denis, will create 3,500 new housing units immediately available after the Games.
5.
The elliptical Villejuif – Institut Gustave-Roussy station, designed by the architect Dominique Perrault, creates a link between the outside and the inside, between the ground level and the Grand Paris Express platforms.
6.
La Défense, Europe's leading business district, buzzes both day and night, largely thanks to the U Arena, a cultural and sporting complex right next to the Grande Arche.
To remain among the top-ranked cities in terms of attractiveness, the French capital is set to expand into a 21st-century world city.
