  • Dear Saints of Norwood First Presbyterian Church: I am grateful to be back in the sanctuary worshipping with you each Sunday! Likewise, I am grateful for the respect and good will, the grace and faithfulness and mutual forbearance with which we have made our way through this trying time together. This is no small thing and certainly not something I take for granted. Attached to the end of this newsletter is a Daily Prayer Guide. Many have told me they found these guides helpful during our time apart and so I offer another for these summer months. Sentences of scripture open and close each day. My prayer is that these short pieces of scrip-ture may be words that you can hang onto during the day and that you will ponder the assur-ance they hold or the challenge they give for the living of our days. A few Sundays ago, we reflected together on the power and comfort of knowing someone is praying for us on a regular basis, not just when we are sick or experiencing trouble. I have included space for you to write down the names of individuals or families for which you will pray on each weekday. You may wish to let the person know that you will be praying for them on Mondays, for instance. Praying for one another is one way we can stay connected during the comings and goings of summer. Grace and peace, Julie

Updates: Church Sign: The rebuilding of the church sign will begin next week, weather permitting.

We do not have an estimated delivery date on the granite insert but lead times are long right now. Therefore, we may have a partial sign for some time. However, the area will be neat and clean.

Livestream: Bids are in and it appears that the equipment needed is available. Hopefully,

we will be able to livestream worship in July.

Got Pantyhose you no longer need?

Bring them to the church. We need them to make “pantyhose potatoes”

    to use for VBS games!

    Summer Worship Time Change

It will remain at 10 am through Labor Day weekend, September 5.

  • Thank you, Duane Stutler!

For several years, Duane has brought his mower to the church and mowed the big lot between the parking lot and the post office. He is “retiring” from this ministry. Duane, we appreciate you and thank you for your long commitment and dedication.

Presbyterian Women (PW) Friday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m.

The women had so much fun being together, they are doing it again. Come and enjoy a time of good conversation and fellowship.

Bring a bag lunch! Who exactly is invited? All women college age and above.

You do not have to commit to being part of PW in the fall to come!

Montreat Youth Conference July 11- 17

Our youth will once again be joining with the youth at First Presbyterian in Albemarle.

They will share a house, meals, and back home group activities. This year Stella Jones and Shannon Pacheco-Lujano

will be attending, along with Julie.

    Technology Team Being Formed

We need a team of 6-8 folks- high school youth and adults, men and women-trained on the sound system and the video camera for livestream worship. We need folks who will commit to a rotating schedule, as well as trained folks who can serve as a backup. It’s not complicated- promise- but it does require a little practice and understanding of what needs to be done each week. This is a critical ministry in the church. Speak to Jeff Russell to understand more of what this entails. Training will be provided by an AV specialist.

    Habitat for Humanity Needs You!

Volunteers are in short supply and Habitat needs to finish a house in Albemarle as soon as possible. As of today, the house is at the stage of installing laminate flooring, kitchen cabinets, and some bathroom fixtures, as well as painting the trim around the floor. If you can volunteer one or more days, please call 704-985-1050.

  • Wednesdays at the Community Table FPC is providing a volunteer every Wednesday to help Shelia, the cook,

prepare and hand out meals to our neighbors. Thank you to all who volunteered to help with that ministry. The schedule through August is listed below. Please switch

with someone if you have a conflict on your assigned day. Just let Sylvia Parker know about the switch!

Summer YMCA Camp We will once again host the Summer Y Camp. Signups have been slow this year as parents have been waiting to hear about summer school. If there are enough enrolled, camp will begin June 7. Campers will be in the fellowship hall, picnic shelter or playground from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every day except Fridays when they will be at Piney Point.

A Note of Thanks…. Dear First Presbyterian Church, Jeff and I want to thank you for the prayers, food, flowers, texts, and calls. It meant a lot to us. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

  • Summer Sermon Series: Samuel

For eight weeks in July and August, Julie will be preaching through the story of Scripture found in Samuel 1 & 2. Israel is experiencing pressure within and without. They decide that the answer is to have a king like the other nations. Of course, you’ve guessed it, having a king does not solve their problems. Kings fail like all human beings. We will become better acquainted with Samuel, Saul, and David, as well as a few lesser known biblical characters. A daily reading guide is included and you are invited to read along through this history, which at times, reads like a novel.

Faith on the Fifth August 29

Faith on the Fifth is an offering over and above one’s regular giving and began as a way to pay off the church’s debt- which we did! Given the expected life span of roofing, it is anticipated that within the next several years, we will need to replace the sanctuary roof. Now is the time to begin building a fund to cover that expense. Your gift to Faith on the Fifth in Au-gust will be put in our Emergency Fund for that purpose.

Thank You Silent Partners! Silent Partners keep in touch with our college students, sending cards and small gifts

and letting them know they are loved and in the prayers of this church.

Thank you to everyone who served this year. Susie Lisk, David & Finley Sutton, Kristi Wallace, Susan Moss, Kaye Coble, Pat Braswell, Beverly Johnson, Dutch Snead, Ursula McRae, Sandi Stutler.

Pay It Forward The Stutler’s have been providing eggs for church friends and events at the church for years. Presbyterian Women decided it is time we pay it forward. When you pick up eggs, you are in-vited to drop a dollar in the jar located in the refrigerator near the eggs. Once enough money is received, PW will purchase a flock of chickens through Heifer Internation-al or the Presbyterian Giving Program in honor of the Stutler’s. The gift of chickens will provide a steady source of nutrition and income to families in need around the world. And what a great way to say thank you to the Stutler’s for their egg ministry to us!

Ten Cents a Meal Offering: A Presbytery offering to reduce hunger and relieve suffering in our communities.

Ten Cents, a dime, for every meal we eat comes to around $9.00/month. Together we can make a huge difference!

Offering is received: on the 1st Sunday of each month.

  • Prayer List Connection Please help keep the Prayer List Connection up to date. Call the church office when you have an update on anyone on the list. This helps us all to know how to hold them in pray-er. If the person has recovered, we will rejoice and then remove their name the following month from the newsletter. Folks with chronic needs will be listed for a month in the bul-

letin. Following that month, we will keep them on the newsletter’s Prayer List Connection for as long as we are requested to do so. Critical prayer concerns will be added weekly to the prayer list in the bulletin.
