Brain Tumors : A Common Man’s Guide

Brain Tumor in India has a relatively low incidence and

affects about 2.5-4.0% population (males more than

females), although, the incidence is rising consistently.

Hence a high index of suspicion is mandatory in a

physician’s mind or an individual himself. Don't

neglect the symptoms. If we are vigilant then we can

catch the disease early and get cured.

Symptoms:

Headache: Headache is the most common symptom

which may start with an early morning heaviness of

head, sometimes associated with nausea.

Vomiting: Sometimes vomiting may be strong indicator

of brain tumor particularly in children, typically the

vomiting is projectile, means the child throws vomit

very powerfully and far from mouth. Vomiting may

relieve headache which is a strong indicator of

underlying brain tumor.

Progressive Neurological Deficit: If a person is

developing a defect in himself, eg. slurring of speech,

abnormal behavior, weakness of hand/foot, arm, or

entire half of body is strong indicator of an abnormal

growth in Brain-more likely the malignant variety.

Convulsion: It may be the feature of a Benign tumor or

a rapidly growing tumor.

What should you do?If someone in the family or friends develops such symptoms, they should immediately consult a doctor, preferably a Neurosurgeon who can, not only diagnose but also operate a tumor and later arrange a chemo or radiotherapy for you.

Facilities at Shalby Hospital: We have an experienced team of Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Medical Oncologists, Radiologists and Intensive Care consultants. Most of the tumors are tackled with concepts of MIS (Minimally Invasive Surgery) concept using Neuro-Endoscopes so that minimal opening in patient’s body is needed. We have a survival rate of up to 99% after surgery and infection rates are kept at less than 1% (equivalent to international norms). Brain tumor means sure death?Most people believe diagnosis of Brain tumor means death but fortunately it’s not so. Many brain tumors are “Benign”-means if treated timely and removed completely, they will not come back and patient is “cured”. Many tumors are malignant but are slow growing, & if small, and operated early, then we can manage them for a prolonged life and patients have a very long life.

Let This Story Inspire My Countrymen in Pakistan

Surgeon, Shalby Hospitals was invited for a talk on

“Complicated Knee Replacement” at the 10th Annual

Conference of Indian Society of Hip & Knee Surgeons -

ISHKS” held at Chennai from 8th to 10th April, 2016.

Dr. Shah presented difficult cases of Knee

Replacement (TKR) with special focus on the care to be

taken in such complicated cases to an elite audience

of over 1200 National and International surgeons. The

talk was well appreciated.

Mrs. Shahida Nasreen is a Pakistani national settled in

Dubai.

She has been suffering from knee pain (Right Knee) for

about 5 years now and consulted many doctors in

Dubai and Pakistan. However, none of them could

provide the right advice or treat the ailment properly.

Witnessing his mother’s plight for a long time, her son

Mr. Adnan Javed searched on the net about the world’s

best Orthopedic doctors who could help fix the knee

problem of his mother. In the midst of his net search,

Adnan has come to know about Dr. Vikram Shah of

Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad, India. After two months,

once gain while surfing on the net, he came to know

about the visit of Dr. Vikram Shah to UAE. Following

this, the mother-son duo met Dr. Shah who advised

them Total Knee Replacement (TKR). Due to medical

insurance constraints, they decided to come to India

and get the TKR done at Shalby, India.

Adnan initiated the Visa procedures in April 2015.

Though, he had submitted all relevant documents to

the authorities in Dubai, it took a whole year to get a

visa to visit India. Ultimately, the visa was granted in

March 2016.

“Despite the advices of relatives and friends who were scary about knee replacement, I was adamant on getting the surgery done by Dr. Vikram Shah who is considered as the World’s No.1 in TKR. We reached Shalby, India on 4th April 2016 and the surgery was done on the following day. Initially my mother was little afraid of the surgery but as she saw lot of patients who have undergone bilateral surgery walking in the hospital, she gained confidence. रजोिनवृि�

रजोिनवृि� एक नारी के जीवन का वह समय ह ैजब उसका मािसक

धम� बंद हो जाता ह।ै रजोिनवृि� अलग-अलग समय पर हो सकती ह।ै

सामा�यतः अिधकांश औरत� 45 और 55 वष� क� आयु म� रजोिनवृि�

क� ि�थित को �ा� करती ह।� ले�कन यह 40 वष� क� आयु से पहले भी

हो सकती ह,� और यह भी हो सकता ह ै�क 60 क� आयु तक भी आपको

रजोिनवृि� न हो।

कम से कम 12 महीने तक मािसक धम� �क जाने के बाद ही मेनोपॉज़

होता ह।ै मेनोपॉज़ के तुरंत पहले क� अव�था को पेरीमेनोपॉज़ कहते ह ै

અને પયા�વરણને બચાવવાનો હોય છે. આ �દવસે બધા દેશોમાં, �કુલમાં,

કોલેજમાં િવિવધ કાય��મોનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવે છે. જેથી આવનારી પેઢી

પયા�વરણનું મહ�વ સમ� શકે.
