The Wendy Herm “Woman Warrior” Memorial Scholarship Fund was recently established within the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan in memory of Wendy Herm who passed away in June of this year at 40 years old. Wendy lived a remarkable life and her passions never waned through the years ofbattling her disease. She lived by a mantra borrowed from Helen Keller: “Life is adaring adventure, or nothing.” She lived every day with vigor, purpose, honestyand full transparency.

In remembrance of Wendy’s athletic and academic accomplishments and incelebration of her adventurous spirit and passion for learning, family and friendshave established the Wendy Herm “Woman Warrior” Memorial Scholarshipfor a female Minisink graduate starting with the class of 2018.

Donations can be made online at www.cfosny.org or checks can be sent tothe Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.

Over 300 scholarship recipients, family members and community volunteers came together to celebrate the Community Foundation’s annual Scholarship Receptions held in early July. The receptions celebrate the achievements of local high school graduates and enable awarded students to meet the donors and fund representatives who make their scholarships possible. Since 2000, funds under the Community Foundation’s charitable umbrella have awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to local, deserving students continuing their education. This year alone, scholarship funds administered by the Community Foundation distributed more than $400,000 to 178 students from 41 different school districts throughout the region.

The CSR Award for Philanthropy recognizes individuals and companies in New York that donate funds, time, resources, or in-kind services to charitable, non-profit, and/or community initiatives with the intention of giving back for the greater good.

The Salvatore and Patricia Trocino Foundation estab-lished by mark and his brothers carries on the legacy of their parents by funding educational scholarships and other philanthropic causes in the Hudson Valley. Utilizing fun events such as the Giro d’Salvatore (a 100 mile bicycle race) and promotion via social media, Mark has raised thousands of dollars to help fund scholarships and charitable donations that continue his parents’ legacy of giving back to their community. “Who ever thought that starting a charitable foundation in your parents’ honor and riding a bicycle could have such an impact? I am truly humbled by what we have accomplished to date and know that we have only scratched the surface of this Foundation’s potential. My parents would be very proud,” said Mark Trocino.

David Mistretta Joins CFOS Board of Directors“Your greatness is not what you have, but in what you give.” –Alice Hocker
