Case Study:

In 2013, the Michael J. Fox Foundation took on the #UNselfie by asking their followers to post images of themselves showing the reason why they support Parkinson’s Disease research. Thousands of people around the world uploaded #Unselfies - or selfless selfies - that featured images of family members or short notes in honor of a loved one suffering from Parkinson’s. It was a highly visual campaign and helped raise support not just for the Foundation, but for the many people who face the disease every day.

Case Study:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America created a dedicated #GivingTuesday hashtag, #bbstues, and held events at their chapters around the country for bigs and their sibs to get together and talk about giving. They celebrated each chapter's volunteer and service moments, and used the “Big” #GivingTuesday hashtag to raise awareness for their community and programs on a national level. Individual chapters also lead their own fundraising and service campaigns to compliment the national conversation.

Tips:

• Don’t wait until the last minute… and don’t try to recreate the wheel. Try something simple and ramp it up to full throttle next year. Be smart.

• Social media is key to making sure that the #GivingTuesday message grows and it’s also one of the best ways to share your organization’s story, mission, and values.

• Explore the idea of an innovative partnership or collaboration – one that may not be part of your day-to-day operations – and see what takes root. It may be the start of something great.
