    6. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri on 22 February 2015 won the Indian Open title at the Delhi Golf Club. To clinch the title, Lahiri defeated SSP Chowrasia on the first playoff hole.

    7. Former India captain Anil Kumble and Australian legend Betty Wilson on 22

    February 2015 were inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame at the

    Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia.

    8. Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on 13 February 2015 awarded Honorary Life Membership to the former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly. He has been

    a member of the MCC World Cricket committee since July 2014.

Indian-origin scientist Professor Srikanth Jagabathula on 11 February 2015 received Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) given by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States (US). Professor Srikanth Jagabathula is from the New York University Stern School of Business.

    10. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt on 14 February 2015 announced that he will retire from athletics after the 2017 World Championships in London.

    The 28-year-old six-time Olympic gold medalist also said that he will focus on the 100metres in 2017. 11. Vijay Kumar on 3 February 2015 won the Gold in 25 metre centre fire pistol event under mens category in shooting competitions of the 35th National Games in Kerala. He won the Gold with a total score of 583 and finished with a clear seven-point lead over Silver medalist Samresh Jung (Himachal Pradesh) with a score of 576. Pemba Tamang won the Bronze a score of 575. 12.Mayuresh Pawar, 21-year old netball player of Maharashtra team, died on 2 February 2015 during the Day 2 of the 35th National Games. He died due to drowning while taking bath at Shanghumugham beach in Kerala. 13. Saloni Dalal, a school girl of Karnataka became the youngest medal winner in the ongoing 35th National Games in Kerala on 3 February 2015. The 12-year-old, Saloni won a Bronze medal in the 200 meter breast stroke swimming event. 14. Madhya Pardesh won the 10th National award FOR EXECELLENT work in MGNREGA. 15. International Cricket Council (ICC) on 29 January 2015 lifted the five-year ban imposed on Pakistans fast bowler Mohammad Amir. With this, Amir can now play in domestic cricket under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board with immediate effect. 16. International Cricket Council (ICC) in its board meeting in Dubai on 29 January 2015 announced that India will host the Twenty20 World Cup in 2016. The Twenty20 World Cup will be held in India from 11 March 2016 to 3 April 2016. The 2017 Champions Trophy will be hosted by England from 1 June to 19 June 2017 The 2017 Womens World Cup will be held in England from 4 August 2017 to 27 August 2017.

    20. Cueist Pankaj Advani on 17 January 2015 won National Billiards Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club in Kolkata. He defeated his PSPB mate Dhruv Sitwala 5-0. This was his seventh Senior National Billiards Championship. 21. Weightlifter Jimjang Deru of Arunachal Pradesh on 17 January 2015 created national record in weightlifting by lifting 238 kilograms under the 56 kilograms category. He created the record at the 10th Youth National Weightlifting Championship held in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. 22. Ukrainian Grandmaster Andrey Baryshpolets won the 13th Parsvanth International Grandmasters Chess Tournament on 16 January 2015. He defeated Deepan Chakkravarthy of India in the 10th and final round of the Tournament that was held in New Delhi. 23. Australian cricketer Brett Lee on 14 January 2015 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 20-year career.

    24. Bengaluru FC defeated Goa's Dempo Sports Club 2-1 to win their maiden football Federation Cup.

    25. Anirban Lahiri, an Indian professional golfer on 12 January 2015 was voted as the 2014 Players Player of the year in Asian Tour. 26. Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo on 12 January 2015 won the 2014 FIFA Ballon dOr award for the best footballer of the year in the world .

    27. Captain of Pakistans cricket team Misbah-ul-Haq announced to retire from One Day International (ODI) and T20 after the Cricket World Cup 2015. The decision was announced on 11 January 2015 so as to focus on Test Cricket only. 28. India will host the 42nd World Bridge Championships that will be held in Chennai from 26 September 2015 to 10 October 2015.

    29. Popov Ivan of Russia on 6 January 2015 won 7th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess title. He clinched the title via super tie-breaker after eight players ended with 7.5 points each. 30. Kumar Sangakkara, former Sri Lankan cricket captain, on 3 January 2015 became the fastest cricketer to reach 12000 Test runs. The left-handed batsman reached the milestone in his 224th innings played during the Sri Lankas second Test match against New Zealand played in Wellington.

    31. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on 28 December 2014 banned left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha from bowling in competitive matches. He was banned after his bowling action was found illegal.

    Ojha's action was tested at the ICC-recognised centre in Chennai and the test concluded that Ojha's elbow flexed more than the permissible limit of 15 degrees 32. Mahendra Singh Dhoni on 30 December 2014 announced retirement from International Test Cricket with immediate effect.

    Dhoni decided to retire from Test Cricket by citing the strain of playing all formats of Cricket. Now he wants to concentrate on ODI and T20 formats. 33. Sachin Tendulkar was appointed as the World Cup 2015 Ambassador announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

    34. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpee and freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) will receive the Bharat Ratna. The decision to confer the highest civilian award of the country was announced by the Union Government on 24 December 2014. Till now 43 people have been honoured with the Bharat Ratna. In 2013, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and scientist C N R Rao were awarded Bharat Ratna for their contribution in their respective fields. 35. Paul McGinley won Sports Personality Coach of the Year 2014 at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in Glasgow. He was awarded for guiding the European team to win the Ryder Cup of Golf at Gleneagles in UK in September 2014.

    36. Name of mascots of the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympics Games were revealed. They have been named as Vinicius and Tom. 37. Viswanathan Anand defeated British Grandmaster Michael Adams to win his maiden London Classic Chess title.

    38.Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss crowned Miss World 2014 at the pageant's final in London. 2013 winner Megan Young of the Philippines crowned Strauss. 39. Germany won the 2014 Champions Trophy of Hockey after defeating Pakistan by 2-0 margin at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

    40. Australian Cricketer David Warner on 12 December 2014 completed 1000 Test runs in 2014. With this, he became the first opener to achieve the feat in one calendar year since England skipper Alastair Cook in 2012. 41. Gwlady Nocera of France won Hero Women's Indian Golf Open 2014 at the Delhi Golf Club. 42. Sangakkara achieved the feat of crossing 13000 run during the third match of ODI series with England. 43. The South African cricketer Jacques Kallis on 5 December 2014 was appointed as the mentor and batting consultant for Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR). 44. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on 7 December 2014 suspended Mohammad Hafeez from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect for illegal bowling action. Hafeez is the Pakistani cricket all-rounder who bowls off-spin.

    ICC suspended Hafeez after he failed to pass the bio-mechanic test conducted for his bowling action. The test revealed that all deliveries of Hafeez exceeded permitted 15 degrees level of tolerance (by which the arm is allowed to bend). 45. MRF Limited of India will be the global partner for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. The decision was announced by International Cricket Council. 46. East Zone defeated West Zone to win the Deodhar Trophy cricket tournament. Final was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

    47. Former Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia became the first Indian Footballer to be conferred with Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Hall of Fame Award. The award was conferred on 30 November 2014 by FIFA president Sepp Blatter in Philippines. The AFC organized the award ceremony for the first time to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Apart from Baichung, nine other legendary Players from Asia were also honoured. Baichung has played 107 matches for India and scored 42 goals.

    Distinguished journalist Vinod Mehta was on 9 February 2015 awarded with the Yash Bharti Samman 2015 by Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government. He has authored a biography of Meena Kumari (movie actress and poet) and Sanjay Gandhi- The Sanjay Story (2012).     Delhi-born Vikram Chandra of 53 is a finalist in the criticism category for his non-fiction work Geek Sublime: The Beauty of Code, the Code of Beauty. 20. The Periyar Tiger Reserve of Kerala on 20 January 2015 won the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) biennial award. It was awarded for encouraging local public participation in managing the reserve. 21. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chairman R.K. Tyagi was on 16 January 2015 conferred with the JGBS-Top Rankers' Excellence Award for CEO of the year 2014. 22. Renowned Indian RTI activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal was on 15 January 2015 conferred with the Giraffe Hero award 2015 by a US-based NGO The Giraffe Heroes Project. Agrawal was awarded for his bravery in utilising the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 for public good despite innumerable challenges. Agrawal also holds the Guinness record of filing highest number of published letters to the editors. 23.     31. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpee and freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) will receive the Bharat Ratna. The decision to confer the highest civilian award of the country was announced by the Union Government on 24 December 2014. Till now 43 people have been honoured with the Bharat Ratna. In 2013, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and scientist C N R Rao were awarded Bharat Ratna for their contribution in their respective fields. 32. TVS chairman Venu Srinivasan was made Honorary Citizen of Busan, Korea on 18 December 2014. He was conferred with the citizenship for his efforts to enhance friendship and cooperation between India and Republic of Korea. 33. Noted Pakistan-born poetess Imtiaz Dharker was on 17 December 2014 awarded the Queens Gold Medal for Poetry 2014 for her latest poetry collection Over the Moon.

    The Reserve Bank of India on 13 February 2015 announced that soon the currency notes of one rupees denomination will be in circulation. The notes will be printed by the Government of India.

    RBI in its release informed that these currency notes are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011. It said that the existing currency notes in this denomination in circulation will also continue to be legal tender.

    India on 14 February 2015 successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Indian Navy's latest destroyer INS Kolkata.

    The launch off the Goa coast was flawless as the missile met all its designed parameters.
