Greetings GLACURH Advisors! We are one week away from NACURH 2015 at North Dakota State University. I can’t believe this year has come and gone so very quickly. The picture above is from last year’s NACURH Conference at the start of the term for the 2014-2015 Regional Board of Directors. These amazing students have made some pretty significant contributions to the region and they have helped your students throughout the year in various capacities. I am so very proud of each and every one of them and I hope that you are too. Please join me in congratulating them on a term well served. I plan to celebrate their accomplishments with them at NACURH 2015 and I encourage you all to celebrate your institutions’ accomplishments with your students at NACURH and back home as well. Whether big or small, let’s not underestimate anyone’s ability to impact the life of another as you all do every single day. I look forward to seeing many of you at NACURH! It was great seeing many of you at our No Frills 2015 Conference at Illinois Wesleyan University! Our students were able to conduct regional business and elect most of their regional board of directors, among other initiatives. They did a fantastic job in both the NCC and NRHH boardrooms.

Most notable impacts to the region as a result of legislation and motions on the floor at No Frills were:

Regional Communications Coordinators (RCCs) are now called Coordinator Officers (COs).

A technology add-on fee will be assessed at each conference to fund GLACURH technology purchases (laptops for the directorship, etc.).

Funds were officially set aside for conference scholarships. The first scholarship application will be available for GLACURH 2015.

GLACURH officially adopted NRHH Values and will transition accordingly.

NRHH policy now outlines that “Once an individual has shown dedication and commitment to NRHH according to the standards of their chapter, they will become an NRHH member for life.” This means that chapters may adjust their constitutions to put in a process to remove members who are not fulfilling the responsibilities of their chapter.

Our new regional philanthropy is Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The region selected a new GLACURH logo!

The region inducted four individuals into the Association of Alumni and Friends of NACURH (AAFN):

Andrew Haugen, UW-Green Bay D’Andra Sanders, Michigan State University Lance Sharp, University of Michigan Kate Tessier, Central Michigan University

It’s always good to see the CCs interacting withmembers of the RBD, our ADFA in this case.☺

RBD, Conference Staff, NRHH-CCs, and our wonderful special guests together in the NRHH Boardroom which proved to be very productive.

  • During the No Frills 2015 Business Meeting, the region elected the majority of the 2015-2016 Regional Board of Directors. Positions that were not filled at No Frills were appointed in April and will need to be confirmed at NACURH 2015! At this time, I am happy to introduce you to the 2015-2016 GLACURH RBD!

The incoming board will be sworn in during the Regional Recognition Ceremony at NACURH!

Please join me in congratulating the 2015-2016 Regional Board of Directors!

Before the Conference 1) Work with your NCC and NRHH CC to ensure that all of

the conference waivers and any paperwork your campus may require are completed.

    2) Work with your NCC and NRHH CC to ensure that you have your institution’s registration payment to present at check-in.

    3) If your institution is able, work with your NCC and NRHH CC to start your 2015-2016 affiliation process at NACURH by bringing your affiliation payment during check-in to the NIC (NACURH Information Center).

    4) Work with your NCC and NRHH CC to set expectations for your conference delegation.

During the Conference 1) Check in with your NCC, NRHH CC and rest of the

delegation regularly - it is good to schedule a delegation meeting after checking in to the conference to talk about who is interested in which sessions, setting times/places to meet, eat as a delegation, etc.

    2) Attend Advisor track and/or other programs. 3) Visit with your NCC and NRHH CC as the conference

timeline allows to talk about legislation discussed, how they are doing, etc.

    4) Spend time in the boardroom and NRHH boardroom; get a feel for what your NCC and NRHH CC are doing.

    5) Bids for the next NACURH conference will be presented at NACURH and the NACURH Board of Directors (NBD) of whom the GLACURH Regional Director, ADFA, and AD-NRHH are a part of, will select the host of next year’s conference. A "bid" is the information collected that is presented to the voting constituents in an effort to be awarded host of the conference. It is a good idea to take time to attend some of the conference presentations with your students. You can learn a lot about what goes into preparing a bid and more!

    6) Have fun and network with other professionals in and outside of our region!

Post-Conference 1) It is a good idea to visit with your NCC and NRHH CC

about having a post-conference wrap up delegation meeting. This is a time where delegation members can share what they got out of the conference, program handouts, and more.

    2) Follow up with anything that presented itself during the conference.
