Acting Principal’s Report

Last week we were able to notify parents and carers that Mrs Christine Dorward has been appointed as Principal of Glen Innes Public School. Mrs Dorward will commence with us at the beginning of Term 4 and we look forward to welcoming her to our school community.

Today the 2018 NAPLAN results are going home with our Year 3 and Year 5 students. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the results with your child’s class teacher, please do not hesitate to contact the school to make an appointment.

This week our Stage 2 and Stage 3 Aboriginal students will be attending Cultural Camp on Thursday and Friday with Mr Opie, Mrs Opie, Mrs Potter and Mr Taylor. The agenda for the two days looks outstanding and I thank Mrs Potter for all the work she has put into organising the camp.

I am looking forward to our CAPA Performances tomorrow and invite all our families to attend the 12:00pm matinee or the 5:00pm performance on Wednesday 19

Taronga Zoo Winners

GIPS were fortunate enough to receive three family passes to Taronga Zoo last week, provided by Ms Carol Green, the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer from the Armidale Department of Education Office. To ensure equity in who received the tickets, Mrs Potter, our Aboriginal Education Officer randomly drew a name from K-2, Stage 2 and Stage 3. Our lucky winners were Jack, Jacob and Emily. Congratulations and enjoy your time at the zoo!

During Stage 3 sport on Friday, 14th September we had a friendly soccer game, Mr Hodges’ Team v's Mr Wilson’s Team, with their teams consisting of our Stage 3 students. It was an intense match and everyone who participated had a laugh. The students who participated displayed great skill and sportsmanship.

It was a close game with the final score 4-1 in Mr Wilson's favour.

PSSA Netball Knockout Regional Final

The Glen Innes Public School’s netball team success in 2018 culminated in the team playing the regional final on home ground against Tamworth South Public School. The first quarter was very tight with each team scoring one goal each. Tamworth South then slipped away with a few more goals, keeping in the lead for the remainder of the match and taking the honour of winning the regional final 14-6.

Congratulations to both teams on a great display of netball skills and a special congratulations to the Glen Innes Public School team who represented our school with pride, determination and wonderful sportsmanship. The girls pushed themselves with sheer determination to do their best.

The girls should be congratulated for their commitment to training and the way they worked together as a team by encouraging and supporting one another. Thank you for being outstanding ambassadors for our school and a fantastic group of young ladies. I urge them all to continue their love for the game.

Jane Lawrence– Sports Coordinator

Premier’s Spelling Bee Final
