Dear parents,

Week 2 has started and it has been an awesome start to the year. A quick update on assemblies to let

you know that each morning classes K-6 will be assembling outside their rooms or in different spots

around the school. The only time they will assemble in one big assembly will be on Monday mornings.

The students are doing very, very well in moving to assemblies and staying silent when the bell rings.

Parents have a special role to play in Monday assemblies in that they can see their children and

often children have the pleasure of knowing that mum or dad saw them receive their award. Please

understand though, that once an assembly begins, students are under the supervision of their

teachers. We understand that kindergarten parents, especially, worry about their little ones, but

the teachers are trained and experienced and will give students the very best care and directions

to help them to settle in and for this reason, parents are asked to move away from the assembly

as soon as the music begins. Assistance of all parents in doing so, will be greatly appreciated.

Have a good week,Doug Meaney

Visual Arts Day – as the newsletter goes to print, students K-6 are involved in a visual arts day. Teachers

have designed a number of activities for all students K-6 and the students are very eagerly participating.

Thanks go to all teachers and especially Mrs Suri and Miss Donovan for their efforts in

coordinating activities.

Important community announcement – Changes to the law on smoke-free outdoor

areas. – A copy of the new guidelines on this topic is included in this newsletter. The letter

outlines very clearly where the new laws will apply. Each week for the next few weeks, we

will include a fact sheet explaining each of the new areas of legislation and how the law will

work. For our school, the main points will include the facts that it will be an offence to smoke:

• Within4metresofanentrypointtoaschoolbuilding(thiswouldapplytoourschool

gates on Armitage Dve)

• Inopenareasofpublicswimmingpools(thiswillapplyatourswimmingcarnival);and

Whilst AFL is a contact sport, there is no tackling. Students have to apply a two-handed grab to

stop an opponent. Students must have a mouth guard to be able to take the field.

Students who make a commitment to play PSSA must be prepared to play each week. Students

are expected to pay $7 for a bus each Friday.

Teachers are undertaking trials at the moment. Students who are selected will be notified by

their coach and will receive a permission and code of conduct note.

Summer PSSA will begin Friday 8 March, 2013.

Further information about draws, venues and times will be made available as soon as possible.

Thanks,
