Moving into Year 7 (Expression of Interest)

Parents and Caregivers of students in Year 6 should have received a copy of Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government school in 2020 by now. If you have not yet received a booklet and the accompanying Expression of Interest form please contact the school to obtain a copy.

As your child’s primary school education is coming to a close, it is time to think about which school your child will attend next year.

The booklet, which includes information to help you complete the attached expression of interest form, comes with other information to help parents through the process.

Note: The Expression of Interest is not an enrolment form. Once a student has been accepted to a high school, enrolment forms will be sent to families by the high school.

The completed Expression of Interest form must be returned to your child’s teacher by Tuesday 19 March, 2019

Thank you, Mr Keyes

Whole School Bounce Back Program Key messages to communicate to your child that support this program:

Accept differences in other people Everyone is different in some way and that’s okay. If you accept that other people are different (e.g. where they come from, what they look like, what they like to eat or do, and in their opinions), then you get to know more people (and not just those who are similar to you), you include people who are different from you in activities and conversation, and you don’t tease or exclude them. Be thankful and grateful. What can you do to help your child with this: Emphasise the importance of being friendly and including others as well as accepting differences in people. Discuss with your child how they might do this in each situation. Show them by example, too.

STUDENT WELLBEING UPDATE

Griffin Goal, Weeks 3-4: We will not run on the concrete.

Griffin Goal, Weeks 5-6: We will follow instructions to cooperate with our teachers and peers.

You may have noticed that our flower boards in the playground have had inspirational quotes added to them. A huge thank-you to Miss Mohr who took the time to design these quotes to add some positivity to our playground. We hope our students and their families enjoy these new additions.

‘CAUGHT YOU BEING’ (CYB) TOKENS

It is great to see that some of our GPS families have been implementing our PBL values in the family home. Please make sure your child writes their name, class and sporting house on the token before placing it into the box. They can even write why they received the token if they wish.

Congratulations to the following students who received a CYB token at home last week:

• Dipak 3/4C • Jaireet 6B

Below are some suggestions of behaviours you might give your child a CYB token at home or during family outings for:

Safe Respectful Learner - Talking to you if they

feel upset - Waiting for a parent to

cross the road - Following their coaches

instructions during training

- Working well with their team during a sporting session

- Playing/sharing their toys with siblings

- Using manners (please or thank-you)

- Reading their home reader or a book

- Asking and answering questions during dinner

- Completing homework

If you give a token to your child at home, please have them drop it into the box in the front office. ________________________________________________________________________________________

ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER EDUCATION KOORI CLUB COMMUNITY BREAKFAST

We had a wonderful morning on Tuesday morning at the Koori Club Community Breakfast. All students and their families who attended had a great time eating some yummy food and participating in some of the activities that we would do during a Koori Club session at school.

Thank-you to Mrs Mamo & Mrs Mitchell for attending this event and speaking to the families about your role as Aboriginal Education Officers within our schools area.

We look forward to our next Breakfast in Term 2 and hope to see lots of members of our school community there.

KOORI CLUB

This week we had a few students attend Koori Club. At the beginning of the session I welcomed the students and we spoke about how the Darug people, who are the traditional custodians of the land where Glendenning PS is have a traditional language.

We learnt the word ‘warami’ which means ‘hello, good to see you’. We then went on to have a look at the symbol which represents a meeting place. Two of our students, John and Crystal completed a display for our space.

Koori Club will be held in Week 6, during lunch 1 in the playgroup room.

Mrs J Bateup
