T he Member of the Month for April is . . .
Robert Davis! Who better for the month of April than our favorite tax man and CPA, Robert Davis! Robert is a long-time Glendora resi-
dent (since 1981), has been in business in Glendora since 1984 and started his partnership Davis and Deal, CPAs in 1988.
Now, if you get tired reading all of this, just remember, Robert is doing all of this! He has taken on several leadership roles in our club and regional Kiwanis, serving as was our President in 1992-1993, Division 35 Treasurer 2009-2012 and Lieutenant Governor in 2013-2014. Robert has used his accounting skills to serve as part of the CNH Audit Committee (Guest member, no voting power) in 2015-2016, a CNH Finance Committee member (with voting power!) in 2013-2014 & 2015-2016, and he is the current District Treasurer (2015-2016). Meeting Highlights Our visitors this week were Dave Wallach from the Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights and GUSD 5th grade teachers Jana Jacobsen, Kathryn Krieter and Lisa Williams-Lithacome. Announcements Dave Wallach from the Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights announced that on May 1, 2016 at 5:00 pm the Kiwanis Club of Hacienda Heights is holding “Ribfest 2016” Scholarship Dinner-Auction and encouraged members to support student scholarships by attending, purchasing raffle tickets or both. Pat Bushman announced that the Citizen of the Year banquet is tonight and that Dr. Chuck and Tricia Gomer will be recognized as Glendora’s Citizen of the Year for 2015. Wes Purkiss reminded members that the Glendora Welfare Association is holding its Annual Evening at the Castle fundraiser at Rubel Castle on May 7, 2016. Terry Damron provided an update on the Barton Reading program, announced that the 2015-16 student assessments had been completed and that students in the program showed significant improvement.

Judy Gillham reminded members that she is continuing to collect books for the “1st Kids program” and that she will present every-thing collected at the May DCM Meeting. Rob Voors donated 10 copies of the children's book, “The Restless Rock.” Art Ludwick announced that its scholarship season and that Glendora Kiwanis Club has awarded $12,500 in scholarships this year and that award events for each school will be scheduled and scholarship checks will be presented at that time. President Butler requested volunteer reports from the following Glendora Kiwanis Members Wes Purkiss, Dr. Bruce Schutte, Elaine Salamone and Wes Menard on volunteer activities from the past week. Dr. Bruce, Elaine and Wes were fined! Chuck Gomer reminded members that the Glendora Education Foundations Annual Food for Thought event takes place on April 29, 2016 and encouraged members to attend. In addition, he introduced Lisa Williams-Lithacome, Jana Jacobsen and Kathryn Krieter who announced that on May 2, 2016 Glendora Elementary Schools, 5th grade classes will participate in the 7th Annual Glendora Science Bowl and provided a brief overview of the competition and what their students do to prepare for the event. Member meeting Members Program Pat Bushman provided a brief introduction and announced that this weeks speaker was Dan Buehler a recently transfer from El
Monte Kiwanis Club. Dan provided overview of his education, work history and experience which included 32 years with the El Monte Police Department where he began his career as a cadet and
worked his way up to Acting Assistant Chief of Police before he decided to retire in 2015 so that he could focus on his family, his health and enjoying life.
In closing, President Butler wished Michael La Fond a happy birthday. In the spirit of generosity he an-nounced his desire to share a birthday gift given to him by John Fields with the club….Michael presented members with an empty gift bag…or so we thought….with a little bit of imagination he magically pulled three gifts from the empty bag.

Robert chaired our Flashback event the first two years and got Kiwanis involvement, and is still a mainstay for Daryl in the event. He was one
of many who took on the Christmas Parade when the JCee’s stepped down. Robert can always be seen helping set up, cook and clean up at our events, including Halloween Carnival, Concerts in the park, and Boxes for the Troops. If there’s a BBQ involved, Robert’s probably involved too!
Here’s the kicker… Robert Davis has attended all DCM meetings since 2009 to help represent our club!! As if that weren’t enough, Robert has been an active civic participant, representing the City of Glendora as a Planning Commissioner for 12 years, and is currently a Board member for the Community Service Foundation. With his son active in sports, his past activities, also involved service with American Little league (where he even mowed the fields!) Then, as his son transitioned to GHS, he was a member of the Football Boosters. Congratulations Robert ! !
