Principal’s Desk Week 10 Term 2 SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD Just over a week ago our Junior and Senior Dance Troupes represented our wonderful school at The Sydney City Eisteddfod. Congratulations to both troupes for their continued hard work and excellent performances. Our Junior Troupe were absolutory brilliant in their first ever public performance. Their hard work and outstanding smiles and precise delivery resulted in them being awarded 2nd Place. Our Senior Troupe performed a very unique routine and were awarded Highly Commended. Sincere thanks to Miss Cole, Miss Savage, Mr Roach, Miss Monty and our superb dance teacher and choreographer Laura Saunders for not only their continual hard work throughout the term at rehearsals but also for their commitment to the dance program by attending on Sunday. REPORTS This week all families will receive their child’s Semester One report as well as their Work Sample folder. After having read every report across the school I would like to sincerely thank the staff for their honest, explicit and constructive comments that I am fully aware are supported with documented assessments, observations and work samples. PULSE This Thursday I have the pleasure of attending the PULSE Concert held at the Sydney Opera House. Our Senior Choir, with their amazing teacher Miss Cole, will be part of the mass choir. Our Senior Dance troupe will also be performing. With rehearsals all day and performances at night I would like to thanks Mrs Denning, Miss Savage, Mr Roach and Miss Cole for supporting this program, especially so late in the term. INVOICES Invoices for Term 3 will be sent out this week to allow parents time to arrange payments and return permission notes. Please note the due dates on all of these events to avoid disappointment. PEER SUPPORT TRAINING This Wednesday our Year 6 students will be training as Peer Support leaders for next terms program. They will take part in various activities that will develop and support this leadership role. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Today, at last, the school is holding both K-2 and 3-6 Athletics Carnivals. We have woken to a cold but sunny day which is fantastic. Thank you to Stage 2 for their organisation of this carnival at a busy time of the term. Finally a thank you to all who have contributed to our great school over the last term. I am aware that there are some very tired teachers who will be looking forward to that bell on Friday afternoon. I wish all of our community a great holiday with family and friends. PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE 2019 (PRC) We are reading away at Glenhaven! We have 384 students who have already logged online and 267 who have finished their reading record! Our aim is to have EVERYONE complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge by the end of August. Logon is simple – Search for the Premier’s Reading Challenge NSW online, go to that website. On the website click on ‘logon’ and enter your child’s username and password, which is the same username and password that the students use at school to use the school computers and iPads. This continues to develop positive respectful relationships among students and staff which in turn promotes student wellbeing and ensures a productive learning environment. It takes time for students to learn expectations across the variety of school settings. To retain new behaviours, students are given specific, positive feedback and opportunities to reflect on their behaviour. Students are reminded about expected behaviour and retaught expectations before receiving any consequences. Our aim at Glenhaven PS is to create and maintain a positive environment for learning. Glenhaven is formalising our current systems that are in place in our classrooms to be in line with our whole school Positive Behaviour for Learning program. Our PBL program now encompasses both playground and classroom settings. Our fortnightly focus for weeks 8, 9 and 10 is the playground. In particular, we are focusing on two things: walking on hard surfaces at all times and following teacher instructions promptly. If you are able to discuss these matters as well with your children at home, this will help reinforce our school expectations.
