rooms a great job everyone!! To all the par-ents, grandparents and carers thank you for taking time to see the wonderful programs the school is operating - the students really enjoy showing off their work!!!

WALKATHON The Walkathon was a huge success Friday. The weather was perfect and the children were great. All students were able to collect their 10 ticks indicating they have completed the walkathon. A big thanks to Mr Corry who organised the activity and the parent helpers who assisted supervising the course—Mrs Geerin, Mrs Hassan, Mrs Bashar, Mrs Petter-son, Mrs Cloake, Mrs Hancock and Mrs de st Germain. Also those who came forward to help with the fruit after the event. Special congratulations to the staff that walked and supervised to ensure all students were safe and finished in the designated time. We must be a fit school as the whole event was com-pleted in just less than one and a half hours. Please ensure that all sponsorship forms are returned ASAP. Once again thank you to eve-ryone for your wonderful support in this event.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS RECOGNITION Last Thursday evening Josh and Madelaine attended the Mayors Annual School Leader Ceremony at the Joan Suther-land Centre. The Ceremony was attended by David Bradbury and Karyn Palluzano. All the schools in the Penrith district were repre-sented and all Captains were presented with a special certificate from the Mayor and had their photo taken. At the conclusion of the presentation the Mayor provided supper and drinks for families and friends.

50,000L WATER TANK Our water tank has been successfully in-stalled at the end of the administration block. The tank has a watering system and pump attached so that the front of the school can be watered and kept green in dry spells. We were also able to replace many of the broken bubblers that continually leaked because they were not turned off correctly; the new taps are spring loaded so this should not be an issue any more. The school was fortunate to have

SYDNEY WEST SWIMMING REPORT TERM 1 2009

Hello my name is Heidi. On Tuesday the 31st March 9 Glenmore Park students went to SOPAC (Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre) at Homebush. There was myself, Siyumi, Breanne, Aimee, Jack, Ryan, James, Andrew and Matthew. We were representing the Penrith Zone at the Sydney West Swimming Meet. I had a cough and a blocked nose but I was excited about doing my best. My first event was the 100m Freestyle it was 9:00am. I blew my nose then went down to marshall for the 100m Free. I swam a time of 1:16.94, this was a 3-1/2 second pb. I am very happy because any pb swims, swum at this meet can be used on a Swimming NSW entry card, for outside of school swimming meets. Next to swim was Jack in the 50m Freestyle. Jack swam well swimming a time of 40.14. Siyumi and I were up next also swimming the 50m free. Siyumi swam a time of 36.20, and I swam a time of 34.79, although this was not a pb for me in this event, with a blocked nose I still swam well. James followed us with his 50m Free in a time of 35.92. Breaststroke was next, and it was Siyumi up on the blocks. Siyumi swam her 50m Breaststroke from one end to the other in 52.13. Next to get wet is Ryan and James swimming the 50m Breast. Ryan swam well doing a time of 52.21. Unfortunately James was disqualified, this can be for a number of reasons. All of us have been disqualified at one time, even Ian Thorpe has been disqulaified, and James still swam very good. My nose was becoming blocked again, so I took care of that, it was then time to be marshalled again. I walked down with Siyumi and Emily (from Regentville PS) to marshall for our 50m Backstroke swims. Emily is a friend I compete with at swimming NSW swim meets out-side of school. I found it harder to breathe in my Backstroke swim, as my nose felt all blocked up again. I swam my Backstroke in 42.84 and as Siyumi always does, swam her Backstroke rally well in a time of 41.15. Ryan hopped in the water next for his Backstroke swim, and swam a time of 47.16. Ryan has been out of the water, partici-pating in other sports, and only returned to the pool for squad training a short while ago, so he has done well. Now it was time to Fly… I love to Fly even with a blocked nose. Siyumi swam her 50m Fly in 41.60, and I swam my 50m But-terfly in 42.10. I was a little disappointed in my time because I was 3 seconds slower than my usual time I swim it and I was really hoping to do a 38.00. As the day went on I was needing to blow my nose more and more, so I am happy with my Fly time. I know that I will do a 38.00 when I am feeling better. Ryan was up next with his 50m Fly, he swam well and did a time of 42.46. Next up was the 200m I.M. and with my nose I knew I just had to go out there and do my best. I knew I wasn’t going to do a pb on my time 3:13.59 that I swam at our district champs outside of school in February this year. I found it hard to breathe over the 200m but I did the best I could with a time of 3:23.10. Siyumi swam well and did her 200m I.M. in 3:13.66. We all had one swim left to swim, and it was the best swim to finish on, first up was the girls senior 4x50m Freestyle Relay. Sitting all day for this one swim were Breanne and Aimee, they are really nice, and they are good swimmers. Siyumi and I could not have done it without them. Thank you Breanne and Aimee, it must have felt like a long day for you. Breanne and Aimee don’t swim the hours that Siyumi and I do. Breanne has been on the relay team with Siyumi and I for the past 3 years, and has got stronger and faster every year. This was Aimee’s first year and that was nice, our time was 2:42.35. Andrew and Matthew had a long day waiting for their only swim the boys senior 4x50m Freestyle Relay, swimming with them was James and Ryan, they all swam well with a time of 2:40.30. This is my story of the Sydney West Swimming Meet. By Heidi - Year 5
