skills. Students can raise the bar for themselves by challenging their pre-tests. Student skills in the numeracy area have improved considerably. Parents can view their children’s progress now.

SCHOOL CARPARK – A SAFETY HAZARD Parents are reminded not to use the staff car park gates as a pedestrian access way. The amount of traffic using this area makes it unsafe for prams and pedestrians. All parents and students need to use the main gates to avoid any accidents occurring. Your help is greatly appreciated.

BI–ANNUAL SCHOOL FUNDRAISER TERM 2 – WALKATHON

Our school fundraiser this year will be a WALKATHON in Term 2. The funds raised will buy a new interactive whiteboard for our demountable classrooms which don’t have them. Again we will have some excellent prizes for amounts raised.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL TESTS These tests will be held on the 17th March at Jamison High. All parents who have students involved have been notified.

EARTH HOUR – 26TH MARCH As a part of our environmental program our school will participate in this event on Friday 25th March from 2-3.00pm. Students involved will become more aware of ways we can conserve energy, discuss issues related to science and our planet.

STATE ELECTION VOTING DAY CANTEEN OPEN FOR BREAKFAST & LUNCH

26TH MARCH On Election Day the school canteen will offer; Breakfast – Bacon & egg sandwich Lunch – Sausage sizzle Drinks and all other items excluding hot food will be available throughout the day. Michelle Collins PRINCIPAL

PARENT HELPER NEEDED ON K/6S Mrs Small would love a parent helper on Mondays and Tuesdays 11:30am-1:00pm to work with her Kindergarten students. (No accompanying toddlers please.) If you are interested please contact Mrs Small through the Front Office.

EASTER EGG RAFFLE Easter celebrations are fast approaching. The school Fundraising Committee is again organising a monster Easter Egg Raffle. They require all families to donate Easter eggs, cellophane or ribbon so they can make up as many prizes as possible. Last year they were able to make up around 50 prizes for the raffle which will be drawn on Friday 8th April, the last day of school. This is a great fundraiser for the school and the students really enjoy the baskets if they are lucky enough to win. Please send all donations to the front office before Wednesday 6th April.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST YEAR 7 2012 Year 6 parents are reminded that Expressions of Interest for Year 7 2012 are due back this Friday, 18th March. All children including those attending private high schools next year are asked to complete the relevant sections according to their intentions and return the Expression of Interest to their child’s class teacher.

DEPOSIT FOR THE YEAR 6 CANBERRA EXCURSION

The $30 deposit for the Canberra Excursion is due back by next Friday, 25th March. This deposit will determine numbers travelling to Canberra on the 23rd/24th June and confirm the final cost to parents.

THE SCHOOL ZEBRA CROSSING Parents can assist the school staff by using and insist that their children use the patrolled zebra crossing at the front of the School. The Lakes Drive is very busy at both the morning and afternoon periods and caution being used by using the zebra crossing will result in accidents and mishaps being avoided.

LIBRARY NEWS All scholastic book orders are due back at school by Wednesday (tomorrow). Please return your order form, with your payment, to the front office by Wednesday 16th March. Just a reminder that all students need a library bag so that the books they borrow are well protected. If your child has lost their library bag they can use a sturdy ‘enviro’ or ‘shopping ‘ type bag. There is also a collection of ‘spare’ library bags which they can borrow from the library. If anyone has a heap of unwanted appropriate size bags at home, that could be used as library bags for those students

that don’t yet have one, please feel free to donate them to the library supply! It is pleasing to see so many students logging on the Premiers Reading Challenge website at home, and entering the books they have completed. It is not a complicated process and it is very good to have students take responsibility in this area. Thank you Nerida Dalitz TEACHER LIBRARIAN
