Country Fair Success The Country Fair held last Sunday was a huge success. A wonderful day was had by all and the turnout was amazing. Thank you to the many students, parents, family members and friends for coming along and joining in the fun.
Thanks to your support, the P&C raised $44,000. Your contributions raised $7,800 – raffle; $7,221 - food stalls; $5,639 - chocolate wheel; $2,166 - plant stall; $1,620 - jar sales; $1,082 - cake stall and $850 - lock & key. All of the money will go directly towards improving opportunities for your children, including new playground slides, additional curriculum resources, more computers and possibly an extension to the COLA over the new sandpit. A very special thanks to all of the parents who worked tirelessly to organise the day. Even though the actual Fair only took six hours, many dozens of hours were spent organising the day. Thank you also to the staff who supported the day by running stalls and preparing the students for their dances. The biggest thank you must go to Mrs Dennise Williams. Mrs Williams coordinated the whole event and, I am sure you will agree, provided a wonderful day for many hundreds of people. On behalf of the entire Glenorie Public School community, thank you
very much Dennise Williams, Neisha Walmsley, Megan Piper, Libby Cuza, Kate Devaney, Kelly Kearns, Libby Powell, Catherine Militello, Jenny Smart and Madona Habkouk.
Another Great term We would like to congratulate all of our students for working hard throughout this term to achieve many of their personal, educational, social, sporting and cultural goals. All of the teachers truly appreciate the “self-drive” you have all developed throughout this term. Thanks, as always, to our parents for your ongoing support, at home and at school. We couldn’t do the focused job of teaching without your support. Thanks to the staff, teaching and support, for ensuring our core business ALWAYS revolves around teaching and learning. We have many reasons to feel proud. We look forward to achieving even greater things next term.

That’s not a pie…… This is a pie Rob Pirina from Glenorie Bakery has been baking up a storm in Glenorie over the last month with the creation of the "Invictus Pie" which will be a fundraising initiative in aid of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 presented by Jaguar Land Rover. Glenorie Bakery is donating $5 from every Invictus Pie sold to raise funds to support the Games. Invictus Games has asked Glenorie Public School to be part of the celebrations on Wednesday 3rd October at the bakery. They would like us to represent our school by wearing our school uniform on the day. It will be a fantastic fundraising day for the Invictus Games with Jnr Bakers Academy, face painting and kids arts and crafts. I will see you there at 11:30am.
Enrolments Enrolments are now being processed for 2019. If you have children who are due to start Kinder in 2019, please enrol them before the end of this term as both classes are full. You will need to provide a Birth Certificate and Immunisation details. If you have new neighbours with school-aged children, please ask them to contact the school for an enrolment package. If you plan on moving out of the area at the end of this year (therefore resulting in your children not attending Glenorie PS in 2019), please inform the school in writing before the end of this term. Two families have already let me know. Thank you.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thanks to the many parents who are constantly praising our school. Many of the enrolment enquiries that we receive are as a result of positive feedback from you. Thank you for constantly “singing the song of your school”!
Thanks to our Volunteers On behalf of the staff at school, I would like to offer sincere thanks to the many parents who offer their time and effort to make our school a wonderful learning environment for students. Your commitment to the students and school certainly allows us all to work, learn and play in a great environment… you are all truly appreciated!
Term 4 Starting Date… The starting date for term 4 is…
Monday 15th October.
We hope you all have a relaxing holiday.
School Planning…
As the year draws to an end, many students and parents will begin to think, “Who will be teaching the children next year?” As with previous years, draft plans will be developed, however, we will not inform you about teachers/classes until 2019; our decision is not based on a conspiracy-theory secret society…it is based on the fact that due to potential enrolments up to and during the holidays, any planned structure may change in the new school year anyway. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
Gold, Silver & Ribbon Assembly This Friday, we are hosting our Gold & Silver Assembly. Parents and friends are invited to this assembly, as we acknowledge the achievements and efforts of our students.
Stewart House Clothing Appeal Every year Stewart House benefits financially from collections of clothing in schools. The Smith Family generously provides bags and undertakes the collection and pays Stewart House for each kilogram received. Today your child will bring home a Stewart House bag. Blankets, towels, clothing that you no longer require will be valued. Please place clean clothing in the bag and return to the office by 26th October.
Holiday Security As always we seek your support during the school holidays to ensure our school remains secure. If you see any suspicious person(s) in the school grounds, please contact our School Security Unit on 1300 880 021 or Hornsby Police on 9680 5399. Thanks for caring about your school. Please remind your children that our school is “off-
limits” during the holiday period. We will be
videoing all intruders.
Daylight saving time 2018 in New South Wales will begin at 2:00 am on Sunday 7 October
Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning! Lyn Pearce Principal
Thank you to everyone who visited the
brigade stand at the fair last week. It is
always considered a privilege for the
brigade to support school activities. It was
a very busy weekend for our members. District courses for Bush Fire,
First Aid and Rural fire Driver involved several members while newer
members did vehicle familiarisation at station.
New Members Welcome We have welcomed several new members over the last few weeks. If you are interested in joining the brigade now is
the ideal time, so you can complete your initial training with a group of very enthusiastic, like-minded people.
FIREPROOF your PLAN
Don’t let the cooler, damp days this week lull you into thinking the fire danger is past. A couple of hot, windy days
and we will be right back up to SEVERE or beyond. So, we ask “How FIREPROOF is your PLAN?”
There are simple things you can do to protect yourself and your family this bush fire season.
Discuss with your family what you will do if a fire starts near you
Prepare your home and get it ready for bush fire
Know the bush fire alert levels
Keep key information like websites and emergency details handy. Download the Fires Near Me app. Go to
www.myfireplan.com.au for further information.
Brigade members will be on hand at the school assembly this Friday to answer questions and discuss your Bush Fire
Survival Plan with you. Please allow a couple of minutes to pick up a copy of the plan so making a fireproof plan
becomes a priority these holidays.
We wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe holiday. As always you are welcome to call the brigade community
engagement officer James Wicking 0422 168 914 or Elizabeth Whiteman 0416 201 196 should you need assistance
with your plan. You can also call the station 9652 2017 (leave a message someone will get back to you) or visit the
Glenorie Station Monday evening from 8pm or Saturday afternoon from 2pm.
P & C News
What an AMAZING day!
On behalf of the P & C, I would like to THANK all the
families that came along in the beautiful sunshine to
support our school at the 2018 Country Fair. It was truly
a wonderful community day.
Our Country Fair preparations started in March 2018, when I called the first meeting. The following
generous, excited, amazing and talented ladies came forward:
Neisha Walmsley
Madona Habkouk
Megan Piper
Kate Devaney
Kelly Kearns
Libby Cuza
Libby Powell
Catherine Militello
Jennifer Smart
Together we started
researching and developing
plans to make the 2018
Country Fair a memorable
day. On behalf of the whole
school I thank you for
your commitment and
contribution to the day. We
all worked extremely hard to
make the day successful so
we should all be proud. It
was an absolute privilege to
be working with you;
nothing was ever a big ask
and I thank you from the
bottom of my heart for
working with me to create
such a wonderful day.
You are all truly remarkable ladies - can’t wait to celebrate with you all.
The Country Fair consisted of two parts, Business Sponsorship Program and the Actual Country Fair Day.
The business sponsorship program generated $14,200 and the Fair day generated $29,800. The overall
success amounted to $44,000.
While we started the day $8,000 less in sponsorship money compared to the 2016 fair we managed to
achieve a result that exceeded the 2016 result which was absolutely amazing and the organising committee
is blown away by this result.
Here in the Glenorie Community we have a lot to be grateful for…….
To the parents and students of Glenorie Public School, we
thank you for your help on the day, from the parents that took
on the Class Coordinator position and ensured all class stalls
had enough volunteers to help on the day, to the parents that
helped ALL day long in the food stalls and other stalls. Overall
most families did their bit to make the day a success.

too busy
counting all
the
money……
We are lucky at Glenorie Public School to have a dedicated
school Principal and teaching and support staff that were
excited to be part of the day and come along and help on the
day and also assist during term 3 with all of the Country Fair
activity. A lot of other schools don’t receive this support but
we did and we are so grateful.
Thank you to our Business Sponsors –
Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and
Bronze – you will find a full list in the
Glenorie Public School newsletter – please
support these business when you are
considering any of their services in the
future.
Thank you to all the businesses that donated to our school, from the local Glenorie and surrounding areas,
to the businesses further away, giving vouchers and other items to use on the Chocolate Wheel and Major
Raffle.
A special thank you to David Camilleri for
running the Chocolate Wheel stall – 104
spins were spun, he spent all day being
MC of the Chocolate Wheel, generating
$5,639 for the school.
A special mention of gratitude to all the
generous families in our school community
who made and donated all the food and
fresh produce to our Lebanese Kebab &
BBQ stall. A HUGE thank you to all the
people who were by Madona’s side all day
cooking and wrapping the delicious kebabs! Such a huge success with 100% of profits going straight back
to the school.
A BIG thank you to the Kearns family and the wonderful
team at Camelot Amusements for providing a wonderful
playground on the fair day.
Thank you to all the performance groups for providing
wonderful entertainment throughout the day also.
Thank you to Gary Pearce for spending Friday collecting
all the plant donations and running the plant stall on
Sunday.
Special mention to the Year 5 and 6 students who ran their
businesses at the country fair and helped during their
allocated time slot - it was a successful project where the
children had the opportunity to write a business plan and
execute their business venture on the fair day. In term 4 we will be discussing the results with them. Well
Done!
Thank you to Ulla and Bjorn Art & Photography Studio for capturing the day for us through photos.
You can view the gallery of photos at www.gallery.ubartshack.com.au/view-your-pictures/80214
