Thefirst-everGlobalBambooandRattanCongress2018(BARC2018)willbeheldfromthe25th to 27th June 2018 in Beijing, P.R. China. The International Bamboo and RattanOrganisation(INBAR)andtheStateForestryAdministrationofChina(SFA)warmlywelcomeany organisations working with bamboo or rattan or in other relevant fields to apply toorganiseasessionatBARC2018.INBARiscurrentlysearchingforpartnerstoco-organiseover30parallelandthematicsessionsat BARC2018, particularly in the thematic areas of poverty alleviation, energy efficiency,sustainable housing and construction, efficient use of natural resources, climate changemitigation,andecosystemmanagement.Proposedparallelsessiontopicsinclude:

• RenewableEnergyandBambooBiofuels• South-SouthCooperationforLandscapeRestoration• BambooforClimateChangeMitigation• South-SouthCooperationonClimateChange• “TheBeltandRoad”Initiative• CertificationofBambooandRattanResources• StandardsforBambooandRattan• BambooandRattanTechnologyandInnovation• UtilizingBambooandRattanforPovertyAlleviation• SustainableConstructionwithBamboo• ValuingNatureCapital/GreenGDP

Acceptance/RejectionNotificationDeadline* 28thFebruary,2018*Sessionproposalsarereviewedandevaluatedastheyarereceived;sessionco-organiserswillreceivearesponseafterBARC2018OrganisingCommitteehasevaluatedtheproposal.

GeneralGuidelines:

• Anyorganisationworkingwithbambooandrattanorinrelevantfieldsiswelcometosubmitaproposal.

• TheproposedsessionmustaddresssomeaspectsoftheCongresstheme:“EnhancingSouth-South Cooperation for Green Development through Bamboo and Rattan’sContributionstotheUNSDGs.”

• Sessionproposalsshouldincludebasicinformationonsessionorganiser(s),objectives,content,format,andproposedspeakers.

• Proposedsessionsshouldbe1.5to2hoursinlength.Werecommendeachspeakerbegiven15-20minutesforhis/herpresentation.

• SessionsshouldbeconductedinEnglishorChinese.SimultaneoustranslationservicesinEnglishandChineseshouldbeavailableforparticipants.

SelectionCriteria

• Session proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the BARC2018 OrganisingCommittee.

• Incompleteproposalswillnotbereviewed.• PrimaryconsiderationwillbegiventorelevancetotheCongresstheme.• Thecommitteewillalsoconsiderthescientificqualityoftheproposedsession,the

involvementof INBARMemberStates, and thegeographic andgenderdiversityofproposedsessionpresenters.

• Proposalswill be evaluated as they are received, sowe strongly recommend thatproposalsbesubmittedassoonaspossible.

• The decision of the BARC2018 Organising Committee regarding acceptance ofproposedsessionsisfinal.

• Theformat,content,andagendaofsessionsatBARC2018aresubjecttoapprovalbytheBARC2018OrganisingCommittee.Sessionco-organisersmaybeaskedtoreviseallaspectsoftheirproposedsession(s).

Acceptance/RejectionNotification

Notification regarding acceptance or rejection of session proposals will be sent to thedesignated contact person by email; thus, an accurate email address is critical.

ResponsibilitiesofSessionCo-organisers

ParallelsessionsarecollaborativeeffortsbetweenINBARandsessionco-organisers.INBARandco-organiserswillcombinetheirexpertisetodefinethetopicandagendaforeachsession,identify,andinvitekeyspeakersandparticipants.INBARwillprovidelogisticalsupport,whilesessionco-organisersshouldexpecttocoverparticipant-relatedexpenses.
