Our bodies –Eventually they’ll run down… despite all our efforts to delay such. Natural disasters – Famines, tornadoes, tsunamis, cannot be contained… by all the efforts of man.

Other human beings –The 20th century was the most murderous century… in all of recorded history.

What does that say of us as a species?

‘”Who?” “What?”“When?” “Where?”“Why?” “How?”

The experiences of pain and suffering are unique and individual. The questions rip through our hearts and minds with…

“Why me?” “Where’s God?” “How can I stand it?”

While this is obviously a good point….It has a bad side effect.

We’re much less realistic now because of it.

Pollyannaism explodes all across the western world… with the marketing of smiling faces everywhere, in a hyper-irrational-optimism.

Most of the evil committed in the 20th century was not done by… the so-called ‘monsters’. Those such as Hitler and Stalin.

It was done by the good, and the ordinary citizens. Those who were simply going off to a days honest work…for a legitimate day’s wage!

Due to the modern processes of simply following orders in the division of labor and organizational roles…the horrors of evil were minimized! Drop a bomb from 35,000 feet? Push a button releasing gas into a large room?

Understanding of the changes –

Marginalizing of traditional categories

In the good old days… there were clearly defined ethical and moral categories.Today… such determinations are not allowed!

In sort of a Promethean way we now proclaim that…“Why…we’re free! There’re no boundaries! No limits!No borders…that we cannot cross!”

In a very real sense it’s now been made clear…that we’ve now made evil…

COOL!

The Eastern Worldview –

Offers a sense of withdrawal and extinguishment from evil-suffering-life….The view is that the world…should never have been!

It’s bad!

There’s no individual meaning or purpose found in life.

The freedom that is offered is not freedom to be… but freedom from being!

Precise knowledge of the options –

The Secular-Materialist Worldview – Offers a sense of direct engagement with evil-suffering-life… Again the view that the world…should never have been!

It’s bad!

There’s no individual meaning or purpose in life.

The only sense of freedom is from interference!

This combined with an understanding, that meaning and purpose…must be individually decided upon.

Precise knowledge of the options –

Abrahamic worldview –

Offers an ‘end of evil’. The view that the world…should have been otherwise!

Existence is not wrong, it has gone wrong. The sense of freedom to be, what we were meant to be!

Providing a clear understanding of absolute meaning and purpose in life for the individual and the community!

And now… may you rest in every good thing that is yours… in your identification with your worldview….
