Welcome to Global Encounters

God is on the move! Do you know it? Do you sense it? Can you see it? Because God is on the move in your life, your families, your neighborhoods, your workplaces, Derwood Alliance Church, your country, and the nations. God is calling you to be a part of his mission! This week as you jump into Global Encounters, you will get a taste of how God is on the move bringing light in the darkness and the good news that Jesus has not only come to rescue us but the world. There are many opportunities this week to hear and participate in what God is doing both here and abroad. So, prayerfully jump in this week and get ready for God to challenge you to pray, give, go, and send people on God’s mission. There is nothing greater than to be a part of God’s mission! Let’s go!

We are pleased to have Christian & Missionary Alliance worker Krista Ellenberger with us February 21-28. Krista received her call to ministry between her freshman and sophomore years of college. She was at Delta Lake Camp when God spoke to her about being an international worker through a person who was speaking on missions while she was there. She currently ministers with her husband, Keith, at the C&MA guest house in Bamako, Mali. Their ministry responsibilities include teaching English at the Go Global Mali Center, hosting visiting teams, and shopping for the needs of other international workers who are not stationed in the capital city. From this past term, two of the most exciting events that occurred were hosting a visiting team that ministered through providing healthcare and evangelism in the villages around the Women’s and Children’s hospital located in Kautiala, Mali and teaching English to Malians at the Go Global Mali Center. Separation as both she and her husband will be on separate assignments

Strength, perseverance, and good health

That enthusiasm for their overseas ministries will overflow so that those to whom she speaks will catch their vision for Mali

And much more We Love Our World Our U.S. family sends and supports over 700 Alliance international workers serving 70 nations. They care for the sick, befriend the lonely, and introduce spiritually impoverished people to the One who releases us all from the curse of sin and the sting of death.

2,597 people groups totaling 199,000,000 individuals have neither Scripture, the Jesus film, nor Christian recordings available in their primary language.

Indonesia has the greatest population of Muslim groups (224,000,000), followed by Pakistan (190,000,000) and India (163,000,000).

Iran is the country with the fastest growing Evangelical population at 19.6% annual growth. (Operation World 2010)

Russia has 64 Muslim people groups, the largest of which is the Tatars, with 5,250,000 people.

Some 65-70% of the world’s population live in religiously restrictive countries.

The four largest Least-Reached people groups are the Shaikh of Bangladesh, Japanese of Japan, the Shaikh of India, and the Yadav of India.

The largest group without even Scripture portions in the primary language is the Jin Chinese of China, population 62,000,000.

How do we fund our missionary commitment? The way we fund missions is through faith promise giving, and during this week, you will receive a faith promise card for the DAC Missions Fund. We encourage you to “get in the game” and support workers from our church and Alliance workers worldwide as they walk through the doors God is opening. Derwood Alliance Church (DAC) Missions Fund is the vehicle we use to support our missionary commitment. The primary beneficiaries of the fund are the international workers of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). A minimum of 90% of the money given to the DAC Missions Fund will be sent to the national office to support the international workers of the C&MA through the Great Commission Fund. Up to 10% will be used to support those from our church who have gone into missions or full time Christian service and to provide additional support to some C&MA international workers with whom we have a special relationship. These are individuals selected by the Missions Team and approved by the Board of Governance. This year those individuals are:

Jesse and Sarah Blaine

Jesse and Sarah are currently in Phnom Penh, Cambodia serving though World Orphans. With the help of the local church, World Orphans seeks to provide care for orphans and vulnerable children.

John and Kelly Kidd

While John is serving as Youth Pastor at their church, Kelly is serving though Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) at James

Madison University where she reaches students through small group and discipleship ministries.

Craig and Bonnie Ward

Craig and Bonnie serve though InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to share

the gospel with international college students studying in schools throughout Illinois and Indiana.

Glossary Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA): the denominational movement of which Derwood Alliance Church is a part. Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA): the relief arm of the C&MA. Creative Access Country (CAC): a country that does not allow others to enter for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Individuals must find other creative platforms to access the people in the country. These may take the form of human relief or marketplace ministries. Derwood Missions Fund: Derwood Alliance Church’s structure for funding missions. At least 90% of the Derwood Missions Fund goes to support the Great Commission Fund. Faith Promise: a financial commitment to give to the Derwood Alliance Missions Fund that you believe God will enable you to fulfill. Great Commission Fund: the C&MA’s financial structure for funding God’s work all around the world. International Workers/Global Partners: people who go to a country not their own for the purpose of doing God’s work. Marketplace Ministry: a business or vocational role that serves the purpose of the business while also serving the purpose of God’s work.
