Queen’s Management School Queen’s Management School is located at Riddel Hall, situated within the Stranmillis Conservation Area adjacent to the main University campus. The site now encompasses a new purpose-built Management School and Postgraduate and Executive Education Centre with conference facilities.

Riddel Hall provides the School with academic and support offices; postgraduate research rooms for students and research fellows; a range of fully equipped teaching facilities with varying capacities from small syndicate rooms to a 120 seat tired lecture theatre; two computer suites; the Trading Room which incorporates 12 Bloomberg terminals; the Placement Office; resource accommodation; flexible space for large group teaching and conference use; and communal support facilities including catering accommodation to encourage social and intellectual interaction.

William J Clinton Leadership Institute Established in 2011, The William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Riddel Hall brings world-class facilities, leading academics and industry experts together to deliver a high end portfolio of executive education and leadership programmes. As specialists in executive education, we are dealing with the highest level of business people and their associated organisations.

The Leadership Institute has become a focal point for world class leadership development and executive education in Northern Ireland and further afield. Through a range of high-end open and bespoke programmes over 500 organisations, from both the private, public and third sectors, have entrusted us with the development of their senior teams.

DIRECTOR OF EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT Role Summary The new Director will be responsible for executive management of Queen’s Management School’s William J Clinton Leadership Institute. Working collaboratively with colleagues, this involves scoping new business development opportunities and leading the development and design of bespoke and custom programmes as well as the delivery of executive education. The role requires strategic consulting capability and the ability to design appropriate leadership development interventions. Reporting to the Head of School the role also involves the establishment of an international brand and reputation for the Institute, making it a market leader for the provision of executive education.

Key Accountabilities • Management and oversight of all aspects of Queen’s Management School’s William J Clinton

Leadership Institute for executive education and its core functions.

• Development and delivery of an ambitious and sustainable business plan for the William J Clinton Leadership Institute, positioning the University as a foremost provider of credit-bearing and bespoke executive education and leadership development in the UK and Ireland, with substantial market activity internationally.

• Maintaining a knowledge of market developments to understand, inform and respond to potential market needs and anticipate future potential demand.

• Acting as a strategic educational consultant for external clients in designing bespoke executive education programmes to meet their professional, organisational and business development needs. Working with the Academic Director and the team of Programme Directors, this includes the development of programme aims, objectives, outcomes, curricula, teaching/learning/assessment strategies and teaching resources.

• Development, delivery and marketing of an extensive credit-bearing and bespoke executive education portfolio – to include the design and delivery of competitive and outstanding leadership and management development programmes.

• Extensive engagement with the Business, Government and Voluntary Sectors, both locally and globally with an ability to build credibility and establish rapport quickly with a senior audience.

• Development of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute brand.

• Building a strong international adjunct international faculty base for the delivery of credit-bearing and bespoke executive education programmes, through networking with international executive education providers.

• Working closely with the wider University to identify new business opportunities, including developing joint programmes that meet clients’ needs.

• Representing Queen’s Management School and the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at local and global events.

Strategy and Operations • Development and delivery of a 5-10 year business plan for the William J Clinton Leadership Institute,

positioning Queen’s Management School as a leading provider of executive education.

• Building the brand and international reputation of the Institute and developing a diverse adjunct faculty base through networking with global executive education providers.

• Identification and delivery of new business opportunities.

• Working with the Academic Director in the development of a portfolio of credit-bearing and bespoke executive education programmes.

• To oversee the operational activity of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute.

Resource Management • Delivery of all aspects of the business plan – to include financial planning and delivery against agreed

outcomes and targets.

• Management of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at QMS.

• Advise and plan for future resource requirements.

Internal/External Stakeholders • Extensive engagement with the Business, Government and Voluntary Sectors, both locally and

globally, in the development of credit-bearing and bespoke executive education programmes.

• Working closely with the Academic Director and Faculty in the School to identify and deliver Executive Education programmes and seek out new business opportunities.

• Building an extensive customer base for the Institute.

• Represent the School both locally and internationally.

PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Criteria

• A degree-level qualification.

• Successful track record in strategic consulting with external business/organisations in order to design development interventions to meet high level professional and organisational development needs.

• Successful track record in building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with external businesses/organisations for the design and delivery of leadership development programmes.

• Track record of designing course materials, planning and organise the delivery and assessment of courses.

• Subject specific knowledge and track record of teaching in areas related to leadership, management, personal effectiveness and learning and development,

• Excellent leadership and project management skills, including the ability to innovate and manage change.

• Ability to think strategically and entrepreneurially to demonstrate commercial acumen while managing risk.

• Detailed understanding and experience of business plans, budgets, joint ventures and relevant risk assessment techniques.

• Commitment to own continuing professional development, especially in work-based and blended learning with the use of digital technologies.

• A proven ability to build successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;

• A proven ability to motivate teams to achieve results and lead teams in the design, development, marketing and delivery of executive education programmes, including client delivery as required;

• A track record of commercial income generation;

• Excellent oral and written communication skills;

• Flexibility and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as required.

Desirable Criteria • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline.

• Higher education teaching qualification or postgraduate degree in Business and Management.

• Membership of a relevant professional body.

• Successful track record in the design and delivery of accredited high education programmes.

• Executive education expertise in the area of strategy and/or commercial awareness.
