Annual
Review 2013
Dear Friends,
Global Fellowship has experienced a memorable year celebrating our 50th
Anniversary and advancing Christ's Kingdom in 68 countries around the
world.
Our annual review shows just a
fraction of work carried out in national, regional and global contexts, but gives
a flavour of the connections created by being part of an international umbrella
of Christian youth organisations.
The theme of our events this year was
"Roots and Routes", looking back at
our common roots and carving out our future routes together. In the same
way we give thanks for a fantastic year and pray that we will enjoy many
more years of success in our future.
Yours in Christ, Adric

Global Events
Young Leaders
Workshop
Felden Lodge UK, 10th - 17th August
A mix between a training course and a
camp with participants from around the world! The young leaders tested their
teambuilding skills, shared games and reflected on their similarities and
differences throughout the week.
Each morning started with the participants creating their own morning
prayers. The varied program included a session with Lord Griffiths, Brigade
President for BB UK & RoI about our role as Christians in society, question and
answer session with the ExCo of Global Fellowship, intercultural dialogue /
discussion techniques, identifying
challenges in their organisations, games and an entertainment evening.
This was the fifth consecutive Young
Leaders Workshop (previous workshops were held in Uganda, Kenya, South Africa
and Ghana).
19 Young
Leaders from 13 countries
participated: Australia

more than 125
people have
attended a Young

Zambia
National secretaries, executive members,
and national post holders spent a week discussing many aspects of the
challenges in youth work that are specific to their contexts and relevant globally.
There were many common areas that
were seen as challenges to youth organisations across the globe, for
example: Recruiting and training adult leaders, achieving financial stability,
developing programs that attract and engage children and young people and
guiding children and young people on their journey with Christ.
Driven by a focus on sharing methods and innovative approaches that could
inspire each other, the program sessions included: True to our roots - Tradition Vs
Development, Technology and Connectivity, Youth Participation and Our
roots in Christ.
Global Events
Jubilee
Celebration
Felden Lodge UK,
11th August
More than 200 people came together on a
sunny Sunday afternoon for a service of thanksgiving marking 50 years of Global
Fellowship.
The Jubilee Celebration had a garden party vibe, with parts of The Boys'
Brigade UK & RoI's archive on display, and a very friendly atmosphere. A brass
band and bagpipes entertained the crowd. Guests included Norman Coltham
who signed the original document in 1963 founding Global Fellowship (then called
World Conference of The Boys' Brigade).
Participants from the Young Leaders
Workshop and General Conference were invited to decorate a table each with
items from their organisations leading to a wonderful display of different styles of
Christian youth work.
The Gathering
More than 600 people around the world joined an online
service on our facebook page, sharing, commenting and
liking pictures, videos and bible verses throughout the
evening. This event was a co-operation with d:church.
International
Junior Section
Team Games We have teamed up with Boys'
Brigade UK & RoI to help bring this international activity to the
local groups of our members.
6 children aged 8-12 years old
complete the same 6 games around the world and compare
the results. This is a brilliant way to bring an international
event to local groups and developing team building skills.
It ends April 2014 - see our website for details.
Regions
Western Caribbean Over 50 officers and boys
enjoyed a regional sports camp in July in The Bahamas with
the theme "I'd rather build a boy than mend a man". Events
included soccer clinic, basketball, first aid, bible knowledge and track & field.
• Western Caribbean • Eastern & Southern
Caribbean • North America and
Bermuda • West Africa
• East Africa • Southern & Central Africa
• Europe • South Asia
• South East Asia • Pacific
Global Fellowship is split into
ten geographical regions, creating Regional Fellowships.
The regions often organise a
variety of activities for young people, leaders and staff
members as well as facilitating the planting of
new youth organisations and supporting existing organisations in the region.
Pacific Following the GF events in
August, members from the Pacific Regional Fellowship held
a weekend gathering on a boat, sailing out of Auckland, New
Zealand to discuss bi-lateral cooperation between Australia
and New Zealand and how to activate the region further.
Eastern & Southern
Caribbean Executive members held their
mid term meeting in October in Antigua. The event included a
reception with the Governor General of Antigua & Barbuda
and a parade service to mark Founders Day.
Europe The region's long running
Easter Course brought together 47 young leaders from 10
countries for a week in Iceland of sharing experiences,
learning and fellowship. One of the many highlights was
arranging an all night activity for 80 local teenagers.
Boys' Brigade Asia Although BB Asia is not
formally part of Global Fellowship, we have fostered
an agreement to cooperate on projects that benefit us both.
In November GF's Chief Executive attended a BB Asia executive meeting in Singapore.
Projects Case study
The Boys' Brigade
Sierra Leone Band Equipment
The replacement of existing
and procurement of new band equipment will enable The
Boys' Brigade in Sierra Leone to operate a full marching
band with current and former members of the BB that will
be used to generate income for the national organisation.
Hiring the band out to lead
processions, thanksgiving celebrations and funerals will
give the organisation the financial resources to create
training courses and a
uniform depot.
Investing in
Organisations
This scheme was specifically
set up to focus on working with organisations so that
they become strong and independent with a clear
vision for their own future.
We break the process down into four key stages:
Stage 1: Setting up
For new member organisations to establish
themselves.
Stage 2: Developing Capacity
To form a national structure and planning for the future.
Stage 3: Achieving Financial
Freedom
To become financially self
sufficient.
Stage 4: Adding Value
Project based support to
make a development to the organisation.

resources
Every week voluntary leaders
are essential in creating programs for organisations
around the world.
Global Fellowship also relies on volunteers and without
their tireless support we would not be able to operate.
We would like to thank the following for their contribution
to GF in 2013:
Bill Bates David Scott
d-church
Leif Rasmussen Lewis Brennan
Lord Griffiths of Burry Port Morten Skrubbeltrang
Nick Taylor Sarah Lane
Stephen Lane Vaughan Staples
We would also like to thank
the outgoing members of our Executive Committee whose
term finished in August 2013
Henry Curry II
Matthew Smith Morton Skov Mogensen
Patrick Tugume
Warm thanks should also go to Chune Ho Hip, our former
CEO who left GF in April
With support from both FDF
Denmark and Global Fellowship, Junior Ministry
were able to create a worship concert for 400 people and a
weekend workshop collecting and composing songs for a
song book.
The organisation also created a cricket and volleyball
competition between local groups and between regions
and aims to hold a workshop developing new games and
creating a games book as a
resource for local groups.
2010-2013
Connected Family
60 Seconds newsletter emailed to more than 700
individuals each month. Our staff and volunteers travelled
to Asia and Pacific to strengthen our connections,
and 9 out of 10 regions were present at our events in Aug.
Capability building
"Investing in Organisations" scheme is in place, but only a
few projects are ongoing. We reconnected with Guyana and
have seen the partnership grow between Sierra Leone and Ghana.
Strategy of Global
Fellowship
2010 - 2013
We have focused on five key areas in the past 3 years with
success in some areas more than others.

Profile
Our Jubilee Celebration and reception at St Paul's
Cathedral in London raised our profile in the UK. We
continue to progress with our online presence and will soon refresh our website.

Sustainability
We have been running on a deficit for the past few years
due to the commitment to create Young Leader
Workshops, however this cannot continue indefinitely
and we need to find ways to increase income to sustain this activity.
Our Sincere Thanks
Global Fellowship would like
to warmly thank those individuals who donated
through The Global Givers scheme. We also thank The
