Dr.DebenhamwasappointedasaconsultantatBirminghamChildren’sHospitalin2005.Hehasheldseniorleadershiprolesdeliveringclinicalserviceimprovementsforoveradecade.
In2011throughto2014Dr.DebenhamparticipatedintheHealthFoundation’s“SaferClinicalSystems”programleadingaprojectteamexploringsafetyofclinicalhandoverthroughtheapplicationofHumanFactorsMethods.

andnearmissesontherenalwardbyinvolvingfamiliesandpatients.’ThisprojectwontheHSJNationalWard2013PatientSafetyandwasshortlistedfortheBMJAwards2014–InnovationTeam.SheisalsoaleadfortheEQuIP(EnablingCliniciansinQualityImprovementandPatientSafety)trainingprogramwhichwasbeennominatedfortheHSJeducationAward2014andNationalPatientSafetyAward2015.In4years,inexcessof200improvementprojectswerecompletedacrossall6qualitydomains.Over£50,000ofsavingswasrealizedthroughoneprojectalone.EQuIPencouragedinnovationandapositivechangeinthecultureoftheNHSbytrainingandsupportingyoungcliniciansintheQIprojects.Individualparticipantshavenotonlyimprovedtheirworking
environmentbutgainedCPDcreditsandhavehadpostersandwonprizesatnationallevelasaresultoftheirwork.LongertermevaluationtodateshowsthatoverathirdofparticipantshavesubsequentlytakenonseniorqualityimprovementandpatientsafetyrolesintheirTrust’s.Dr.HothiisnowamemberoftheHealthFoundation‘Q’InitiativeandCahiroftheEducationStreamforKQUIP,anationalQualityImprovementcollaborativeforkidneydiseases.
