E lectrical engineering(sometimes referred to aselectrical and electronic

engineering) is a semi-professionaland professional engineering discipline thatdeals with the study and/or application ofelectricity, electronics and electromagnet-ism. The field first became an identifiableoccupation in the late nineteenth centuryafter commercialization of the electric tele-graph and electrical power supply. The fieldnow covers a range of sub-studies includingthose that deal with power, electronics, con-trol systems, signal processing and telecom-munications.

The term electrical engineering may ormay not encompass electronic engineering.

Where a distinction is made, electrical engi-neering is considered to deal with the prob-lems associated with large-scale electricalsystems such as power transmission andmotor control, whereas electronic engineer-ing deals with the study of small-scale elec-tronic systems including computers andintegrated circuits. Another way of lookingat the distinction is that electrical engineersare usually concerned with using electricityto transmit energy, while electronics engi-neers are concerned with using electricity totransmit information.

Electrical engineers typically possess an

academic degree with a major inelectrical engineering. The lengthof study for such a degree is usu-ally four or five years and the

completed degree may be designated as aBachelor of Engineering, Bachelor ofScience, Bachelor of Technology orBachelor of Applied Science dependingupon the university. The degree generallyincludes units covering physics, mathemat-ics, computer science, project managementand specific topics in electrical engineer-ing. Initially such topics cover most, if notall, of the sub-disciplines of electrical engi-neering. Students then choose to specializein one or more sub-disciplines towards theend of the degree.

A scientist approachesGod, and says toHim, "Look, God,

we don't need you anymore.Nowadays, we can do allsorts of things that used to beconsidered miraculous. Wecan transplant organs, givingnew life to a dying man, wecan cure almost any disease, and we can even clone ani-mals. It won't be long, and

we'll be able to clone humans, too. So, I'm sorry, but you arejust outdated".

God listens patiently to thescientist and says, "I can seethat you believe you don'tneed me, and I understand. However, I love you, and Idon't want to see you make abig mistake, so why don't wemake sure? I say we shouldhave a man-making contest,

just to be sure. The scientist replies, "I'll

take that challenge". So, Godsays, "Ok, let's do it the way Idid it in the old days, withAdam and Eve". The scientistssays, "No problem", andreaches down to scoop up ahandful of dirt.
