Globalia Newsletter March 2020Message from the President

Dear Members,

Presenting you the first edition of Globalia’s quarterly newsletters of 2020! In the first place, I would like to inform you once again that Globalia’s 4th Annual Meeting has been postponed to the month of October 2020 because of the ever-growing problem of

the coronavirus outbreak in so many parts of the world. Considering the present situation and the emergency measures being adopted worldwide, we thought it best to postpone the meeting from March to October by when we expect things to change for the better.

In this newsletter, you can read about all the latest news from your network partners along with interesting news and snippets relating to the supply chain industry. Green logistics has become a trendsetter and a catchphrase for environment conscious people in the industry. Even some of our members are taking substantial steps in this direction. This is why we have included a short post about ‘How the Multinationals are Embracing Green Logistics in 2020’. Check out the ‘Tips from Neena’s section to find out how phishing emails have become a threat to our businesses and how we can easily detect them before they do any harm to our system or finances.

I would like to remind you once again to keep the flame of cooperation alive so as to augment the business opportunities both for you and your network partners. Lastly, if you have a news to share with all the network members, make sure to write to us. Our PR department will create a promotional news about your company which will be published on our website as well as our upcoming newsletter!

Have a healthy and productive time until we meet again in the month of October!

Kind regards

YOYO GLOBAL FREIGHT IS EXPANDING THEIR WAREHOUSE FACILITY IN DENMARKAs a major step towards green logistics, they have fitted this new warehouse building with solar panels on the roofYoyo Global Freight, Globalia member in Stavanger, Norway, and Copenhagen / Odense, Denmark, has expanded its state-of-the-art warehousing facility in Denmark. Back in 2018, they built their new headquarters in Odense and their initial objective was to create two more terminals by 2021. However, uninterrupted growth and a greater number of domestic and international clients necessitated further storage space in their warehouse in Odense. This is the reason why they built two new terminals which gave them nearly 6000 square meters of total warehouse facility.

“As a Gazelle Company which has doubled the turnover within just 4 years, it was imperative for us to expand our storage space to meet the requirements of our ever-increasing number of clients.” says Mr. Lenart Lykkedal Pedersen, Agent Relation Manager of YOYO Global Freight. Their new solar-powered facility is already completely filled with new warehouse clients. Mr. Pedersen further adds, “The new building is fitted with solar panels on the roof and the power is used for the building and for the electrical car parking available for all our employees. This has been a remarkable triumph for our team since it is also an important step towards sustainable logistics.”

GLOBALIA MANILA IN CHARGE OF HANDLING THE LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A WATERPARK IN AN ISLAND IN PHILIPPINESGateway Logistics Inc was responsible for the multimodal transport of waterpark equipment from local and international suppliersGateway Logistics Inc., Globalia member in Manila, Philippines, is presently undertaking an ongoing project delivery from Bataan in the North of Manila to Caticlan, an island located in the South of Manila close to the Boracay Island. To begin with, a cargo of 135 FEU was awarded to Globalia Manila and now the project is already halfway to completion.

“We are in charge of multimodal transportation of waterpark equipment from local and international suppliers.” says Jonas Ventura, the Marketing and Operations Manager of Gateway Logistics.

Mr. Ventura further adds, “This is surely a very demanding assignment which is being carried on impeccably by our team. We are yet to receive more shipments from international suppliers and we are all set to execute this project flawlessly. With nearly two decades of hands-on experience, our partners can always turn to us for all their logistical requirements in and around Manila, Philippines.”

THE MOST UPDATED VERSION OF INCOTERMS 2020 CAN NOW BE VIEWED AND DOWNLOADED FROM THE GLOBALIA WEBSITE

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has launched Incoterms 2020 which have come into effect from 1st January 2020

The Globalia team has updated and uploaded the PDF of a new brochure with the most updated version of the Incoterms rules launched by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The Globalia Incoterms brochure has been modernised with a fresh and simplified design for members to present their own clients.

This brochure enumerates the liabilities of the buyers and sellers in international trade according to the new Incoterms rules which have come into effect from 1st January 2020. The Incoterms rules were first laid down back in 1936 by ICC with the objective of establishing a set of globally accepted rules and regulations with regards to shipment delivery among trading partners worldwide. Since then the Incoterms rules have been periodically amended and the Incoterms 2020 offers detailed notes and graphs elucidating the liabilities of exporters and importers for each of the Incoterms rule.

As explained by Mr. John WH Denton AO, the Secretary General of Incoterms, “Incoterms 2020 rules make business work for everyone by facilitating trillions of dollars in global trade annually. Because they help importers and exporters around the world to understand their responsibilities and avoid costly misunderstandings, the rules form the language of international sales transactions, and help build confidence in our valuable global trading system.”

Members can download the new brochure by clicking here.

Sector News

Global expenditure on drones and robotics technology might reach an all-time high of $128.7 billion in 2020. Out of this amount, a whopping $112.4 billion will be spent in the field of robotics alone. IDC further suggests that this amount will grow to $241.4 billion within the next two years. It is being predicted that pick and pack robots will constitute 9.6% of the market share and discrete manufacturing will comprise almost half of the total spending on robotics. In the words of Apple CEO Tim Cook, “We are disassembling, recycling or refurbishing millions of devices every year with the help of Daisy, our recycling robot, and we’re pushing the entire global supply chain toward recycled or renewable materials.”

Amazon, which is currently using over 100,000 robotic drive systems in their fulfilment centres all across the globe, has stated their ultimate goal of a ‘lights out’ warehouse which won’t need any human workers. They are also investing $40 million on a robotics research unit which they say will soon become the “epicentre of robotics innovation”. However, this can be a significant cause for concern for the workers since the robots would most likely displace the most vulnerable laborers who will now be required to find other jobs at a lower ware.

Expenditure on robotics is foreseen to exceed $112B in 2020 according to International Data CorporationSeveral big manufacturing and retail companies have already underlined the use of robotics in 2019

HOW MULTINATIONALS ARE EMBRACING GREEN LOGISTICS IN 2020

The idea of introducing sustainability to the supply chain industry is not exactly new and more and more multinationals are now trying to create and nurture a green and sustainable logistical operation for the benefit of the environment. The future of the earth and the protection of the environment are currently two of the most discussed topics among the governing bodies all around the globe and climate change, rising fuel costs and the alarm over greenhouse gas emission are some of the factors prompting corporate houses to adopt a supply chain strategy which emphasizes the need for reduced pollution, energy, and dumping of waste.

Let us now take a quick look at how some of the multinational companies are working together to enforce ‘green’ in their businesses.

A joint sustainability programme has been created by BASF, Evonik Industries, Henkel, Bayer, Lanxess and Solvay called ‘Together for Sustainability’ which intends to develop and implement an international supplier engagement agenda for the assessment and enhancement of the sourcing practices of the chemical industry. According to Gabrielle Unger, the General Manager of Together for Sustainability, this programme “aims to create synergies so that resources can be used more efficiently and with minimal administrative effort. This is one important factor why we are cited as a benchmark for industry collaboration for sustainable supply chains.”

Maersk has always been a leader in this field since its green supply chain strategy initiated way back in 2007 has resulted in a 25% reduction in carbon emissions! Numerous everyday household brands are also being quick to adopt a green supply chain strategy.

TIPSfrom Neena

In this section Neena, our Agent Coordinator, will share a few tips for identifying phishing or spoofing emails that have become a menace in recent times

So always make sure that you verify the bank details of your partner to whom you owe a payment by talking to them directly on the phone. Otherwise, your payment gets received by some cyber-criminal and you’d need to make a double payment.

09...

As more and more businesses are embracing digitization and started relying more on web-based communications, the incidences of cybercrime have also increased like never before. Even some of the biggest multinational companies like Google and Facebook were victims of cyber crime and these days businesses of all kinds and sizes are being targeted by cyber criminals.

There have been a few instances where members received an email apparently coming from another member that was not actually mailed by them but by somebody else who is using their name. In these emails they talk about a change in their bank details and direct the recipient to make the payment to the new bank details provided by them.

Moreover never give out any sensitive information about your company no matter from where the email is coming from. Keep in mind that no legit organization will send you emails where they ask for passwords, account information, credit card scores and the like.

If the email contains suspicious links just hover your mouse over the link to check the address and in case it looks shady do not click on it.

Make sure to inform all your employees about identifying these sorts of emails and in case you receive suspicious emails with the name of any of our network members make sure to talk to that member and send us an alert!
