GLOSSARY OF

COMPUTING

GLOSSARY

SOFTWARE: The word "software" refers to the logical equipment or software of a digital

computer, and includes all the necessary software components to enable the completion of a

specific task, as opposed to the physical components of the system (hardware) .

HARDWARE: corresponds to all physical and tangible parts of a computer: your electrical, electronic,

electromechanical and mechanical components; cables, cabinets or boxes, peripherals of all kinds and any other

physical element involved

CPU: CPU, short for Central Processing Unit (central processing unit), pronounced as separate letters. The

CPU is the brains of the computer. It is sometimes referred to simply as the processor or central processor, the

CPU is where most calculations take place. In terms of computer power, the CPU is the most important element

of a computer system.

MEMORY CARD: A memory card or flash memory card is a storage device that stores data that has been

stored correctly even with the loss of energy; if, it is a nonvolatile memory.

GLOSSARY

KEYBOARD: In computing, a keyboard is an input device or device, partly inspired keyboard typewriters,

which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys, that I act as mechanical levers or electronic switches that send

information to the computer

MOUSE: The mouse or mouse (English, pronounced [maʊs] in that language) is a pointing device used to facilitate the

management of a graphical interface on a computer or computer in America in Spain. It is usually made of plastic, and is used

with one hand. Detecting relative motion in two dimensions by the flat surface on which is supported, usually reflected by a

pointer or arrow on the monitor.

Pantallla O MONITOR: The monitor or computer screen, although it is also common to call "screen" is an output

device through an interface, shows the results of processing a computer.

Sound Card: A sound card is an expansion card that allows the computer to the audio input and output so regulated and

controlled by a computer program called driver. The use of sound cards is based on the multimedia field, ie, all those

applications that require the emission of sound, such as video games, production and composition, video editors, ...

GLOSSARY

Video Card: A graphics card or video card is a printed circuit board responsible for transforming the electrical signals

coming from the microprocessor into information understandable and representable by the computer screen.

BINARY: a numbering system in which numbers are represented using only numbers and one zero (0 and 1). It is one

that is used in computers, because they work internally with two voltage levels, so naturally their system is the binary

numbering system (ignition 1 0 off).

HEXADECIAML: the positional numbering system is based on 16 Its current use is closely linked to computing and

computer science because computers typically use byte or octet as the basic unit of memory..

OCTAL: The numbering system is called base 8 and using octal digits 0 to 7

WORD: es un software destinado al procesamiento de textos.

EXCEL: a distributed Microsoft Office spreadsheet application. This program is developed and distributed by

Microsoft, and is commonly used in financial and accounting tasks.

POWER POINT: is a program that allows presentations, and is widely used areas of business and education. Using data

show projectors or in conjunction with this software, makes this system the optimal way to communicate ideas.

GLOSSARY

INTERNET: "network of networks", if, a network that interconnects not only computers but

interconnecting computer networks together. • A computer network is a set of machines that communicate

through a medium (coaxial cable, optical fiber, radio, telephone lines, etc..) In order to share resources.

LINK: Element of an electronic document to automatically access another document or another part of the

WINDOWS: is an operating system, ie, a set of programs that enables the management of the resources of a

computer.

PRINTER: A machine that connects to a computer and electronics used to print the selected information

contained in it

WIFI Wi-Fi is a mechanism for connecting electronic devices wirelessly. The Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as a

personal computer, a game console, a smartphone or digital audio player can connect to the Internet through an

access point.

GLOSSARY

USB: A USB memory (Universal Serial Bus) is a storage device that uses flash memory to store such

information.

STABILIZER: A voltage stabilizer is an electronic or electromechanical equipment, designed to give a

stabilized voltage at its output (230 Volt or 380 Volt), although its input voltage is lower or higher value use.

SPEAKERS: The speaker is a device used to play sound from an electronic device. It is also called speaker,

speaker, speaker, speaker, loudspeaker.

OPERATING SYSTEM: Set of commands and programs that control the basic processes of a computer and

allow operation of other programs.

"The operating system is MS-DOS computer“.
