Betawiki

A localisation and an internationalisation project using MediaWiki for its environment

Localising MediaWiki at Betawiki ensures that your work is available everywhere

Localising is a requirement for new projects

We need your support, we are not afraid to ask for it

We have some funding for localisation of African, Asian and South American languages

Betawiki future

We are improving our gettext support

this allows people to work off-line

this allows us to localise for other software

Our value is in the large number of languages we have translators for

as we learn more about specific languages, the lessons learned will benefit more applications

when we know identical strings to be identical, we can apply them automatically

with more applications supported, we will be able to standardise terminology in a language

OmegaWiki

Lexical, terminological and ontological resource that shows information in your language

Core is that a concept is defined once and translations are sought for the term involved

The amount of data needs to be bigger to be useful for most languages / applications

Wikiprofessional

An environment to leverage information from Pubmed, databases and Wikis

helps cope with vast amount of data

brings together data from many sources

is multi disciplinary

allows for the ambiguity of terminology

will be multi lingual

Portuguese and Spanish are being developed

allows for the sharing and globalisation of knowledge

OmegaWiki mark II

A paradigm shift away from OmegaWiki

distributed database but sharing terminology

global, regional and local data allowing for any application

multiple applications served by the same data

database layer strictly separated from the application layer

the application is served by XML data

Allows for OmegaWiki mark II to be used by a MediaWiki extension

Commons

Wikimedia Commons is only usable by people who speak English

The terminology used in categories is typically easy to translate

When the categories and the category tree can be shown in multiple languages, and the categories searched, Commons is open to any language .. just add translations
