In an effort to help our fellow Huskers joining us in Evanston for the Nebraska @ Northwestern Game, Chicagoans for Nebraska have put together some tips and suggestions to

make your trip to Chicago and Evanston to watch the Huskers play on October 20th a memorable one.

TICKETS:  Single  game  tickets  for  the  game  are  SOLD  OUT.  (Mainly  to  Nebraska  fans,  which  we  are  very  proud  and  excited  about!)  To  check  other  options,  visit  the  Northwestern  Ticket  Office  website  www.nusports.com/tickets/    

ARRIVING  IN  CHICAGO  BY  AIR,  TRAIN,  AND  BUS:  Chicago  is  served  by  two  airports  -­‐  Midway  and  O’Hare.  Downtown  and  Evanston  are  accessible  from  both  airports  by  the  Chicago  Transit  Authority  (CTA)  “El”  train…Midway  by  the  Orange  Line,  and  O’Hare  by  the  Blue  Line.  Follow  signs  for  ‘CTA  trains  to  City’  and  visit  www.transitchicago.com/  for  more  info  on  train  schedules,  fares,  etc.    All  stops  are  equipped  with  ticket  vending  machines  to  purchase  fare  cards.    Chicago  Amtrak  service  and  bus  service  (including  Megabus)  is  served  by  Union  Station,  located  in  the  downtown  “Loop”  area.  CTA  transportation  is  available  from  Union  Station  via  the  Blue  Line  Clinton  stop.      

WHERE  TO  STAY:  Chicago  offers  MANY  hotel  options.  If  staying  in  the  city,  most  hotels  are  located  in  the  Loop  and  River  North  sections  of  downtown.  Some  popular  hotels  with  fans  coming  to  town  are  The  Sheraton  www.sheratonchicago.com/  and  The  Wit  www.thewithotel.com/.    The  Loop  and  River  North  are  served  by  all  CTA  train  lines  and  offer  many  attractions  for  sightseeing,  shopping,  and  dining  and  nightlife.      

ATTRACTIONS:  Chicago  has  tons  of  great  things  to  do  and  see.  Here  is  a  list  of  the  most  popular  attractions:  -­‐Navy  Pier~Chicago  Children’s  Museum,  sightseeing  and  architecture  cruises,  dining,  Ferris  wheel  -­‐Willis  Tower,  formerly  known  and  the  Sears  Tower  -­‐  Skydeck  viewing  platform  -­‐John  Hancock  Building-­‐  Signature  Room  for  dining  and  cocktails,  viewing  deck  (best  sky  high  view  of  Chicago,  in  our  opinion)  -­‐Chicago  Field  Museum  -­‐  natural  history  at  it’s  best…including  a  T-­‐Rex  named  Sue…though  we  still  prefer  our  Rex  and  Suh!  -­‐Science  and  Industry  Museum~explore  a  German  WWII  sub,  trains,  planes,  automobiles,  a  coal  mine,  and  see  how  a  tornado  forms  -­‐Adler  Planetarium  -­‐Shedd  Aquarium

If  you  plan  on  doing  more  than  one  of  the  above,  it’s  worth  checking  out  www.citypass.com/Chicago,  where  you  can  buy  passes  to  several  attractions  at  a  discount.  -­‐Michigan  Avenue-­‐  some  of  the  world’s  best  shopping  -­‐State  Street-­‐  what  we  like  to  call  “  normal  shopping”…more  of  your  typical  mall  stores  -­‐Wrigley  Field  -­‐  just  take  the  Red  Line  up  to  Addison  and  you  can’t  miss  it!    

DINING:  If  you  are  looking  for  deep  dish  pizza,  you’re  in  luck!  Here  is  a  list  of  some  Chicago  staples,  as  well  as  a  few  more  upscale  options.  - Gino’s  East~deep  dish  pizza  - UNO  Pizza~  Gino’s  rival  - Lou  Malnati’s~  yet  another  deep  dish  option  - Portillo’s  Hotdogs~  Chicago  Dogs…don’t  ask  for  ketchup!  - Harry  Carey’s~  named  after  the  legendary  Cubs  announcer,  a  great  steak  house  and  bar  - Chicago  Chop  House  - Gibson’s  - Chicago  Cut  Steakhouse  

 

NIGHTLIFE:  Chicago  does  many  things  well,  and  one  of  those  is  the  bar  scene.  Even  though  you  pretty  much  can’t  go  wrong,  here  are  a  few  of  our  favorite  areas  to  celebrate  a  Husker  victory  in,  as  well  as  a  list  of  our  Official  Chicagoans  for  Nebraska  watchsite  bars.    -­‐River  North  -­‐  offers  many  great  upscale  sports  bars,  lounges,  and  restaurants…Hubbard  Street  and  the  surrounding  blocks  have  some  of  Chicagos  most  popular  and  trendy  places  to  have  a  drink.    A  few  of  our  faves  are  Rockit,  Bull  and  Bear,  Public  House,  Howl  at  the  Moon,  Paris  Club,  English,  La  Salle  Power  and  Light,  and  Moe’s  Cantina.    -­‐Gold  Coast  -­‐  just  north  of  River  North,  a  great  upscale  neighborhood  for  a  Martini  or  cocktail  and  to  see  and  be  seen    -­‐Wrigleyville  –  hop  on  the  Red  Line  up  to  Addison  and  you’re  in  the  heart  of  it…all  the  sports  bars  you  could  ask  for  plus  more…we  think  of  it  as  our  version  of  O  Street.    Some  of  our  faves  are  Rockwood  (  a  Husker  bar!),  Houndstooth  Saloon,  The  Cubby  Bear,  and  Sluggers.    -­‐Lincoln  Park/Bucktown-­‐Wicker  Park  Neighborhoods:  If  you’re  looking  to  get  out  of  downtown  and  the  tourist/trendy  side,  these  are  two  neighborhoods  that  can’t  be  beat.  Both  accessible  by  the  CTA  (Lincoln  Park  by  the  Red,  Brown,  and  Purple  Lines,  Bucktown/Wicker  Park  by  the  Blue  Line.)  Lincoln  Ave.  near  DePaul’s  campus  in  Lincoln  Park  and  Division  Street  in  Wicker  Park  are  two  of  our  favorites  areas  for  a  late  dinner  and  drinks.

FRIDAY  NIGHT  BEFORE  THE  GAME:  Chicagoans  for  Nebraska  would  like  to  welcome  all  Husker  Fans  to  Chicago  by  hosting  a  Paint  Chicago  Red  Party  on  Friday  the  19th  at  Sidebar,  located  in  River  North  near  the  corner  of  LaSalle  and  Wacker.  We  have  reserved  the  bar  starting  at  7  pm  and  would  love  to  have  you  join  us  for  some  local  beer  specials  and  to  get  us  in  the  Husker  Spirit!!!!

Getting  to/Transportation  to  Evanston  and  Ryan  Field: CTA:  Ride  the  Purple  CTA  line  to  the  Central  Street  train  station,  2  blocks  east  of  Ryan  Field.  Parking  is  available  at  both  the  Howard  and  Linden  Stations.  

Metra:  The  Central  Street  Metra  Station  is  also  conveniently  located  2  blocks  to  the  west  of  Ryan  Field  at  1601  Central  Street.  Fare  varies.  

Pace  Bus:  Pace's  Northwestern  Ryan  Field  Express  swiftly  moves  fans  from  the  FREE  Schaumburg  Park-­‐n-­‐Ride  (near  Woodfield  Mall)  to  Ryan  Field,  arriving  at  the  game  1  hour  before  kickoff.  Take  a  fast  ride  and  leave  plenty  of  time  for  tailgating  for  just  $4  each  way,  per  person.  Routes  213  and  250  also  provide  service  to  Northwestern  for  $1.75  each  way,  per  person.

Football  Parking  &  Directions  

Parking  -­‐There  is  no  day-­‐of-­‐game  parking  at  Ryan  Field.  Street  parking  around  the  stadium  is  extremely  limited,  and  violators  will  be  towed.  -­‐If  you  do  not  have  a  season  parking  permit,  proceed  to  the  designated  campus  and  city  parking  lots  to  avoid  congestion.  The  east  and  west  side  stadium  lots  are  reserved  for  season  ticket  holders  only.  -­‐There  are  many  free  parking  lots.  Please  see  the  map  for  specific  campus  and  city  parking  lot  locations.    

Directions  -­‐  Getting  to  the  Game  From  the  North:  Take  I-­‐94  to  Skokie  Blvd/  Route  41  Exit.  Exit  ramp  becomes  Skokie  Boulevard.  Continue  south  to  Lake  Avenue  (2nd  traffic  light).  Turn  left  on  Lake  Avenue  and  proceed  east  to  Sheridan  Road  and  continue  south  to  football  parking  lots.  

From  the  South:  Take  I-­‐90/94.  Where  I-­‐90  and  I-­‐94  split,  take  I-­‐94  towards  Milwaukee.  Follow    I-­‐94  to  Dempster  Street  east  and  proceed  east  on  Dempster  Street  to  Chicago  Avenue.  Turn  left  onto  Chicago  Avenue  and  proceed  north  to  football  parking  lots.  

Alternate  Route  from  the  South:  Take  Lake  Shore  Drive  north  to  Sheridan  Road.  Continue  north  on  Sheridan  Road  until  you  arrive  at  the  Evanston  Campus.  Proceed  to  the  football  parking  lots.

From  the  West/  O'Hare  Airport:  Take  I-­‐55,  I-­‐88  or  I-­‐90  to  I-­‐294.  Follow  I-­‐294  north  to  Dempster  Street  east.  Proceed  east  on  Dempster  Street  to  Chicago  Avenue.  Turn  left  on  Chicago  Avenue  and  proceed  north  to  football  parking  lots.  

Alternate  Exit  from  I-­‐294  and  I-­‐94:  Take  Touhy  Avenue  east  and  proceed  to  McCormick  Boulevard.  Turn  left  on  McCormick  Boulevard  and  proceed  north  to  Dempster  Street.  Turn  right  on  Dempster  Street  and  proceed  east  to  Forest  Avenue.  Turn  left  on  Forest  Avenue  and  proceed  north  to  football  parking  lots.  

Free  NU  Shuttle  Bus  Service  -­‐Free  Shuttle  Buses  provide  transportation  from  the  campus  and  city  parking  lots  to  two  conveniently  located  stadium  stops.  -­‐Free  shuttle  buses  run  continually  beginning  two  (2)  hours  prior  to  kick  off  until  approximately  one  (1)  hour  after  the  end  of  the  game.  -­‐After  the  game,  Shuttles  going  to  downtown  Evanston  lots  will  pick  up  on  Ashland,  NORTH  of  Walker  Way  (closer  to  Isabella).  Shuttles  going  to  the  NU  campus  lots  will  pick  up  on  Ashland  SOUTH  of  Walker  Way  (closer  to  Central.)    Charter  Bus  Regulations      The  City  of  Evanston  provides  free  parking  for  charter  buses  for  all  Northwestern  University  home  football  games  at  Ryan  Field.  All  buses  must  enter  Ashland  Avenue  from  Central  Street  and  proceed  north.  Discharge  passengers  on  the  east  side  of  the  street  at  the  stadium.    The  major  streets  at  the  stadium  are  closed  temporarily  to  vehicular  traffic  at  the  end  of  the  game  due  to  the  large  number  of  fans  walking  east  from  the  stadium.  Buses  must  stay  in  the  lot  until  15  minutes  after  the  end  of  the  game.  Staff  at  the  lot  will  release  buses  at  the  appropriate  time.  This  allows  the  majority  of  pedestrians  to  clear  the  stadium  area  before  the  buses  return  (about  30  minutes  after  the  end  of  the  game).  Buses  returning  early  are  a  hazard  and  will  not  be  allowed  in  the  stadium  area.
