FOREWORD

Wars, battles, or skirmishes were engaged in by native ALmericans and settlersinterested in sharing the same landscape for much of the four hundred y3ars,ending with the first decade of this century. Treaties were a matter ofconvenience. Theni, as fow, the military served as an instrument of policy.

This number, in our irregularly issued bibliography series, presents book andperiodical article citations written about the major conflicts. They providedetails which relate to terrorist activities as there was seldom a prescribedfield of battle and little time to organize for tactics. The citations arefollowed by a chronological items index which is keyed to the book or article. Finally, there i; a list of Regular Army National Guard combat units which areauthorized US Army flag streamers. Years of specific citation are indicated ifidentified in the lineage sources.
