The Bible Story

Isaiah 6

BIBLE STORY FOR TODDLERSIsaiah saw the Lord God sitting on a high throne. Angels were standing above God, and they called out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts! His glory fills the whole earth!” The temple filled with smoke. Isaiah was afraid. He said, “I am in trouble! I am not holy, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord!” One of the angels touched Isaiah’s mouth with a hot coal from the altar in the temple. Then the Lord said, “Who should I send? Who will go for Us?” Isaiah said, “Here I am. Send me.” God told Isaiah to tell people God’s words. We can read God’s message to Isaiah in the Bible.

Babies Activities

LOOK IN THE BIBLEProvide hand-size Bibles for babies to handle. Open your Bible to Isaiah 6. Show the Bible story picture as you say the Gospel Gems in a soothing voice. Read the key passage card. SAY: God called Isaiah to be a prophet. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD,

and Jesus showed people God’s glory! [Pray for the babies.]

SING A SONGSing to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” :“ One, one, only one—there is just one God! He made us, and He is our Lord. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD!”

SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. Isaiah saw God the King on His throne, and he praised God!

MAKE HANDPRINT CROWNSPaint babies’ four fingers with washable yellow paint. Help them place their hands onto heavyweight paper. Wipe hands immediately. Add adhesive jewels to the crowns, but make sure babies do not put them in their mouths. Set artwork aside to dry.SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. Isaiah saw God the King on His throne! Later Jesus showed people God’s glory.

LOOK IN A MIRRORSit a baby on your lap or on his tummy with a non-breaking mirror. Point out the baby’s unique features. Remind him of God’s love.SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD who made [baby’s name] and loves [baby’s name]. God called Isaiah to be a prophet, and God has a plan for [baby’s name] too!

Check diapers, serve bottles if needed, and release babies to parents according to your church’s security guidelines. Give parents today’s big picture card. Repeat the Gospel Gems and Bible-learning activities for babies who stay a second hour.

Toddler Activities

CIRCLE TIME (5 MINUTES) Provide small Bibles for toddlers to handle. Read the key passage card. Open your Bible to Isaiah 6. Show the Bible story picture. Say the Gospel Gems or Main Point. Pray for the toddlers.

MAKE NAME ARTUse painter’s tape to write a child’s name on heavyweight paper. Provide watercolor paints, paintbrushes, and smocks for toddlers to paint. Set aside the paintings to dry. Once dry, remove the tape.SAY: God called Isaiah to be a prophet. Prophets tell people God’s words. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. You can tell others about God too!

SCATTER AND SENDInvite toddlers to spread out. One at a time, call a toddler’s name and invite her to respond, “Here I am!” Help her find a friend and say, “God loves you.” SAY: God called Isaiah to be a prophet. Isaiah told people about God. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. Jesus showed people God’s glory.

PICK UP “COAL”Provide rubber-tipped tongs for toddlers to pick up rolled black socks or wads of black construction paper.SAY: Isaiah saw God the King on His throne. An angel touched Isaiah’s lips with coal. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD.

EXAMINE “SMOKE”Print the “Make Smoke Instructions” before class and gather the supplies. Carefully read and follow safety precautions for handling dry ice in a well-ventilated room. Toddlers may not touch the ice.SAY: Smoke filled the temple when Isaiah saw God the King. THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD!

TRANSITION ACTIVITY: BUILD A THRONEInvite toddlers to build a throne using blocks, chairs and blankets, and other building supplies. Make sure toddlers do not build higher than shoulder level.SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. Isaiah saw God the King on His throne in all His glory. God called Isaiah to be a prophet. A prophet tells people God’s words. Later, Jesus showed people God’s glory.

SING A SONGSing to the tune “Mary Had a Little Lamb” :“ Holy, holy is the Lord, is the Lord, is the Lord! Holy, holy is the Lord. He alone is God.”

SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. Isaiah saw God the King on His throne. Later, Jesus showed people God’s glory.

FOLLOW THE LEADERInvite toddlers to line up behind you and follow you around the room. Tiptoe, pump your legs and arms, or twirl as you march.SAY: THERE IS ONE TRUE GOD. God called Isaiah to be a prophet. Isaiah did what God told him to do. Isaiah told people God’s words. Later, Jesus showed people God’s glory.

Check diapers, serve a snack if needed, and release toddlers to parents according to your church’s security procedures. Give parents today’s big picture card to reinforce today’s Bible story, Main Point, or Gospel Gems throughout the week.
