    I. The Vision of the Dry Bones

An amazed Ezekiel saw dry bones in a valley suddenlyreassemble themselves.

The bones became covered with muscles, flesh andskin.

God explained the meaning of this vision. Someday He will bring life back into Israel and bring

    them back into their land.

    II. Jairus Daughter

Jairus, a synagogue leader, approached Jesus. He begged Jesus to come and heal his dying daughter. Jesus attention was diverted as He healed a woman

    with a hemorrhage.

Jairus received a report that his daughter had justdied.

Jesus reassured Jairus to trust in Him. Peter, James, and John followed Jesus to Jairus home. Jesus encountered many people weeping outside Jairus

    house.

Jesus was ridiculed when He said the child was onlyasleep.

Jesus ordered the girl to rise. Jairus daughter was raised from the dead. Her parents were amazed at Jesus power. Jesus commanded her parents not to tell anyone what

    A Valley of Dry Bones

The LORD took hold of Ezekiel and carried him away to a

valley filled with bones. The Lord led Ezekiel around among the

old, dry bones that covered the valley floor. They were scatteredeverywhere across the ground.

Ezekiel writes about his experience in this valley:

Then the LORD asked me, Can these bones become living

people again? O Sovereign LORD, I replied, You alone know the

answer to that. Then He said to me, Speak to these bones and

say, Dry bones, listen to the Word of the Lord. I the Lord am

going to breathe into you and make you live again! I will put fleshand muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into

you, and you will come to life. Then you will know I am the LORD.

Suddenly as I spoke these words, there was a rattling noise all

across the valley. The bones of each body came together and

attached themselves as they had been before. Then as I watched,

muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to

cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them. Then He

said to me, Speak to the winds and say: This is what the

Sovereign LORD says: Come, O breath, from the four winds!

Breathe into these dead bodies so that they may live again.

Then as I spoke the word of the Lord the bones all came to

life and stood up on their feeta great army of them. Then the

Lord spoke to me and said, Son of man, these bones represent the

    people of Israel.

The Lord continued to say: I will open the graves of exile andcause My people to rise again. Then I will bring My people back to

the land of Israel. When this happens, My people, you will know

    that I am the LORD.

Jesus heals the daughter of a synagogue leader

When Jesus went back across to the other side of the lake, a

large crowd gathered around Him on the shore. A leader of thelocal synagogue, whose name was Jairus, came and fell down before

Him, pleading with Him to heal his little daughter. She is about to

die, he said in desperation. Please come and place your hands on

her so that she would be healed and she will live.

As Jesus went with Jairus, a group on people followed along

pressing on all sides of Him. As He continued along His way Jesus

felt someone touch Him in a way in which He felt the power gofrom Him. As Jesus looked around He asked Who touched Me?

The disciples were perplexed because there were so many people

around, anyone could have touched Jesus they thought. But Jesus

kept looking around to see who had done it. Then a frightened

woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her,

came and fell at His feet and told Jesus what she had done.

This woman had a hemorrhage for many years. She had

suffered a great deal and she had heard about Jesus, so she came

up behind Him through the crowd and touched the fringe of His

clothing. For she thought to herself, If I could only just touch

His clothing, I would be healed. Immediately the bleeding

stopped, and she could feel that she had been healed!

Jesus, full of love and compassion exclaimed, Daughter, your

faith has made you well. Go in peace. You have been healed.

While He was still speaking to her, messengers arrived fromJairus home with the message, Your daughter is dead. Theres no

use troubling the Teacher now. But Jesus continued on His way to

Jairus house. He looked at Jairus and said, Dont be afraid. Just

    trust Me.

Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldnt let anyone go with Him

except Peter, James, and John. As they came upon Jairus house,

Jesus saw much commotion. There were many who were full ofgrief and they were wailing for they thought that Jairus daughter

    was dead.

He went inside and spoke to the people. Why all this weeping

and commotion? He asked. The child isnt dead; she is only

asleep. The crowd in disbelief laughed. They made fun of Jesus

statement. He told them all to go outside. Then He took Jairus

and his wife along with His three disciples Peter, James, and John

into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand, He said

to her, Get up, little girl! And the girl, who was twelve years old,

immediately stood up and walked around! Her parents were

absolutely overwhelmed that their daughter was alive. Jesus

commanded them not to tell anyone what had happened, and He

instructed them to give her something to eat.

    I. The Book of Psalms

Many different authors wrote these Psalms. King David was one of these authors. The Psalms are books of worship songs. King David delighted in Gods Word.

    II. Mary & Martha

Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of God. Jesus visited the home of Mary and Martha. The diligent student (Mary) sat at the feet of Jesus. The dutiful servant (Martha) was busy in the kitchen. Martha asked Mary to help her. Martha asked Jesus to intervene on her behalf. Jesus gave counsel to the sisters.

    1. God wants them to delight in His Word.2.Gods desire is for them to read His Word.3.Gods Word will bring joy to their life.4.Many of the Psalms were written as expressions of

delight and joy unto the Lord.

5.David wrote many songs of praise to God.

6.These songs are located in the book of Psalms.7.In the New Testament there are many examples of those

    who delighted in Gods Word.

8.Mary was one of those who desired to sit at Jesus feetand receive every word that was spoken.

Gods Word is my DelightBook of Psalms, Luke 8:1, 10:38-42

Memory Verse:I will delight in Your principles and not forget Your word.

    Psalm 119:16

    The Book of Psalms

Many authors wrote the Book of Psalms. Some of them

included Moses, Asaph, and King David. All of these people loved

the Lord and they delighted in Gods Word. To delight is to havegreat joy and pleasure. As a believer in the Lord, you will have

great joy as you read Gods Word daily.

King David was one of these men who loved God. In Psalm 1:2,

David speaks of delighting in Gods law, which is His Word. David

desired to do everything that the Lord asked of him. He wrote

    about 70 of these Psalms.

Many of these Psalms were used as worship songs unto theLord. These Psalms are like hymns sung by the Jews. Today we

see how they are used to bring praise to God in Jewish synagogues

and even in our own Christian churches.

    Mary and Martha

As you continue to feed upon Gods Word you will delight at

what Gods Word says. Gods written Word will bring you a lot of

    pleasure and great joy.

In the New Testament we see many who loved Jesus. Theydesired to sit at His feet and listen to everything that He had to

say. They truly delighted in His Word.

Jesus began to travel throughout the land along with His

beloved disciples. Jesus desired to teach about the Kingdom of

God. He also performed many different miracles like calming a

storm, healing a demon-possessed man, and even feeding five

thousand people at one time. Everyone who experienced thesemiracles and received Jesus teachings were blessed.

As Jesus and His disciples journeyed towards Jerusalem, they

stopped at a small village. In this village lived Lazarus, Martha, and

Mary. Martha invited Jesus into their home. It was Marthas

desire to bring refreshment to Jesus. She began the task of

getting everything ready. There was much work to do.

From the very beginning Mary, Marthas sister, sat at the

feet of Jesus. She had much joy knowing that she was going to be

taught by Jesus. Mary delighted in His Words.

Martha continued to prepare things and saw that Mary

continued to sit at Jesus feet. She began to worry about the meal

that was being prepared and at the fact that her sister was not

helping her in preparing it.Martha commented to Jesus about her sisters behavior. She

said Lord, doesnt it seem unfair to You that my sister just sits

here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me. But

the Lord said to her, My dear Martha, you are so upset over all

    16

these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned

about. Mary has discovered itand I wont take it away from her.

It was not wrong of Martha to make all these preparations.

Jesus wanted her to know that Mary had chosen the better, which

was to listen to His Words. Jesus desired that Martha, too, wouldslow down and spend some time delighting in Gods Word as her

    sister was doing.

Mary is an example for us today. There are many good things

you can spend your time doing, but its more important to delight in

Gods Word. We need to spend more time in Gods Word, before

    being busy doing other things.

    Life Applications From Gods Word

You cannot delight in Gods Word until you first believe inJesus.

God wants you to daily delight in His Word. Psalm 119:16 Iwill delight in Your principles and not forget Your Word.

Gods Word brings a special kind of joy to your heart. Gods Word will guide you. Is Gods Word more important than anything that you might

    want to do?

Are you too busy watching T.V., playing with your toys, orfriends?

Develop a quiet time where you can spend time in Gods Word. As you read, listen to what God wants to say to you. What does Gods Word say? What does Gods Word mean? What is Gods Word saying to you? Obey His Word that it would bring delight to your life. Are you like Mary or like Martha? From this point on, allow Gods Word to be more important

    than other things.

Gods Word is Wisdom1 Kings 3:1-28; Luke 2:41-52

Memory Verse:For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and

    understanding. Proverbs 2:6

    Solomon Asks for Wisdom

Solomon made a pact with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and

married one of his daughters. He brought her to live in the City of

David until he could finish building his palace, the Temple of theLORD and the wall around the city. At that time the people of

Israel sacrificed their offerings at local altars, for a temple

honoring the name of the LORD had not yet been built. Solomon

loved the LORD and followed all the instructions of his father,

except that Solomon offered sacrifices and burned incense at the

local altars. The most important of these altars was at Gibeon, so

Solomon went there and sacrificed one thousand burnt offerings.

At night, in Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a

dream, and God said, What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to

you! Solomon replied, You were wonderfully kind to my father

because he was honest and true and faithful to You. And You have

continued this great kindness to him today by giving him a son to

succeed him. O LORD my God, now You have made me king, but Iam like a little child who doesnt know his way around. Here I am

among Your own chosen people, a nation so great they are too

numerous to count! Give me an understanding mind so that I can

govern Your people well and know the difference between right and

  • 8/13/2019 God Sword Teacher Study

    25/50

    24

wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great nation of

    Yours?

The Lord was pleased with Solomons reply and was glad that

he had asked for wisdom. So God replied, Because you have asked

for wisdom in governing My people and have not asked for a longlife or riches for yourself or the death of your enemies, I will give

you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding

mind such as no one else has ever had or ever will have! I will also

give you what you did not ask for which is riches and honor! No

other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of

your life and if you follow Me and obey My commands as your

father, David, did, I will give you a long life. Then Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream. He

returned to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark of the Lords

Covenant, where he sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings.

Then he invited all his officials to a great banquet.

Some time later, two women came to the king to have an

argument settled. Please, my lord, one of them began, this

woman and I live in the same house. I gave birth to a baby while

she was with me in the house. Three days later, she also had a

baby. We were alone; there were only two of us in the house. But

her baby died during the night when she rolled over on him. Then

she got up in the night and took my son from beside me while I was

asleep. She laid her dead child in my arms and took mine to sleep

beside her. And in the morning when I tried to nurse my son, hewas dead! But when I looked more closely in the morning light, I

saw that it wasnt my son at all. Then the other woman

interrupted, It certainly was your son, and the living child is mine.

No, the first woman said, the dead one is yours, and the living

one is mine. And so they argued back and forth before the king.

  • 8/13/2019 God Sword Teacher Study

    26/50

    25

Then the king said, Lets get the facts straight. Both of you

claim the living child is yours, and each says that the dead child

belongs to the other. All right, bring me a sword. So a sword was

brought to the king. Then he said, Cut the living child in two and

give half to each of these women! Then the woman who really wasthe mother of the living child, and who loved him very much, cried

out, Oh no, my lord! Give her the childplease do not kill him! But

    the other woman said, All right, he will be neither yours nor mine;

    divide him between us!

Then the king said, Do not kill him, but give the baby to the

woman who wants him to live, for she is his mother! Word of the

kings decision spread quickly throughout all Israel, and the peoplewere awed as they realized the great wisdom God had given

Solomon to render decisions with justice.

    Jesus goes to the Temple

Every year Jesus parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover

festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the

festival as usual. After the celebration was over, they startedhome to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem.

His parents didnt miss Him at first, because they assumed He

was with friends which were among the other travelers that came

with them. But when He didnt show up that evening, they started

to look for Him among their relatives and friends. When they

couldnt find Him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for Him

    there.

Three days later they finally discovered Him. He was in the

Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, discussing deep

questions with them. And all who heard Him were amazed at His

understanding and His answers. His parents didnt know what to

  • 8/13/2019 God Sword Teacher Study

    26

think. Son! His mother said to Him. Why have you done this to

us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for You

    everywhere.

But why did you need to search? Jesus asked. You should

have known that I would be in My Fathers house. But they didntunderstand what He meant.

Then He returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to

them; and His mother stored all these things in her heart. So

Jesus grew both in stature and in wisdom, and He was loved by God

and by all who knew Him.

Those in the temple were amazed at Jesus knowledge of the

scriptures. Jesus had clearly demonstrated that spending timewith God and in the scriptures had given Him, a boy of 12 years of

    age, much wisdom.

    Psalm 119:160

The Lord Revealed Himself at Mount Sinai

The Lord told Moses that He was going to come to him in a

thick cloud. He would allow the people to hear that He was speaking

to Moses.Moses was instructed to tell the people to purify themselves

for a visit from the Lord on the third day.

He told Moses that the people would be able to see Him come

down upon Mount Sinai. Moses instructed the people to observe

the boundaries that were to be set.

The Lord said, Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or

even touch its boundaries. Those who do will certainly die. Stayaway from the mountain until you hear one long blast from a rams

horn. Then gather at the foot of the mountain.

So Moses went down to the people. He purified them for

worship. He said, Get ready for in two days an important event will

take place. Keep yourselves from any intimate contact.

On the morning of the third day, there was a powerful

thunder and lighting storm. A thick cloud came down upon the

mountain. There was a long loud blast from a rams horn. The people

trembled they knew that the Lord was about to speak. Moses led

Moses spoke to God and as he did God thundered His reply for

everyone to hear. The Lord called Moses to climb up the mountain. The Lord later told Moses to warn the people again not cross

the boundaries that were set. They were not to see the Lord or

    they would die.

After this Moses went down and told them what the Lord had

said. God instructed the people, giving them Ten Commandments to

    follow.

    The Temptation of Jesus

Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit

to be tempted there by the Devil. For forty days and forty nights

He ate nothing and became very hungry. Then the Devil came and

said to Him, If you are the Son of God, change these stones into

loaves of bread. But Jesus told him, No! The Scriptures say,

People need more than bread for their life; they must feed onevery word of God.

Then the Devil took Him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of

the Temple, and said, If You are the Son of God, jump off! For

the Scriptures say, He orders His angels to protect you. And they

will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot

on a stone. Jesus responded, The Scriptures also say, Do not

    test the Lord your God.

Next the Devil took Him to the peak of a very high mountain

and showed Him the nations of the world and all their glory. I will

give it all to You, he said, if You will only kneel down and worship

me. Get out of here, Satan, Jesus told him. For the Scriptures

say, You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.

Then the Devil went away, and angels came and cared for

    Jesus.

    Life Applications from Gods Word

The Ten Commandments are given to you to instruct you onhow to live.

These instructions help you know what God requires of you. Temptation is not sin, but a strong desire to do something

    wrong.

You can use the strong Word of God to combat temptation. Jesus was tempted, know that you also shall be tempted. Satan will sometimes use the Word of God in a twisted

manner. God desires you to know His Word. Memorize Gods Word. You will not always have your Bible next

    to you.

Make sure you know and understand Gods Word. Use the Word of God to win over temptation just as Jesus did

    in the wilderness.

Gods Word will always win over temptation. Gods Word is called the Sword of the Spirit. All Your words are true; all Your just laws will stand forever.

Gods Word is My HopeIsaiah 6:1-5, John 13:36-14:6

    Revelation 1:9-11, 5:11-14, 21:9-27

Memory Verse:Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great

God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:13

Isaiah Sees a Vision of Heaven

In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. He was sitting

on a lofty throne, and the train of His robe filled the Temple.Hovering around Him were the worshippers of the Lord, mighty

seraphim, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their

faces, with two they covered their feet, and with the remaining

    two they flew.

Isaiah was amazed at all that he saw and heard. In a great

chorus he heard them sing, Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty!

The whole earth is filled with His glory! This glorious singingshook the temple to its foundations, and the entire sanctuary was

    filled with smoke.

Then I said, My destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man

and a member of a sinful people. Yet I have seen the King, the

    LORD Almighty!

Jesus spoke of His departureSimon Peter said, Lord, where are you going? And Jesus

replied, You cant go with Me now, but you will follow Me later.

But why cant I come now, Lord? he asked. I am ready to die for

You. Jesus answered, Die for Me? No, before the rooster crowstomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know

    Me.

Jesus, prepared a place for the disciples

Jesus said, Dont be troubled. You trust God, now trust in Me.

There are many rooms in my Fathers home, and I am going to

prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will

always be with Me where I am. And you know where I am going.

No, we dont know, Lord, Thomas said. We havent any idea

where You are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus told him,

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the

    Father except through Me.

John had a vision of Heaven

I am John, your brother. In Jesus we are partners in

suffering, in patient endurance, and will share His Kingdom. I was

exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and

speaking about Jesus. It was the Lords Day, and I was worshiping

    in the Spirit.

Suddenly, I heard a loud voice behind me, a voice that soundedlike a trumpet blast. It said, Write down what you see, and send it

    to the seven churches.

Then I looked again, and I heard the singing of thousands and

millions of angels around the throne and the living beings and the

elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: The Lamb is worthythe

Lamb who was killed. He is worthy to receive power and riches and

wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under

the earth and in the sea. They also sang: Blessing and honor andglory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the

    Lamb forever and ever.

And the four living beings said, Amen! And the twenty-four

elders fell down and worshiped God and the Lamb.

Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls

containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, Come with

me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. So he took mein spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city,

Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. It was filled with

the glory of God and sparkled like a precious gem, crystal clear like

jasper. Its walls were broad and high, with twelve gates guarded

by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel

were written on the gates. There were three gates on each side

east, north, south, and west. The wall of the city had twelve

foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the

twelve apostles of the Lamb. The angel who talked to me held in his

hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its

wall. When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it

was long. In fact, it was in the form of a cube, for its length and

width and height were each 1,400 miles. Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet

thick (the angel used a standard human measure). The wall was

made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. The

wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve

gems: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate,

the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the

seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth

chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. The

twelve gates were made of pearlseach gate from a single pearl!

And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. No temple could be seen in the city, for the Lord God

Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city had no need of

sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the

    Lamb is its light.

The nations of those who are saved will walk in its light, and

the rulers of the earth will come and bring their glory to it. Its

gates never close at the end of day because there is no night. Andall the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.

Nothing impure will be allowed to enter here, only those whose

names are written in the Lambs Book of Life.
