Workshops with the navigators
Exploring self-
portraiture
Exploring the gallery exhibitions…
Session Two – Exploring the idea of ‘self’ with poet Dean Atta…
Writing poems about
ourselves
Inspired by the Tim Burton poem…
Watch the animation on YouTube
We drew our own pictures of Vincent
inspired by the poem.
We took photos of ourselves in school uniform…
In poses which reflected our personality
…and took selfies which expressed more of our individuality.
We brought in objects which were precious to us and which told a story about each of us…
We made up dance moves which reflected our personalities…
Session Three – Working with Visual Artist Lucy
We explored the concept of self and personality.
We filmed and photographed children and adults in our school, inviting them to talk about or show us who they are…
We also took selfies of ourselves in different
poses.
Session Four – Working with our partner school Bethersden Primary…
We invited some children from Bethersden Primary School to join us on a visit to Turner Contemporary. We started off at Godinton by leading them in some of the activities we had
completed with Lucy and Dean and then lead them around the gallery.
We explored the ‘Self’ exhibition and enjoyed looking at the self portraits.
We enjoyed dressing up too!
Since then we have put together a montage of all the things we have investigated about self image. We hope that this will
inspire other people to consider who they are.
Have a look at the film we have made.
Final Presentation• Some of our group
visited Folkestone Quarterhouse to find out what other schools had done as their ‘Inspire’ project.
• We too part in some workshops, learnt origami and made pledges that we would help support the Arts in Kent.
Our film was also shown at the Turner Gallery
Hopefully the Inspire project will continue again next year so that some of you may have a chance
to join in too.
