PREFACE

The year is now 2006 which means that GoGaS can look

back over 60 years of tradition. Starting with initial repairs to

gas lanterns and gas appliances, we then went on over six

decades to become a popular developer and manufacturer in

the field of infrared technology with a wide sales network for

space heating and drying technology. Our current, successful

position on inland and international markets is thanks to our

creative team of employees, outstanding products and above all

our customers who we would like to thank most sincerely for their

GRÜNDUNG DER FIRMA GOGAS

1946 ist das Jahr, in dem der Grundstein

für das spätere Unternehmen GoGaS gelegt

wird. Heinz Goch, nach dem Ingenieurstu-

dium ganz dem „Gasfach“ verschrieben,

gründet in Hamburg eine „Fabrik für Gas-

geräte“ und wird zusammen mit neun Mit-

arbeitern in einem weiten Betätigungsfeld

aktiv, das ihm schnell die Auftragsbücher

füllt: Er repariert Gaslaternen. Doch den

gebürtigen Dortmunder zieht es zurück in

seine Heimatstadt, und so geht er mitsamt

seinem Unternehmen im Juni 1948 wieder

dorthin.

FORMATION OF GOGAS

1946 was the year in which the founding

stone was laid for the later company of

GoGaS. Heinz Goch, who dedicated him-

self entirely to the subject of gas following

his engineering studies, founded a „Factory

for Gas Appliances“ in Hamburg and to-

gether with nine employees he participated

in a wide field of work which quickly filled

the order books: He repaired gas lanterns.

However, born and bred in Dortmund, he

returned to his hometown, moving there

with his entire company in June 1948.

1948VON HAMBURG NACH DORTMUND

Im Gebäude der ehemaligen Zeche „Ad-

miral“ richtet Heinz Goch seine Firma ein

und beginnt bald mit der Herstellung von

Gaslaternen. Wenig später nimmt er die

Produktion von Gas-Infrarotstrahlern auf.

Damals stellt er schon früh die Weichen für

die Zukunft. Die Gaslaternenproduktion

läuft aus, und Heinz Goch, der das enorme

Potential von Gas-Infrarotstrahlern als

Wärmequelle früh erkannt hat, verlegt sich

auf die Produktion eben dieser Geräte. An-

fänglich werden noch Einzelanfertigungen

ausgeliefert. Durch unentwegtes Forschen

und Experimentieren gelingt es ihm das

Gas-Infrarot-System derart zu verbessern,

dass er bald komplette Heizungsanlagen

für Industrie- und Gewerbebetriebe projek-

tieren, bauen und ausliefern kann.

FROM HAMBURG TO DORTMUND

Heinz Goch established his company in the

building of the former „Admiral“ mine and

soon began manufacturing gas lanterns.

Shortly thereafter, he took up producing

gas-infrared burners. His work at that time

already pointed the way for the future.

Production of gas lanterns stopped and

Heinz Goch, who early on recognized the

enormous potential of gas-infrared burners

as a source of heat, shifted to the produc-

tion of these appliances. At the start, indi-

vidual models were supplied. Then, thanks

to ceaseless research and experimentation,

he succeeded in improving the gas-infrared

system so much that he was soon able

to coordinate projects for industrial and

commercial businesses as well as build and

supply entire heating plants for them.

Anwendungen in der Trocknungstechnik

werden immer gebräuchlicher. Daher

gründet GoGaS die eigenständige Abtei-

lung „Anlagenbau“, um unterschiedliche

Werkstoffe anzuwärmen, zu trocknen oder

– wie bei Beton – auszuhärten. Das so

gewonnene Know How bei der Wärme-

übertragung durch Strahlung bringen die

GoGaS-Fachleute zunächst in die Entwick-

lung von infrarotbeheizten Trocknungsan-

lagen für Textilien und Papier ein. Daraus

werden später komplette Durchlauftrock-

ner für Industriezweige wie die Stahl-,

Aluminium-, Lackier-, Kunststoff-, Keramik-

und Genussmittelindustrie. Hinzu kommen

Waggonauftauanlagen.

1958FORMATION OF „PROCESS ENGINEE-

RING“ Applications in drying technology

are becoming more and more common.

For this reason, GoGaS founded an inde-

pendent department for „Process enginee-

ring“ to heat or dry various materials or to

harden materials like concrete. The know-

how gained in this way from the process of

heat transfer by radiation, initially introdu-

ced the experts at GoGaS to the develop-

ment of infrared heated drying plants for

textiles and paper. This later developed into

complete continuous flow dryers for indus-

trial branches such as the steel, aluminium

lacquer, plastics, ceramics and food indus-

tries. This includes waggon thawing sys-

tems.

ERSTE SPORTSTÄTTENBEHEIZUNG

Nachdem man bisher vor allem die Ar-

beitswelt mit der Gas-Infrarot-Technologie

gewärmt hatte, beheizt GoGaS 1967 zum

ersten Mal eine Sportstätte. Aus diesen

anfänglichen Schritten heraus, hat sich

GoGaS bis heute zu einem der gefrag-

testen Anbieter von Heizungsanlagen für

Sportstätten entwickelt. Mittlerweile sind

über 20 moderne europäische Stadien mit

Gasinfrarotstrahlern von GoGaS ausge-

rüstet. Zu einer der zuletzt ausgestatteten

Multifunktionsarenen gehört die LTU-Arena

in Düsseldorf, in der allein 270 Gasinfra-

rotstrahler mit einer Leistung von 8.400 kW

installiert sind, die im Herbst und im Win-

ter immer ein behagliches Klima schaffen.

After heating the working world with

gas-infrared technology, in 1967 GoGaS

provided heat for a sportsground for the

first time. From these initial steps, GoGaS

has now become one of the most popular

suppliers of heating systems for sports-

grounds. In the meantime, over 20 modern

European stadiums have been equipped

with gas-infrared burners from GoGaS.

One of the last multi-function arenas we

equipped belongs to the LTU Arena in

Düsseldorf where 270 gas-infrared burners

were installed with an output of 8,400 kW

which continuously create a comfortable

environment in autumn and winter.

KONTINUIERLICHE RAUMTEMPE-

RATUR-REGELANLAGE 1978 erreichen

langfristige Forschungen bei GoGaS ihr

Ziel: GoGaS bringt die weltweit erste kon-

tinuierliche Raumtemperatur-Regelanlage

für Infrarotstrahlungsheizungen auf den

Markt. Bisher konnte man derartige Anla-

gen nur ein- oder ausschalten. Jetzt wird

es möglich, Räume und Hallen energetisch

sinnvoll, kontinuierlich zu beheizen und

so ein deutlich besseres Hallenklima zu

schaffen. Heute sind auch Großprojekte

mit dieser Regelungstechnik ausgestattet,

die mittlerweile über ein Bussystem vollau-

tomatisch und digital Heizungsanlagen mit

hohen Energieeinsparungen per Computer

steuert.

CONTINUOUS ROOM TEMPERATURE

CONTROL SYSTEM In 1978, long-term

research at GoGaS achieved its goal:

GoGaS launches the world‘s first continu-

ous room temperature regulation system for

infrared burner heating on the market. Up

to that point, these kinds of systems could

only be switched on or off. Now it became

possible to continuously heat spaces and

halls in a sensible energy-related way and

thereby create a considerably improved

environment. Today, large-scale projects are

also equipped with this control technology

which now includes a bus system which

controls heating systems by computer in a

fully automatic and digital way with high

energy savings.

EXPANSION IM AUSLAND 1981 ver-

stärkte GoGaS den Vertrieb der Gasin-

frarotstrahler im Exportbereich. Diese

Bemühungen wurden in den Folgejahren

durch Vertretungen in den Benelux-Staaten,

Italien, Österreich, Schweiz und Skandina-

viens forciert. Auf dem Markt für Hallen-

heizungen gehört GoGaS inzwischen

schon lange international zu den führen-

den Unternehmen. GoGaS hat nach der

Öffnung Osteuropas dort in den letzten

Jahren mehrere Repräsentanzen eröffnet,

um sich den Markt im Bereich der Hei-

zungstechnik zu erschließen.

1981EXPANSION ABROAD In 1981, GoGaS

increased sales and marketing for exporting

gas-infrared burners. Export work has been

enforced in subsequent years by represen-

tation in the Benelux States, Italy, Austria,

Switzerland and Scandinavia. GoGaS has

in the meantime become long established

internationally as a leading company on

the space heating market. Following the

entry of Eastern Europe into the market,

GoGaS opened several representations

over the last few years to open up the mar-

ket there in the field of heating technology.

ENTWICKLUNG DES RUSSISCHEN

MARKTES Aus der Zugehörigkeit zur

Ruhrgas ergaben sich für den Eintritt in

den russischen Markt enorme Vorteile. Mit

einem Ruhrgas-Gasprom-Joint -Venture

Unternehmen wurden die ersten großen

Exportgeschäfte in Millionenhöhe nach der

Perestroika getätigt. Die Entwicklung im

russischen Markt vollzog sich derart positiv,

dass im Januar 1997 das GoGaS – Toch-

terunternehmen in Raduzhnij gegründet

wurde. Durch kontinuierliche wachsende

Umsatzsteigerungen ist im Nachhinein

betrachtet, die Gründung mehr als sinnvoll.

1993DEVELOPMENT OF THE RUSSIAN

MARKET Due to affiliation with the energy

supplier Ruhrgas, there were enormous ad-

vantages for entry into the Russian market.

Using a Ruhrgas-Gasprom joint venture

company, the first large-scale export

business valued at millions was carried out

following the Perestroika. Developments

on the Russian market were so positive

that in January 1997 the GoGaS subsidiary

company was established in Raduzhnij. In

retrospect, the foundation of this subsidiary

makes more than good sense as illustrated

by the continuously increasing turnover.

NEUENTWICKLUNG KMI-STRAHLER

1998 – nach umfangreichen Forschungs-

und Entwicklungsarbeiten stellt GoGaS

eine neue Strahlergeneration vor: den

Hellstrahler Kombimax. Der moderne

Injektorbrenner arbeitet nahezu schadstoff-

frei. Konstruktiv wurde eine kontrollierte

Gas-Luft-Gemischvorwärmung erreicht.

Durch die physikalisch vorgegebene

Abgasführung werden die Brennkammer

und die Reflektoren erwärmt, so dass sich

zusätzlich eine Kombistrahlung entwickelt.

Durch diese Maßnahmen wird der Wir-

kungsgrad des Strahlers deutlich gestei-

gert. Das macht den Kombimax zu einem

„Wirtschaft(lichkeit)swunder“ mit höchst-

möglichem Wirkungsgrad, nach dem Stand

der heutigen Technik.

1998

1998NEW DEVELOPMENT OF KMI BURNERS

In 1998 - following extensive research and

development work, GoGaS presented a

new generation of burners: the Kombimax

bright radiator. The modern injector burner

works virtually pollutant-free. Controlled

pre-heating of the gas-air mixture was

achieved through the intelligent design.

Due to the physically dictated waste gas

conduction, the combustion chambers

and reflectors are heated whereby combi-

nation radiation develops as well. Due to

these measures, the degree of efficiency of

the burner is increased considerably. This

makes the Kombimax an „economic(-al)

miracle“ with the highest degree of effi-

ciency, according to the status of current

technology.

GOGAS BLEIBT KONSEQUENT IN-

NOVATIV Heute ist GoGaS mehr denn

je aktiv in der Forschung und Entwick-

lung. Besonders im Bereich Infrarot. Ein

eindrucksvoller Beleg dafür ist der kurz-

wellige, mit Gas betriebene Porenstrahler

RADIMAX, den GoGaS in Zusammenarbeit

mit der Universität Erlangen entwickelt

hat. Diese Weltneuheit basiert auf einem

vollkommen neuen Konzept für Gas-Infra-

rot-Strahler. Die Verbrennung des Gases

erfolgt dabei nicht mehr wie bei bekannten

Systemen an der Strahleroberfläche,

sondern im Kern des Strahlers. Mit diesem

Strahler gelingt es GoGaS, nicht nur in

der Papierindustrie Marktanteile hinzu zu

gewinnen.

2005-2006GOGAS REMAINS CONSISTENTLY

INNOVATIVE Nowadays, GoGaS is still

active in research and development more

than ever. This applies in particular to the

field of infrared technology. Impressive

proof of this is the RADIMAX, a short wave

porous burner operated by gas, which

GoGaS developed in collaboration with the

University of Erlangen. This global innova-

tion is based on an entirely new concept

for gas-infrared burners. The gas is no

longer burnt on the burner surface like

conventional systems but in the core of

the burner. This burner meant that GoGaS

succeeded in gaining market shares in the

paper industry, for example.

GOGAS IST EIN UNABHÄNGIGES

UNTERNEHMEN Aber nicht nur tech-

nisch entwickelt sich GoGaS kontinuierlich

weiter. Auch die Verkaufs- und Serviceakti-

vitäten werden immer weiter ausgedehnt:

So erschließt GoGaS den nordameri-

kanischen Markt und richtet auch eine

Vertretung in Süd-Korea ein. GoGaS ist

mittlerweile mit der Dortmunder Zentrale

und neun Verkaufsbüros im Inland präsent

und unterhält Vertretungen in 21 Ländern.

2006 kaufen die Gesellschafter eine 1983

von der zur Ruhrgas-Gruppe gehörenden

LOI Thermprozess erworbene Beteiligung

zurück. Damit ist GoGaS wieder ein unab-

hängiges Unternehmen.

However, it is not just in technical things

that GoGaS continues developments. Sales

and service activities are expanded more

and more: In this vein, GoGaS opens up

the North American market and establishes

representation in South Korea. GoGaS now

has a visible presence with a central office

in Dortmund and nine sales offices at home

and representations in 21 countries abroad.

In 2006, the associates re-purchased shares

from the LOI Thermprocess belonging to

the Ruhrgas Consortium which had been

purchased in 1983. This meant that GoGaS

once again became an independent com-

pany.

AUSBLICK

GoGaS konnte in den letzten Jahren im Geschäftsbereich

Heizungen trotz eines rückläufigen Marktes ein konstantes

Wachstum ausweisen. Darauf basierend erwarten wir für die

Zukunft weitere, überproportionale Steigerungsraten bei Umsatz

und Gewinn. Der Geschäftsbereich Anlagenbau hat sich nach

seiner Restrukturierung und einer daraus resultierenden Stagna-

tionsphase erfreulich schnell erholt und befindet sich auf einem

steil ansteigenden Wachstumskurs. Als Folge davon werden

wir unseren Mitarbeiterstamm bei gleichbleibend erfreulichem

Geschäftsverlauf mittelfristig ausbauen. Im Auslandsgeschäft

war GoGaS bisher erfolgreich, es sind aber noch Potentiale

vorhanden. Daher werden wir unsere internationalen

Marketingaktivitäten in Zukunft intensiv erweitern.

depressed market. Based on this, we expect further,

above-average increase rates in turnover and profits

for the future. Following a period of restructuring and

a resultant phase of stagnation, the business area of

plant engineering has thankfully recovered quickly and

is now on a fast track course of growth. As a consequence

of this, we will be expanding our core staff of employees

in the medium term if business remains on this positive

course. Up to now, business abroad has been successful

for GoGaS but there is still potential to be exploited. This is

why we will be intensively expanding our international

marketing activities in future.
