Various Water Restrictions

Most regions have their own water restrictions that become stricter depending on severity, they may include:

• Limited to restricted vehicle washing• Alternate days for lawn watering – can be forbidden at higher stages• Swimming pools may not be able to be filled or topped off• Hosing hard surfaces can be banned

Household Conservation Efforts

• 79% of households took at least one step towards saving water inside or outside the home in the past 12 months

• 54% took steps to save water in the garden (down from 62% in 2010)• 42% used mulch to save water in their gardens• 2.3 households used a rainwater tank as a source of water in 2013• South Australia has the highest percentage of rainwater tank users at

Territory Conservation Efforts

South Australia Water contracted UGL to work on a water treatment plant for the delivery of higher quality filtered drinking water throughout the Murrylands and Riverland regions.

What They Needed:• 9 water treatment plants• 6 pipelines to deliver water to Adelaide & Barossa Valley

The Work Involved

UGL Limited needed to address the following in order to get the treatment plants operational:

• Demolition• Excavation works• Earth works• Pipeline laying• Structure construction• Erection of security fences, sheds

& transportable buildings

Major Features

One of the new water treatment plants at Kanmantoo included:

• An elevated raw water tank with a 17k liter capacity

• Treated water tank with 2 million liter capacity

• Sophisticated filtration system• Chemical storage tanks, drying

lagoons & office

• 17 communities in South Australia are receiving clean, filter water from the Murray River

• Improves available fresh water resources• 11.5 mega liters per day capacity• Raw water is filtered with Ultra Filtration membrane technology
