I pray that we can all reflect on what the birth of this child means to each of us. The Christ Child is born into our lives. We are busy with many things during this season — celebrations, travel, and shopping — and keeping Christ at the center can seem difficult. Who is Jesus to each of us? No matter where you are on this journey, take time to deepen your understanding behind what calls for such celebration.

The clergy and staff of Prince of Peace continue to keep each of you in prayer. If you are looking for a church home, we’d love to have you as part of our parish family. If we know anything about the story of the birth of Jesus, it is that His earthly parents struggled to find a place that would suffice to receive the child who would change the world. This is, in many ways, like our own personal journey of faith. Life often takes us down a winding road before we find our true home. Life’s journey can be stressful; it can present a lot of unknowns and is filled with questions we’re seeking answers to. We can imagine that this is likely no different than what went through the minds of Mary and, eventually, Joseph when God sent them on the very intentional journey of bringing Jesus into the world.

As Nikki and Robert Bowen welcomed their third child, they decided that Nikki would stay home to focus on caring for their family. Although they met this decision with uncer-tainty, it was prayer and confidence in God that led them to where they are today.

When the time came for them to relocate, Nikki and Robert had no idea they were not just moving to a new town but that God was doing something out of this world for their entire family. “Something kept calling us back to this area every time we looked at houses as we were planning this move,’’ said Nikki. Eventually, the Bowens found a house in Flowery Branch and began making it a home for their growing family, putting down roots, and meeting those around them.

Robert described, “I was just at this point in my life where I was seeking truth. I had no bias, but it can also feel overwhelming, es-pecially as a family man, when you’re trying to do the right thing.” It was no coincidence that God planted Nikki and Robert where they moved. Jason and Gloria, their neigh-bors, became great friends. “It was just an innocent, genuine invitation by our friends we had in the neighborhood. They were plugged into a church that they really en-joyed and wanted to share that experience with us. They invited us to this thing called Alpha.” A life filled with searching, both in-dividually and as a couple, would ultimately bring Robert and Nikki to Prince of Peace through an invitation from their neighbors.

“We had been friends for a while with our neighbors, and Gloria was so good to us, so by the time they invited us to come and join them at Alpha, we knew it was with good intentions,” Nikki explained. “Robert and I decided to make the commitment, and it was so worth it. Now, with this group from Alpha, whom we didn’t know at the first session, we’ve become like family. We’re in Connect groups (small groups) with them and are sharing life together. I love that. I really needed that. I really have felt true friendship.” Nikki reminisced about their journey moving to Flowery Branch and how it was something they never had on their radar.

Meet the Bowens!

God created each of us for community, and by design, we are not meant to pass through life alone. “God desires us to be in community, to be plugged into something helping you to grow alongside other people … sharing life together with those who share the same values. There is nothing you can replace genuine friendship with; that is centered around Christ. There is just nothing better than that,” Robert explai-ned about their experience.

The Bowens are involved in various faith studies offered through Equip and even include their family, bringing their kids to Equip Families events as they try to share this expe-rience with their children. “Everyone fits into something; it’s just a matter of finding where … because of the relationships and the people we meet and the experiences we’ve had, it’s helped us on this journey, and the conduit has been this community,” said Robert.

The mission at Prince of Peace is to be a space where all of us can have a transformative encounter with Christ in a way that sets us on a new path in life and encourages discipleship.

We’re here to support all people, no matter where they are on their journey to the next step that God is calling them to. Whether this is their first step or their next step, it’s all about journeying together to uncover the invitation that God constantly gives us to go deeper.

After several years of searching, Nikki and Robert are currently in the process of becoming fully initiated into the church and are passing on the gift of faith to their children. As they come to the end of their searching and begin their new lives in Christ, Nikki offers us the following advice when it comes to being open to God’s plan: “Just be open minded and listen. There is nothing wrong with having a dis-cussion or allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you. I myself am not a good listener — I had walls up. Every day, I’d leave my neighborhood and drive by this place, and I always felt this drawing. Our experience has led to so much more than I ever thought was possible in a faith community. We feel loved and cared for here. It has had a tremendous impact on our life.”

Robert agreed, adding, “No matter where you are in your relationship with Jesus, there is something here that is just really valuable. It is very easy, in a lot of ways, to follow the invitation that is here — these different avenues where you can really live out your faith, growing in knowledge and growing in community.”

Jason y Gloria, sus vecinos se hicieron sus amigos ...“Fue solo una invitación inocente y genuina de nuestros amigos en el vecin-dario. Ellos habían sido conectados a una iglesia que realmente disfrutaban y querían compartir esa experiencia con nosotros. Nos invitaron a esta cosa llamada Alpha.” Una vida llena de búsquedas, tanto individual-mente como en pareja, finalmente llevaría a Robert y a Nikki a Prince of Peace a través de la invitación de sus vecinos.

Realmente lo nece-sitaba. Realmente he sentido una verdadera amistad ”. Nikki relata su caminar hacia algo que nunca esperaban cuando se mudaron a Flowery Branch.

Robert estuvo de acuerdo y agregó:” No importa dónde te encuentres en tu relación con Jesús, en este lugar hay algo realmente valioso. Es muy fácil, de muchas maneras, aceptar esta invitación, hay muchas formas diferentes en las que puedes vivir realmente tu fe, conocer más y crecer en comunidad ”.

What if you had the opportunity to experience something life changing? That’s exactly what Kyle and Tracie experienced as guests at a recent Alpha course.

Kyle and Tracie, along with their children, found themselves coming to Prince of Peace on Tuesday nights to participate in Alpha. Afterward, Kyle summed up the experience: “So, anyone who really knows me knows that I was never one for religion. But after a few life-changing moments in my life and a deepening heartache I was enduring, let’s just say I had an urge to tell Tracie everything about my true depression and pain — and also an urge I felt that we needed to go to church! So now, after seven months of weekly Mass, Alpha classes, and Alpha Day, I can tell you that I found the biggest piece of my life I was missing. The Alpha course has really opened my eyes and heart. This course is amazing and super welcoming, even to me — can you believe that? No, but seriously, this is a true gift for anyone and everyone.”

So, what exactly is Alpha? It’s really simple: it’s a welcoming environment where a meal is served, a dynamic presenta-tion on life’s biggest questions is given, and all guests have a chance to say how they view things. It’s an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss these important questions together.
