"HC 95" FIRST PREFIX $5 NOTESOn 24th April 1995, the Reserve Bank of Australia released a new brightly col-oured version of the five dollar polymer banknote, designed to make it easier to differentiate it from the similarly coloured $10 note. In an effort to assist in the sorting of large bundles of notes, orientation bands were printed at the top and bottom on both sides. The original orientation bands incorporated wide diagonal lines within each vertical column. When a number of printing plates were damaged, new plates were used which incorporated artwork from an earlier proof design of the note. On notes printed from these new plates, the diagonal lines are much finer. The two types are referred to as wide and narrow orientation bands respectively.We are offering the Fraser/Evans "HC95" first serial prefix $5 with narrow orientation bands in Crisp Flat Uncirculated (C.F.U) condition, which were put away nearly 20 years ago. These very scarce notes, we have seen elsewhere priced (S.E.P) at $1625.00 each and they currently catalogue at $1850.00 each.

BRITISH £5 & £10 BANKNOTES

In the late 19th and early 20th century local banks proliferated in England, unfortunately not all survived and some were taken over by bigger banks.

The Stamford, Spalding and Boston Banking Company Limited was a joint-stock bank in 1880. It issued notes until 1907 and in 1911 became part of the Barclays Bank.

Printed by the London firm Perkins, Bacon and Company Limited, the five pounds are dated 1895-1897 and the ten pounds are dated 1905-1906 and all feature a unique serial number. The signature panel is cut out to show that the note was honoured by Barclays. (S.E.P @ $100.00 for the £10)
