President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux

All is quiet in Golden Acres from the last report from the

office. The park is planning a fourth of July cookout. We still have

79 residences living in Golden Acres year around. That a slight

increase over past years.

The fencing repairs on fourth street fence have not been

completed as of this writing. I hope to have it completed in the near

future. The fence repairs are due to tree removals and to box in other

trees so the fence will be continuous.

The water bill from May is still improving over the same time frame as last year. We

have had just one water leak in the last couple of months. Robert keeps an eye out for water leaks

and tries to make sure they are fixed as soon as possible.

We still have only one unit left for sale as of this writing. There are a couple of units that

are in probate but we don’t know at this time what their status will be after the probate is

completed. Two new manufactured homes are going in over the summer. It is good to see new

units replacing some of the old ones that are in bad shape.

We contacted an engineer in the state about our flooding issue on Third Avenue. He

informed us that we have to hire an engineer first before he would look at our problem with the

flooding. So everything is on hold till the board can decide our next move.

The board hopes everyone made it home safe.

From the Editor’s Desk By Sue Bailey [email protected]

Happy Canada Day on July 1st to all our Canadian

Counterparts! Happy Independence Day on July 4th to all our USA

residents! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Things are

quiet here at Golden Acres, but we're looking forward to our annual

Summer Picnic to be held at the Clubhouse on July 1st, after all

July is National Picnic Month!

Fraser Muir provided a very interesting article on the 70th

Anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. Hats off to Fraser!

There is also an article from Pinellas County regarding the

Page 4: Golden Acres R. O. Association, Inc. 2015-2016 · future. The fence repairs are due to tree removals and to box in other trees so the fence will be continuous. The water bill from

household / electronics / chemicals mobile collection that will be held monthly. We will no

longer have to search for a drop-off location.

I am very impressed and excited about all of the Summer Activities that are scheduled for

the summer months. Read all about them in this issue of the Newsletter!

The month of July is named to honor Julius Caesar during the Julian Calendar reform. It

is considered the warmest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. July's birth flowers are

the Larkspur or the Water Lily. The birthstone is ruby which symbolizes contentment.

Have a joyous and plentiful summer wherever your journey takes you.

Until next time,

May God bless and keep you well and safe…

Notes from the Office By Jo Ellen Bryant

Summer Time is here at Golden Acres. It’s mildly hot

at 89 degrees before noon (but just wait until August when we

can say “bloody hot”), and almost every afternoon we have

those heavy showers which keep our trees and shrubs looking

green. It plays havoc on driving, but usually one can wait it out.

Things have been going very smoothly, it’s actually a

bit scary. It’s June and we’ve only had one minor water leak,

vendors are actually checking in at the office, and visitors too.

The pool really needs some company and is extremely quiet.

Perhaps late evening there is some activity. Don’t forget, it’s a

great way to cool off and get some exercise!

Sue and I are working on the Directory to be distributed

when you return to the park in the fall and early 2016.

Our mowing service is here promptly on Wednesdays, and I’ve not heard of a single

complaint, in fact only compliments. They are aware, courteous, and are doing a great job.

Our summertime coffee hour has a nice following and have a picnic planned for July 1st.

Signup is requested in the clubhouse.

This is an organizational period at the office, updating forms, cleaning out old files, and

still meeting folks who want to see the park or rent. If you are not able to be here in the winter

do consider renting as an option. There is a form on our web site for you and your renter to sign.

Page 5: Golden Acres R. O. Association, Inc. 2015-2016 · future. The fence repairs are due to tree removals and to box in other trees so the fence will be continuous. The water bill from

5

You then mail it to the office. We have a list of folks who would love to be here in the winter

just waiting for a place.

Our credit check for Canadians has changed. Our current Tenant Check Company now

does Canadian Credit checks, so any new buyers will fill out our credit form just as those in the

US do.

We would like to recognize and thank Ron Porter (Lot 80) for keeping such an updated

and well organized inventory list for the workshop. This is done every year so that we can keep

track of all the items in the shop and also determine what needs replacement or repair. Currently

there are several missing items, and if you should know of their whereabouts or have borrowed

these items, kindly return them to the workshop. Missing items: file, 2ft level, pry bar, step

stool.

Did you all know that there is a fabulous Armed Forces Museum in Largo? It is an

amazing place with exhibits from all the Military Services displayed with all the wars

represented. You must visit it upon your return. Visit the web site:

http://armedforcesmuseum.com/ The Museum is an enormous warehouse in an unsuspecting

location off Ulmerton Road. It’s so big that during the summer they have a fun ride once a month

through the facility for kids and adults. Check out the web site for their schedule. It’s very well

organized and a treat to visit.

Enjoy your summer, stay well, appreciate the company of your families and friends, and

be safe on your vacations. We do miss those of you who are away, truly.

Celebrating 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands By Fraser Muir

I was one of the 60 Canadian Veterans of WW 2 that attended the 70th Anniversary of the

Liberation of the Netherlands. We were flown over on a Royal Canadian Air Force Air Bus that

requires anyone over 80 years old to have a Care Giver, so Joan came as mine.

Our daughter, Sheona, made the trip

as well. She recently purchased Unit

#17 in Golden Acres.

We were treated like Royalty as the Dutch have never forgotten us Canadians who liberated

them. We were there for 10 Days, took part in two parades, several Ceremonies, four Cemeteries,

and two Concentration Camps.

Hello GA Friends By Roz Frabotta

Can it already be the end of May? Seems like just

yesterday it was mid April. It doesn't seem possible

that it's been six weeks since leaving "senior summer

camp" and reentry into the real world!

It's been a busy six weeks at that! Of course, baseball

season has been in full swing and there's nothing like

taking in a ball game. In spite of the fact that my Tribe

has gotten off to a horrible start! Had a great time at

my first home game even though we lost. Hopefully,

we'll

have better outcomes on my future games.
