The Story of Jesus

Page 2: Golden Bells #411 - The Story of Jesus

Jesus is AliveMary Magdalene loved Jesus. She had followed Him and believed everything He said. He was the greatest man she had ever known.

He forgave her sins and taught her about God. But now…

Jesus was dead.

It was a sad sad day.Jesus was dead.

Today, Mary had watched wicked people yell at Jesus and spit on Him. She watched soldiers hurt Him by hammering big iron nails

into His hands and feet. The ground under her feet had shook and complete darkness had covered the earth when Jesus hung on the

cross.

Jesus was dead.

I can’t explain to you how sad Mary was! She cried when they took the body of Jesus down from the cross and wrapped it in a cloth. Her heart hurt inside her when they put Him in a big rock grave called a tomb. Then they rolled a huge, heavy stone across the

grave.

Jesus was dead.

Mary stayed at the tomb for a long time. She didn’t want to go any-where else. Mary just wanted to be with Jesus. Finally, it got dark and she had to go home. She lay in bed but she could not sleep…

Jesus was dead.

Very early in the morning, when it was just getting light, Mary left her house to go back to the tomb of Jesus. Her friend whose name was also Mary came with her. They took with them oil and spices for Jesus’ body. On the way, Mary remembered the huge stone

Page 3: Golden Bells #411 - The Story of Jesus

they had put over the tomb. ‘How will we get in?’ she wondered. As they arrived, they saw something very strange… the stone was

rolled away and the tomb was open! Something was wrong! As they came a little closer they looked inside the tomb… they saw

the cloth… but the body of Jesus was gone!

Suddenly, the ground started to shake and an Angel from heaven appeared. His face shone as bright as lightening and His clothes were whiter than snow. The Angel spoke, ‘Do not be frightened. I know you are looking for Jesus. He is not here. He is risen!’ Both

Mary’s were amazed. They trembled with fear and excitement. This was no lie! This was no trick!

Jesus was alive!

d but now alive again!

Mary Magdalene left the tomb and hurried to tell her friends who also loved Jesus the good news. It wasn’t long before they all saw

Jesus again.

Jesus was alive!

After a few weeks, Jesus left earth and went back to His Father in heaven. Mary and all the others who loved Him watched Him go up

into the sky and out of sight.

Jesus is alive in heaven today

Page 4: Golden Bells #411 - The Story of Jesus

A baby was born in Bethlehem. His mother Mary called Him Jesus.

Jesus grew up as a carpenter. At 30, Jesus began preaching, teaching and doing great miracles. Every-thing He did and said was good. His life was perfect.

Three days after Jesus was buried, He rose again from the dead. He was seen alive by hun-dreds of people before He left earth and went back to heaven.

While a few people followed Jesus, most people hated Him for no rea-son. He was rejected and nailed to a cross between 2 robbers. Jesus died when He was only 33

Jesus Christ the Son of God had become a real human be-ing. God was visiting earth like

never before.

He was different to every other person because He was a righteous man without sin. His actions and words teach us who God is and what God is like.

It is impossible for a human being to be dead and then to become alive again. Jesus is not just a human being; He is the eternal Son of

God who did the great work of salvation. God raised Jesus from the dead showing us

that He was pleased with Jesus and everything He had done on earth.

The Lord Jesus came to earth for this very reason. On the cross,

Jesus took the full punishment for the sins of the world. He died to

save us all.

Claire’s ColumnSo, you know the story of Jesus. But do you

Acts 4:12

Study Wheel

Jesus Christ is the one and only Saviour.

He is able to save sinners because of

what He has done, what He is doing

and what He will do.

Get your Bible and travel around the wheel in the direction of the arrows. Look up each verse as you come to it. There are many more verses about each statement - maybe you can think of some?

Start

Page 10: Golden Bells #411 - The Story of Jesus

It was then that God opened our eyes to see who Jesus really was. We were able to put our faith and trust in Him and He saved us. He is Jesus Christ God’s son. The only Saviour of sinners.

There is salvation in none other. There is no other name under heaven, given amongst men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Jesus is both God and man. He always was God, but He became a man. Because Jesus is God, He knows all about God and He came to tell us and show us what God is really like. Because He is a man, He knows you, He knows what you’re like, and most impor-tantly He can come to you and bring you back to God.

“Thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God.”

Peter said this when he was living with the Lord Jesus. He knew Him well. He knew it was true. He knew who Jesus was because God had shown it to Him. This is exactly what has happened to the Christian. God has shown us who Jesus really is.

We SawWe Felt

We Knew

that we were sinners and deserved Gods judgement.

We Discovered

guilty, convicted and troubled.

we had to do something to get rid of our sin and guilt.that although we knew our problem, we could do nothing to solve it.

We Called to God for mercy to help us.

This is what took place when we got saved:

Matthew 16:16

Page 11: Golden Bells #411 - The Story of Jesus

This is His name. LORD JESUS CHRIST. It tells us who He really is. There is no other name for salvation. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom 10:13).

When Peter preached after Jesus had gone back to heaven (Acts 2:36) he told the people that:

“God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have cruci-fied, both Lord and Christ.”

He is “Lord” He is “Christ”“Lord” means that He is God. One to be worshipped.

Christ means that He is the Messiah. He is the one ap-pointed by God to bring us His word, to bring us to God, to be a sacrifice for our sins and to rule over all.

He is God over all blessed forever! (Rom 9:5)

Who is Jesus?(a) A man of History(b) A prophet(c) A great teacher(d) A man of legend(e) Jesus Christ the son of the living God
