Armed Services YMCA

Operation Kid Comfort Comfort. Create. Unite. Operation Kid Comfort creates comfort quilts and pillows for children of deployed service men and women, and offers an opportunity for America to unite in support of military families.

Operation Kid Comfort is an ongoing project that provides comfort to children whose parents are deployed. With dedicated local quilters making pillows and quilts, children around the island are able to feel the comfort that the Armed Services YMCA is willing to provide.

Fabric and monetary donations are greatly appreciated. Without the help from our donors these quilts and pillows would not be possible.

If you would like a quilt or pillow for your child or even a child that you know, please email Armed Services YMCA at [email protected] or call at 808.473.3398. More information regarding steps in receiving quilts and pillows will be given upon request.

Here are some ways that you can help Operation Kid Comfort! Become a volunteer- Cut fabric, sew quilts, (don’t worry, we’ll show you how to do it) seek donations, recruit friends and family to volunteer, or prepare and print photos. Help spread the word! In fact, you can start by taking two of these flyers- keep one and post the other at work, church, the grocery store,

your gym, or any other high-traffic location.

Become a sponsor- A gift of $25 will pay for one quilt, $12 will cover the cost of photo fabric squares for one quilt, $65 buys two color ink cartridges needed to print the photos. What the heck- give $100 bucks just for the joy of knowing that four keiki will receive quilts because you cared. Send your tax de-

ductible donations to

Armed Services YMCA, 1057 North Road, Honolulu, Hawaii 96818. Make checks payable to ASYMCA.

Please put ‘quilt’ on the check memo line.

Become a spokesperson- Get to know the program and tell the world about it. Talk about it when you hang out with friends at lunch. Put up a flyer at your workplace. Ask your neighbor if she still sews; tell her about Operation Kid Comfort and then ask if she’ll donate some fabric or sew some quilts. Tell

your media pals about Operation Kid Comfort and ask them to call Kathy or John for more information.

Participate in a presentation ceremony- Meet the families, take photos, enjoy some cookies and juice. Chat with young moms who are holding down the fort while dad is gone. Watch the children care-

fully as they open the quilt packages . . . . . oh yeah, be sure to have some Kleenex handy.
