Playing of “Last Post” (Trumpet) Two minutes of silence Playing of “Rouse” (Trumpet)

One: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

All: We will remember them.

Laying of Memorial Wreath Acknowledging the Land One: The land on which this building sits is land that has

been walked on, hunted on, and lived on for thousands of years. It is the traditional un-ceded land of the Katzie and Kwantlen people, and it is with humility and respect that we give thanks that we are here, in the space where we are in touch with Creator who made it and who made us. May our worship honour the relationships that are celebrated and invited here.

All: May we always remember the story of this land,

the people who live here, and the call to live with respect and thanksgiving.

Gathering and Lighting the Christ Candle Spoken together as the Christ candle is lit:

One: Jesus is the light of the world All: Jesus calls us to be lights in this world One: Through the stories of Jesus we learn that he

challenged leaders All: To be compassionate and just in their decision

making One: We learn that he offered hope All: To those who were bullied, downtrodden, and left

out One: And we learn that he offered peace All: To those who needed comfort and healing and

wholeness One: This is the light of the world All: And, this too is the lights we are called to be.

Amen. Centering: MV 157 “I Am A Child Of God”

* HYMN MV 1 “Let Us Build A House”

Words: Marty Haugen Copyright 1994 GIA Publications

1. Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,

a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.

Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace;

here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this

place. 2. Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are

strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign

anew.

5

Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;

here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this

place. 3. Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and

wheat; a banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice

meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time

and space; as we share in Christ the feast that frees us: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this

place. 4. Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the

wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word

they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s

face; let us bring an end to fear and danger: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this

place. 5. Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and

visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words

within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and

songs of grace; let this house proclaim from floor to rafter:

6

All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Bringing the Word into our Midst MV 196 “We Will Take What You Offer”

Words: John L. Bell 1998 Words © 1998 WGRG, Iona Community, Scotland Used by permission under One License A723301

We will take what you offer,

we will live by your word; we will love one another and be led by you, Lord Scripture

Psalm 127 God’s Blessings in the Home A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. 1 Unless the Lord builds the house,

those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. 2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved.

3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons of one’s youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Mark 12: 38-44 Jesus Denounces the Scribes 38 As he taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! 40 They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” The Widow’s Offering 41 He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

One: For the Word of God in Scripture, for the Word of God among us, for the Word of God within us: All: Thanks be to God. Reflection on the Word: A Time for Silent Reflection Musical Offering *Hymn VU 682 “O Day of Peace”

1 O day of peace that dimly shines through all our hopes and prayers and dreams, guide us to justice, truth, and love, delivered from our selfish schemes. May swords of hate fall from our hands, our hearts from envy find release, till by God’s grace our warring world shall see Christ’s promised reign of peace. 2 Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, nor shall the fierce devour the small; as beasts and cattle calmly graze, a little child shall lead them all. Then enemies shall learn to love,

9

all creatures find their true accord; the hope of peace shall be fulfilled, for all the earth shall know the Lord. Celebrating God's Gifts – Offering *Offering Song MV 185 (v 1 & 2) “Ev’ry Day is a Day of Thanksgiving”

Words Copyright © Leonard Burks Used by permission under OneLicense A723301

Ev’ry day is a day of thanksgiving. God, you’ve been so good to me.

Ev’ry day you’re blessing me. Ev’ry day is a day of thanksgiving. I will glorify you, O my God, today! Repeat You keep blessing me, blessing me, blessing me. You opened the door that I might see, you’re blessing me.

And you keep blessing me, blessing me, blessing me.

I will glorify you, O my God today!

Prayer (all): Holy One, receive all these gifts and use them to fuel paths of love and justice and peace and hope in this world. Remind us that our work doesn’t end with the

10

giving of gifts. Give us the courage to be your hands in the work of bringing your love and peace to all corners of our community and into this world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer (sung) Everpresent God hallowed be your name, your kindom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive, as we forgive our debtors, save us from our trials and deliver us from evil for the kindom, and the power and the glory are yours, now and for evermore. Now and forever. Amen

God Sends us Out to Love and Serve *Hymn VU 691 “Though Ancient Walls”

1 Though ancient walls may still stand proud

11

and racial strife be fact, though boundaries may be lines of hate, proclaim God’s saving act! Refrain: Walls that divide are broken down; Christ is our unity! Chains that enslave are thrown aside; Christ is our liberty! 2 When vested power stands firm entrenched and breaks another’s back, when waste and want live side by side, it’s Gospel that we lack. R 3 The truth we seek in varied scheme, the life that we pursue, unites us in a common quest for self and world made new. R 4 The church divided seeks that grace, that newness we proclaim; a unity of serving love that lives praise to God’s name! R 5 This broken world seeks lasting health and vital unity. God’s people by God’s Word renewed, cast off all slavery! R *Commissioning & Benediction
